Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
I wouldn't mind Auburn being an eastern team when all the conference jumbling gets settled. Would miss the every year game against LSU, but it would be fun to play TN and FL regularly. The possibility of an Auburn/Bama SECC game would be fun and weird at the same time since it would be a replay of the previous week's game.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Yeah, I heard this too back in August on MSN (Mountaineer Sport Network). They went on further to say that the most likely candidates are Texas A&M, Missouri, NC State, and Virginia Tech. Now we know the SEC has added A&M and Missouri is lobbying hard to be the 14th team, also we know that the ACC has raised the exit fee so I doubt we'll be seeing Tech and State leaving any time soon. The curve ball in this whole situation is that the SEC supposedly has also shown interest in WVU. I think now that the ACC is at 14 teams the SEC will most likely add Missouri to reach 14, but I don't think that will be the end of the situation. Of course we don't know what the Big 12 will do if and when Missouri leaves as far as how many teams they will go after, will it be just BYU or BYU, UofL, WVU. The whole wildcard in this situation for me is Charlotte. Now we all know that when Charlotte starts playing in 2013 they will be in the FCS. But there has already been rumors that the school has been contacted by several FBS conferences about going ahead and joining (MAC,C-USA, and even Big East). I think that is why both the ACC and SEC are saying they will be content with 14 teams for right now with their eye set to the future and trying to add Charlotte. Btw, Charlotte as of right now is listed as a FCS Independent because they have ambitions on moving up, even though they haven't even played their first game yet, so no FCS conferences will add them.Comment

I know the Iron Bowl is a huge deal down there, but isn't the Georgia game a pretty big rivalry too? I'm totally unsure of this, because I think I was 9 when I moved away from Georgia, but it it called the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry? Wouldn't that be good as an end of the year game if the Iron Bowl has to be played earlier?Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
What each school gets from TV:
Big East $5 million
MWC $1.3 million
WAC $0.45 million
Big East TV contract ends in 2013 and they are hoping to get between $19-$23 million per school. They turned down $11 million per school from ESPN.
I would say that offsets travel expenses for like 5 road games a year for Boise.NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)
NBA: Indiana Pacers (42-13)
MLB: Cincinnati Reds (0-0)
NHL: Detroit Red Wings (26-20-12)
NCAA: Purdue Boilermakers (FB: 1-11, BB: 15-12), Michigan Wolverines (FB: 7-6, BB: 19-7, H: 15-10-3)Comment

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—
The University of Missouri could be one step closer to leaving the Big 12 possibly as soon as this week, according to one media report on Tuesday. But the school says that just isn't true.
According to a report in the New York Times, the school could announce their intention to leave the Big 12 for the Southeastern Conference during a Missouri Board of Curators meeting in Kansas City later this week. The report says that the school's exit to the SEC is "inevitable and imminent."
A university official with direct knowledge of the situation says that after the school officially applies, there won't be any problems gathering enough votes among SEC presidents to become a member.
FOX 4 spoke to an university official speaking on behalf of Chancellor Brady Deaton on Monday, and they say that the report isn't true. According to the official, there is no indication that the Board of Curators will discuss conference realignment, let alone make a decision on the matter.
The Board of Curators is expected to meet at UMKC on Thursday and Friday. Missouri's exit from the Big 12 would leave the conference with just nine schools.
Officials with the University of Kansas say that they would not be interested in continuing the Border Showdown with Missouri if the Tigers leave the Big 12. In addition, Missouri's exit to the SEC could put an end to the Big 12 basketball tournament being held in Kansas City.Comment

Geography really doesn't play a role in the conferences now. At a point, the NCAA needs to step in and start denying some of these changes.Chicago Bulls | Chicago Bears | Chicago White Sox | Chicago BlackhawksComment

The NCAA has no say in what conference an Institution can join which ones they cannot join. If anything the Institutions will pressure NCAA officials to amend the rules on how Conferences can be divided. Which means the NCAA is more likely to help speed up this process rather than slow it down.Comment
