Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Never, the BCS will just end up killing the football programs that don't make it into one of the superconferences and the MWC and C-USA are doing the only thing they can to stick around for a couple of years.
Despite this "alliance" I think the MWC ends up folding within a few years or becomes the WAC part 2.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
I've learned that the internet is filled with people that don't realize it is just an agreement of sorts and not a conference. CBS's message board is flooded with people whining and moaning about how a 22-team conference doesn't make sense, never bothering to read or pay attention to how it is going to pit champion vs. champion. It's like people missed how the MWC tried to plan this with the WAC well over a year ago.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
This isn't going to work out so well. Anyone remember why the MWC exists in the first place. The WAC was getting way too big. If 17 was too big for Houston, Rice, and SMU, then 22 is way too big and they'll just quit, even if it's strictly in-division play. See the below image for details of the new merged conference.Attached FilesConference Realignment Guides: NCAA 12-14, College Football 25Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
the big east will probably still get UCF, but the boise, air force, navy additions more than likely wont happen. the big east is looking at houston and SMU also but no word from them yet. they possibly might look at teams like temple and ECU to join as well. i think the big east as a football conference will dissolve in the next couple years anyway or become the new C-USA with UConn and rutgers going to the ACC and West Virginia possibly going to the SEC east. leaving cincinnati, louisville, and south florida (all from the C-USA) looking for new homes like the Big 12 or Big 10 or possibly going independent maybe.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Even if all the schools they invite go, if West Virginia, UConn, and Rutgers leave, that leaves a conference of Cincinatti, USF, UCF, Louisville, SMU, Houston, Boise St, and Air Force. That's only 8, and that's assuming all 5 "invited" teams join, and the Big 12 stays at 10. If even one team says no, or Louisville is gone as well, then you're having to look for another team. And if WVU, UConn, and Rutgers all do leave, that means there will be no football team in the conference that had been there before 2005. I think they'd also have an extremely difficult time keeping their BCS bid. I just don't see why these schools should say yes. If I was any of them, I'd say no.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
But does the Big East really count? There's a decent chance they won't be a BCS conference, if any teams leave. Heck, if only West Virginia leaves, they may lose it. And this new conference may get one (the BCS can be reworked in 2013, I believe it was said).Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
And the C-USA title game is already on ESPN. All that is going to happen is they might get a bigger contract and it will be MWC-CUSA. Not as much is going to change as people think. The word "merger" is a very bad description of this. Now maybe at some point (but I don't think this alliance lasts beyond a couple years because they won't get a BCS bid) they merge completely for football if enough teams bolt. But if teams bolt, there is no hope of a BCS bid and the alliance is then rendered pointless unless ESPN pays a lot more for this new title game.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
But they aren't one conference. I'm willing to bet the TV deal the MWC conference has and the one C-USA has stay separate. MWC is on VS and C-USA is on CBS college sports. Doubt it changes.
