You lose the DC market. Adding UCONN gets you nothing in football. Adding UofL gets you the potential to have another top 20 team.
FSU needs to just leave now.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Rumor is Maryland and Rutgers to the Leaders Division and Illinois moving to the Legends.
Great job, B1G. Opportunity arises to correct the laughable joke of having Michigan and Ohio State in different divisions, and of course you don't fix it.
This conference is an embarrassment and a sham, and Delaney should be strapped to a rocket and fired into the sun.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
As to FSU leaving, where would FSU go? They aren't going to the SEC for historic reasons within that conference. I doubt they'd like the politics any better in the Texas and Friends conference (which I don't understand how they are in any better shape than the ACC). Going to the Big 14 or Pac 12 doesn't make geographic sense and the travel costs would be prohibitive. This is all before the $50M buyout.
I don't think FSU is going anywhere, just like I don't think the ACC is going anywhere.Comment

What's the set up like? Play everyone in your division then 2-3 from the other?Comment

like Delany and his henchmen thought it through...details aren't exactly Delany's strong suit. i think it's more like grab the money, ask questions later. or use christmas break to let it sink in, and hope people will forget about a 90%+ disapproval rating...Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
This implies that Maryland actually brought the DC market any more so than UVa and/or Virginia Tech (in fact it's the Hokies, not Maryland, who routinely host out-of-conference games at FedExField). DC, like Atlanta, is a pro sports town, and what college athletics interest that exists there is going to be homogenized (particularly in basketball) between UVa, VT, Maryland, Mason, GW, VCU, American, Liberty, and so on. Given that and the waning interest in Maryland athletics based on football attendance, I don't think Maryland's departure forfeits DC.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Maryland isn't going to pay the $50 million exit fee. The final settlement will be much, much less I'm sure. Let's also remember that they and Florida State voted against the exit fee increase a few months ago.
IIRC, WVU paid around $5 million of the original $20 million exit fee (maybe I don't remember right, but I believe that was it).
Plus, Mr. Under Armour himself may be willing to give some extensive donations to the school, in any case.
Once Maryland gets away with it, the floodgates will probably come open.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Because the possibility of them playing two weeks in a row exists (not this year obviously). It's the same reason Alabama and Auburn are in the same division in the SEC. If and when the time comes that UM and OSU are playing two straight weeks, it will cheapen the rivalry. It's ridiculous.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
I won't miss Maryland, my experience with their fans (as a general group, I'm sure there are some good Maryland fans out there) is that they were classless. I cite my personal experience, my brother's personal experience, and the last Duke - Maryland basketball game I saw where the entire student section chanted "F*** You Scheyer" at senior guard Jon Scheyer.
As for the ACC being "poached", I don't see it. They'll get back up to 14 with UConn or Louisville and go from there at basically the same strength. With the Notre Dame alliance intact as well they're not in a terrible position. There's also at least one line of thought (i.e. collection of rumors) that the ACC has the biggest home run ball lined up of all the remaining conferences, potentially adding Notre Dame and Texas as full members simultaneously once the playoff replaces the BCS.
Put it this way, losing Maryland doesn't hurt the ACC one bit.
I wouldn't say losing MD doesn't hurt the ACC(although they are damn lucky they have Pitt and Cuse coming otherwise it'd simply be the Carolina and Others Conference, especially in Basketball)because losing that DC does hurt somewhat.
This implies that Maryland actually brought the DC market any more so than UVa and/or Virginia Tech (in fact it's the Hokies, not Maryland, who routinely host out-of-conference games at FedExField). I don't think FSU is going anywhere, just like I don't think the ACC is going anywhere.
Put it like this, here's is the ranking of teams in terms of relevance to DC(list is just based on living and growing up in DC for 23 of my 26 years):
For College Basketball:
1. G'Town
2. Maryland
3. Next closest team to DC, which is basically any of the VA teams.
College Football:
1. Which ever team is having the best year at the time
The DC market is important, UMD is not important. While UMD may not have many fans, it allows the DC market to show other ACC games. Those games may no longer be on TV now. Now B1G games will be on. Markets is why UMD has somewhere else to go, nothing to do with their sport teams.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
They aren't going to change that game from the last week of the season either, so having them on the same side would be the only way to "fix" this.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment
