Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Why, the only wonky geographically schools would be football only so its not like that would break the bank. Besides im pretty sure the extra millions the Big East would get by adding these teams would offset the travel expenses.
I dont see why there is so much fuss with adding these teams, its not like teams take a bus when going cross country. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Especially when you consider outside of WVU, UL, and Rutgers the rest of the teams have a pathetic showing when it comes to bowl traveling.Comment

ESPN Insider:
Temple seemed to be a natural fit within the Big East Conference as the league attempts to expand. The Owls have a tradition rich basketball program, the football team continues to develop into a winner and there is a prior history. None of that apparently matters.
Mike Jensen of the Philly.com reported, "Villanova made it clear it didn't want Temple in the Big East for all sports, and Big East basketball schools, which currently have the voting majority, have put up a united front against Temple, according to multiple sources."
Boise State, Houson and SMU all leapfrogged Temple in the Big East's expansion plans as a result. In part, the importance of building a "western division" to entice Boise State became a bigger concern. Meanwhile, the Owls will have to settle on playing well in the MAC for the foreseeable future.
I don't believe they can afford to be picky here. I'm almost to the point where I want to see the B.E. go basketball only.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Let's say they take 100 personnel (probably just players, coaches, trainers) from Boise to New York. That's about $100,000 just for the flights. Considering the fact that the Boise State athletic department made a net of about $6k last year, I think they might be concerned about the costs.NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
They're still a lot richer than the MWC. And they will be richer when the TV deal is reworked in 2012 (likely with NBC).
Anyways, it appears that Houston has an invitation to the Big East.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
No, but last year Boise St. was in the WAC. And I believe they had to pay the WAC some sort of buyout, did they not? They'll make more money in the MWC this year. They'd make even more in the Big East. The travel expenses become offset by increased tv revenue. And how do you figure it'd be $100,000 just for flights? You're thinking it's going to be $1,000 a person?Comment
