No, they didn't, but people on other message boards were making huge deals out of Arkansas even mentioning that they would consider it... for all of 5 seconds. Once you're in the SEC, there is no reason to leave; same with the Big Ten. Those conferences just provide too many advantages. For Arkansas to leave that for the Big Implosion... I mean 12, yea, not smart. They'd just be begging to come back in a few years.

What conference wouldn't want Texas basketball or baseball? If the Big East had no problem taking Notre Dame without football, I'm sure there is a conference out there that would accept them. Not to mention, as the other sports have no BCS bias, it's not like they'd have to go to a big time league. I doubt the Little 8 would want anything to do with them if they bailed.Comment

Th conference that makes the most sense for UT is the one they're in currently. If the Ags do wind up heading to the SEC, I think UT makes an all out effort to hold the Big XII together via a combination of new blood (BYU? Louisville?) and a more equitable revenue sharing plan.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
The TAMU Rivals site that broke this story is the same one that declared A&M to the SEC was a done deal last summer.
Everything else I have seen has said that it is likely but far from a done deal at this point. TAMU Regents meet on the 22nd and we will know then.
Have also seen that the other 9 Big XII schools have no interest in going anywhere if/when TAMU leaves. This seems to be the part that everyone giddy about the Big XII's demise is ignoring.
It will come down to the Longhorn Network. Texas wants it to work, and it only can work in the Big XII. They will do whatever it takes to make it work. If the LHN doesn't work out, I've seen that UT plans to scrap it and jump ship for the Pac-12 with Tech/OU/OSU. This means that everyone with no bargaining position (half of the Big XII) will do whatever it takes to keep the conference afloat with the LHN. That was was A&M was pissed about.
My point being, if A&M stays now, they probably won't stay long. Everyone else though doesn't really care. The Big XII will continue as a 9 team league until 2015 or so. Fox has said that their contract is still on the table if the conference goes to 9 teams. We would be silly to add a team to the conference with the same TV deal. If A&M leaves, their share of the $$$ is getting split 9 ways - beautiful. But in/after 2015, all bets would be off, especially if superconferences are imminent and the Pac-12 comes calling for those four from the south.Comment

A&M is going to the SEC. When is the only question and that will most likely be official before the end of August.
After that, the dominos will start to fall. The schools that actually have the power to leave, i.e. Oklahoma, etc. will do so because Texas is so ridiculously full of themselves that staying in the Big 12 resemble that of indentured servitude to the Longhorns.
It's Texas's fault that all of this is going down. Their greed and their belief that they are the end all be all of College Football in that region is forcing the hand of smarter folks to find a more fair and reasonable opportunity.
Listening to Big 12 fans downgrade A&M and attack their decision is hilarious considering the only alternative is to sit there and watch your rival get their own damn TV network going and continue to run the conference like their own personal mafia.
IMO...this will be the start of the Superconference movement.
You'll see the SEC go to 14 teams shortly. Texas will go independent. The rest of the Big 12 scraps will be divided up with the lesser schools (Iowa State, Baylor, etc.) going to a conference like the WAC or MWC.AUBURN TIGERS

The Big 12 won't exist as a 9 team league, 7 team league, 3 team league, etc. This conference, for all intents and purposes, is toast.

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
I'm not here to talk about that. FYI - not everything thread on this CFB board is about Auburn. Try to comprehend that.
If you didn't bother to read (which, you clearly didn't), I posted yesterday that I did think A&M was probably going. I still do.
I have been reading up on Big XII writer's sites for the past two days and finding some useful information. When I try to pass it along here, I get a response so completely asinine as to almost be a joke. It is in in line with so little facts that it appears to possibly be a parody.
But then I see who wrote it, and I just have to shake my head.Comment

Pac16Conference: Let's just say that it's no accident that In-N-Out opened locations in TX this year..all part of the master plan.
i hope it continues as the big 9 and perhaps add another program or two or three as they go. As long as ESPN is on board, (it's in ESPNs best interest for the conference to survive) the conference will be straight. They should probably change the name though.Last edited by ZB9; 08-12-2011, 11:40 AM.Comment
