Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
They aren't Catholic, But that won't prevent the Big East basketball schools from being interested in having that program in the fold. Its a Small Priavte school with a head coach that looks to stay there for awhile with back to back championship game appearances. Trust, they'll get over the not Catholic thing. Even VCU has been mentioned. Basically its about getting basketball first schools and getting the hell away from football schools."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
I know the original concern was balancing, but now that Penn St. is going to suck for a long time, it makes it a little easier. The only problem with East/West is that it splits up Indiana/Purdue. I know, it's not a big time rivalry, but it's the only sectional rivalry that'd get split up. Still probably the best of the three. Option 3 looks terrible.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
With these new developments with the Big East, I can't help but think why in the heck would Boise still wanna go to the Big East at this point. The tv deal now basically not even half of the value that you thought it might be a year ago. They are looking at 3.5 - 4 million a year at this point. On top of that, they have to pay the Big West one million a year to place their Olympic sports there. So now you are down to 3 million a year. Factor in cross country plane rides to Temple, Memphis, Tulane and East Carolina among others, and this move will end up costing Boise. San Diego St already came out and said their going still, but they don't have the money problem with the Big West to worry about.
As much as basketball isn't as important to tv deals for most leagues, the Big East tv deal was going to be about 30 percent b-ball value. Now that product is basically worthless with only UCONN, Cincy, Memhis and Temple giving you anything in b-ball now and some awful teams with Tulane, U of H and others.Last edited by cdawg44; 12-14-2012, 01:16 AM."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

East/West is also okay. What they shouldn't do at all is keep Ohio State and Michigan in separate divisions, and fortunately it sounds like there's a lot of conversation on avoiding that.NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)
NBA: Indiana Pacers (42-13)
MLB: Cincinnati Reds (0-0)
NHL: Detroit Red Wings (26-20-12)
NCAA: Purdue Boilermakers (FB: 1-11, BB: 15-12), Michigan Wolverines (FB: 7-6, BB: 19-7, H: 15-10-3)Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
all i can say is i thankfully own many of the last-gen ncaa football games before all this crazy re-alignment and changes of the past few years. i can still fire up ncaa games on ps2 or whatever when the conferences were recognizable.
not that conferences were perfect or anything, but the major conferences stayed pretty much the same for a while. (at least BigTen, Pac10, SEC, BigXII) those are the main conferences that most people took serious for the national title. i find it therapeutic to play through a season of dynasty in the last-gen ncaa games, where you know the conference schedule rotations, and stuff. that was something we took for granted during the good ol' days of college football.
as far as the future of this re-alignment, i am to the point where the big four conferences are so messed up right now, that i've pretty much given up all hope for major conference college football. i just can't see it ever being as good as it was before the re-alignment. i don't know about you guys, but for me, i just am really interested with what is going to happen to these Mountain West teams. with the WAC dissolving, i just hope that the mountain west has enough solid top western mid-major teams in it. What is the status of Boise State and San Diego State? A few weeks ago it seemed as if they might re-consider staying in the Mountain West with the Big East exodus. We have a bunch of WAC teams considering joining the Mountain West. but i think everyone is waiting on what Boise State and San Diego State decide. Because the mountain west might add more teams if Boise State and San Diego State leave. I guess we have to wait until the bowl season is over before any final decisions are made in regard to next year's mountain west.Comment
