The last remaing hurdle is how many times the new Big East will be on ESPN and ESPN 2 versus ESPN U on Saturdays and mid-week games on ESPN. The basketball broadcast package looks good, from what people are saying, but the football one is still be negioated. NBC is offering Primetime Saturday night games and Saturday afternoon games on NBC Sports Network versus ESPN, who wants to put some games on ESPN U and have Thursday night and Wednesday Night games in the package.

Big East Catholic 7 divorce is complete.

Catholic 7 will keep the Big East name, MSG tourny and Butler and Xavier will join the others in time for the 2013 season.

I don't know how they will divide the NCAA Tourny money from the last few seasons and exit fees from WVU, Syracuse, Pitt and TCU and Boise.

The Catholic 7 schools are expected to start their own league next season and will keep the Big East Conference name, sources told ESPN. Joining the Catholic 7 schools in the new "Big East" this fall will be Xavier and Butler, sources said.

SLU, Creighton, Dayton will join Big East in 2014. A10 goes back to 10 schools

Former Big East could be named the America 12 Conference.

Also, the Catholic 7 will get about 10-15 million of the Big East money. They could've had more if they stayed one more year, but since the basketball contract in 2013-2014 took a hit from them leaving, they gave up some money to leave now. UCONN, Cincy and USF get to split about 65-75 million and around 20 million will be left for UH, SMU, UCF, Memphis, and Temple to split upon joining the "America 12".

            And of course:

I'll be honest, I think it's kind of a dumb sounding name, as unpatriotic as that sounds.

Seriously, what's so bad about calling it the Metro Conference? That's basically what it is. It's not as embarrassing as America 12. Legends and Leaders both think that's lame.

That already existed, so I would think someone has the rights to it and they don't want to pay/rehash old conferences

Mountain West nearing a deal to show Boise home games and the MWC championship game on ESPN. Most of the rest of the games will be shown on CBS Sports. Once the deal is signed, it be basically the same deal the Big East got.

Denver to the MVC if Creighton joins the Catholic 7 in the new Big East.

Champs Sports and Pinstripe Bowls will be leaving the America 12 rotation after this season a well.

How is a package that relegates everyone other than BSU to a third class network "basically the same deal"?

So the America 12... with 10 teams. Maybe 11 with Navy. 12 eventually if they do invite Tulsa.

I'm refering to the money. Once the deal is signed, each league will have the same amount of money from the tv deal. Honestly, If I was in a league that was not in the Group of 5, there would be no room for putting my nose up in the air at any other league in the same boat as my school.

The overall total per league will be roughly comparable, the amount each school will receive will not. As I understand it the MWC's payout scheme will reserve almost half of the conference's total tv revenue to be used to pay incentive bonuses to the schools that appear in games aired by major networks (90+ mil homes, i.e. ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, ESPN and ESPN2; as a practical matter for the 2013 season this means the 22 games to be aired by ESPN/ESPN2).

Since all six of BSU's 2013 home games have already been selected by TWWL, that means there are only 16 slices of that pie remaining for the other 11 schools. As a result of this Boise State will get substantially more $ than the other MWC schools, and could easily earn 2-3 times as much as the bottom feeder schools - and that's before bowl revenues are taken into account. Nice deal if you're BSU--not so nice if you're one of the other 11.

The Conference Formerly Known as the Big East (TCFKatBE), otoh, will divide tv revenue more equally (full members receiving a larger share than the BB only schools). Combine that with the facts that (1) for this year at least TCFKatBE still has an auto BCS bowl bid; and (2) far more of it's games will appear on the ESPN family of networks than will the MWC's, thereby giving more schools a shot at national exposure. When you consider those two factors it becomes clear that the notion that the respective deals are roughly the same is an illusion.
