UVA will probably go. UNC is a wildcard IMHO. UNC makes plenty of money no matter where they areNFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)

Big Ten seems to be leaning towards 9 games rather than 10. With 9 games, one division would have 5 at home while the other would have 4 at home. 9 games also allows every player to face every member of the conference at least once during their 4 years in college.Conference Realignment Guides: NCAA 12-14, College Football 25Comment

I don't know if UNC would leave. That would be a major hit to the Duke-UNC rivalry, and they have a lot of power in the ACC.Football: Denver Broncos

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
I don't see any movement by anyone currently in the ACC until there's a court ruling in Maryland's favor in the pending lawsuit, in which a motion to dismiss the ACC's lawsuit in North Carolina court filed by Maryland was recently denied. If the exit fee is waived, all bets are off. Until such time, however, there are $50 Million reasons for UVa, UNC, and VT to stay put.
That and what Giggas' and I have repeatedly stated here; UVa and VT are tied at the hip thanks to state politics; one isn't going anywhere until the other's future is secure.
I do think that if UVa were to leave the ACC, the B1G is the natural landing spot for them.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
UNC fans are NOT happy at all. If you ask a lot of the Carolina fans here, they'd rather go to the SEC if the ACC wasn't an option anymore. But the egg heads that run the university will NEVER allow UNC in the "academically inferior" SEC. Plus, UNC just isn't programmed for the "Win at all Cost" mentality that you need for the SEC and couldn't even handle that academic scandal and agent scandal from 2010 reasonably. Those issues are constant issues that pop up at large SEC schools and the compliance department would have to be doubled to prevent violations and stay on top of the kids like Bama does a good job of doing. Plus, UNC wil never allow partial qualifiers in the school. That is what ran South Carolina out of the ACC in 1971.
Bottom line, I still don't see this happening with UNC. UVA and GT could for sure happen, but UNC is a different beast. Duke-UNC just means that much. Plus, how would ESPN feel about losing their flagship basketball rivalry. For better or worse, ESPN has hitched their wagon to those games and before ESPN lost that, I bet ESPN might step in and sweeten the pot some more for the ACC to keep it together like what happened with the Big 12 and Texas."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
The ACC is made up of a ton of UNC grads. I don't really see them leaving, I wish they would as it would end the ACC as we know it, but I just can't see it. What would Swofford look like allowing UNC to leave? I think UNC would stay with the ACC if they were the last school left in it. Then they could do whatever they wanted.
If UNC leaves, then the ACC drops the dead weight football teams and joins with the Big 12 minus their dead weight, or the SEC takes who they want and the leftovers have to find some where to go.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
The peeps on Inside Carolina are basically throwing some cold water on this. Basically, UNC has an open invite from the B1G if they want if it and they have had one since the early 2000s back when the B1G had 11 schools. People forget Jim Delany is a Carolina grad and played for Dean Smith in the 1960s.
There will always be rumors with UNC to the B1G as long as Delany is commish and until the ACC does a GoR deal"If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
The Big East and ESPN are finalizing a seven-year media rights deal worth $130 million through the 2019-2020 school year, league sources told ESPN's Brett McMurphy.
Big East and ESPN are close to tv deal it looks like. 7 years for $130 million or 20 million per year split among 10-12 schools.
Deal is worth six times less than what was offered 2 years ago.Last edited by cdawg44; 02-21-2013, 10:19 PM."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush
