Notre Dame needs to join the Big East in all sports or leave.Gₒ BᵣₒₙcₒₛComment

Well they aren't joining in football. If Notre Dame does decide to join a conference for football, it'll be ACC or B1G. So by making that ultimatum, all the Big East would be doing is kicking out a pretty good program. Notre Dame at that point would just put their sports in a basketball only conference, like the A10 or Patriot League. Notre Dame is just going to laugh at the Big East and say "see ya"

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
NEW YORK -- Notre Dame is picked to win the Big East women's basketball title this season. And Geno Auriemma, said, good, the Irish belong at the top.
Then UConn's Hall of Fame coach blew the doors open on Big East Media Day, leaning hard into Notre Dame for not belonging to the Big East in all sports. Namely football.
"The only thing you're sure of is they don't play in our league and never want to play in our league," Auriemma said Thursday. "For a lot of us, it's a huge problem.
"They've been in our league something like [17] years. How long are we going to date before we just decide this ain't working? I'm not happy about it. That's not the opinion of UConn, the Big East Conference, my president, my AD. That's just Geno Auriemma's opinion. I'm pissed about it."
Asked if his ire is based on the opinion that if Notre Dame football joined the Big East, the entire conference would be stabilized, Auriemma said yes.
"If Notre Dame had come in as a football and basketball school, all in, we wouldn't have a problem," the seven-time national champion coach said. "Miami wouldn't have left. Virginia Tech wouldn't have left. Boston College wouldn't have left. We probably wouldn't have any of these issues, would we?
"We have one school that holds the future of our league in the palm of their hand and they're not really that concerned about it. That's my opinion now. You asked me a question. I'm telling you an answer."
Saying he didn't blame Notre Dame for looking out for its best interest, he added, "Join us in football and then look out for your best interest.
"If you know you as a school have the ability to put a whole bunch of schools at ease and have the Catholic mentality of we're here to serve and help … I went to Catholic school all my life. I love Jesus and I'm not even a Republican."Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
This is awesome.
West Virginia University is about to join the Southeastern Conference.
University officials were set to announce the news at a 4 p.m. press conference Tuesday.
However, the powers-that-be at cable sports network ESPN have been working behind the scenes to usurp the Mountaineers' SEC bid.
You would have heard about all of this sooner, but WVU sports beat writers have been complying with an athletic department media blackout to keep a lid on the whole affair.
None of the above is true, but online tales like these have been driving WVU fans crazy ever since Pittsburgh and Syracuse announced they were leaving the Big East conference on Sept. 17.
"The entire ordeal has been nothing but a headache," said Andrew Bernstein, a WVU grad who lives in Charleston.
He is one of thousands of WVU fans who have taken to Twitter and Internet message boards to talk about the conference realignment drama.
On those message boards, people often look to a few revered insiders to shed some light on the future of the program.
These supposed soothsayers go by user names like "mexman" or "EERHole," speak in obscure riddles or Nostradamus-like quatrains, and purport to have the ear of university higher-ups.
The problem is higher-ups aren't saying much.
The information vacuum has created a breeding ground for people to post anonymous rumors about WVU's future.
"I wish I had a dollar for every rumor I've heard," said Delegate Doug Skaff, D-Kanawha, a former WVU student body president.
"There's a lot of inside sources out there, and I've yet to see any of them proven correct."
That doesn't stop people from posting.
The realignment talk started just a few days after Pittsburgh and Syracuse announced they were leaving the Big East.
The first prognostication came from someone called "Luke444," who said he knew for a fact that WVU had been accepted by the SEC, and it was going to be announced at 4 p.m. the following Tuesday.
That Tuesday came and went.
Then came a woman with the username "EERNation," whose credentials included having a Twitter account.
While WVU still has not joined the SEC, the rumor keeps popping up online. People then see it and repost it on their Twitter feeds, and the rumor starts fueling itself.
"At no time in Mountaineer sports have people claimed to know more while actually knowing less," Bernstein said.
Online rumors are nothing new. In fact, psychologists have been studying them.
John Suler is a psychology professor at New Jersey's Rider University who specializes in online behavior. He has documented what he calls the "online disinhibition effect."
"When people become disinhibited online, often due to anonymity . . . they say and do things they wouldn't in a face-to-face situation," Suler said. "In some cases they act out their underlying needs and fantasies."
Many times people take to posting outlandish statements because they crave attention or want to feel powerful, he said.
Or maybe they're just plain mean.
People buy into it because they want to believe what the person is saying, Suler said.
"With all of the opinions floating around in cyberspace, and all the 'information' there, you can selectively find whatever you want to verify your position or opinion," he said. "Facts don't matter that much any more."
Luckily, WVU faithful seem to be learning how to tune out the noise.
"I gave up looking at the message boards months ago, wasn't helping anything," said WVU fan Drew Ross. "It does a person no good to waste time worrying when there are bigger problems all around."
Skaff said the conference drama is taking fan attention away from the team, which has been doing quite well this year.
Ross said fans should refocus on supporting their team.
"If you are truly a fan of WVU athletics, step away from the ledge and enjoy West Virginia in autumn and the good season WVU football is having," he said.Comment

It appears that Mizzou to the SEC is all but official now. Oh well, hopefully WVU gets into the Big 12 or gets into the SEC if they eventually go to 16.
If the SEC wants TV sets, then they can have them.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Awww superjames, you had me excited about the SEC! But to tell you the truth, I think that we wouldnt get past 5 wins in the SEC, in the Big 12 maybe 8 or 9, and we could go to a BCS bowl every year if we get SMU, Houston, and UCF to join, if those rumors are even true. It would be cool to get a little more publicity in a higher conference, though.Saturday Night Lights Online Dynasty
