    Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread

    What do facts hurt?

In 2009 Matt Barkley was the #1 recruit for a long time then fell. Last year Seantrel Henderson was the #1 recruit until the final rankings when Ronald Powell passed him. Right now Rivals and ESPN put way too much emphasis on All Star weeks and combines. So if Clowney has a bad All Star week and someone else blows up they could easily pass him. Based on the last two cycles it seems likely #1 could change come NSD. Trust me I love the current rankings as it seems likely FSU will get the #2 and #3 player in the country, but it is very subject to change.

I gotta stop reading posts about Clowney. The more I read, the more it worries me he's a Carolina lock.

Not a new recruit, but UT track star Evander Wells will be joining the football team for this fall. Kid runs a 10.01 100m and 6.61 60m, blazing speed, but dont know how well he will turn out as a football player. Should be used on special teams, but played DB in HS, so at least he knows what a football looks like.

That sounds like a fun experiment.

Well when your team has a dismal outlook as we do this year, you got nothing to lose.

And it frees up a scholarship for the Track team. Double bonus if your Track team is any good.

Austin Sefarian-Jenkins is announcing on August 16th. Most are reporting that it's between Texas and Washington, but Florida might also be in the mix.

I'm nervous as hell. ASJ is a BIG recruit that I think Sark absolutely needs to get. It would do wonders for this recruiting class. But ASJ seems enamored with Texas, and when he gets that offer on his visit, I have a hard time seeing him saying no.

He'll be in Austin this weekend with his mom, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he leaves committed.

This is him with a handful of other UT commits at the Gridiron Kings tourney:

I don't really read much into that picture. There are plenty of examples where guys will wear a particular school's gear or do something like this just for a picture. I'm more concerned about him seemingly being obsessed about getting that Texas offer. It really makes it seem like he is in love with Texas. But I don't know, I'm hoping I'm wrong.

That's what some people said when former South Carolina commit Eric Mack was posing for photos in Auburn gear with Auburn commits at last years UA game.

I hear you, but the picture coupled with his comments about Texas the past few months are pretty telling. He said as of last night that it was 60% Texas 40% Wash/UCLA/Florida. 60% with no offer and making the trip from Wash to Austin on his own dime with his mom.....I think the writing is on the wall.

You can find examples of this on both sides though. Take 2010 USC commit Hayes Pullard. He was seen in a picture wearing UCLA gear and all that with other recruits, and he ends up at USC. In the end, I just think you can't definitively say one way or the other just how meaningful these kinds of things are.

Where did you hear this? I don't think UCLA is even in it. Last I heard, if he was going to stay out west, it would be Washington. Otherwise, it was between Texas/Florida/Alabama. Then according to UW's Scout.com website, Austin said yesterday morning it was down to UW/Texas/Florida.
