Wait wait... the ESPN article says:

Marinatto also said Friday that West Virginia is aware that the conference will enforce the 27-month notification period to leave the Big East -- the same rule applied to Pittsburgh and Syracuse, who have agreed to join the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Wouldn't that mean they can't play a Big 12 schedule next year?

I don't know; I'm reading conflicting reports on that. I'm thinking WVU will pay out of their *** to play a Big 12 schedule next year, but we'll see.

Sportscenter just reported that WVU will join for the 2012-2013 season, so looks like the Mountaineers will be joining on July 1st, 2012.

I do not see the Big East giving West Virginia the go-ahead to leave early but not SU and Pitt. The sooner WVU leaves, the sooner the Big East dies and they know it.

What I want to know is why any team would consider going to the Big East, without SU, PITT, and WVU, they are no better than CUSA. I am curious as to what happens to UCONN or RU.

The Big 12 is a complete joke of a conference. I really wish OU would have been able to join the Pac-12.
