Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows

Good God Fox threw a bunch of money at the "Caholic 7" to get them on their new sports channel after they form their league:
    500 million over 15 years

The seven Catholic schools that plan to leave the Big East to form their own basketball conference expect to double their money off a television deal, according to sources.

33M a year is decent money, but its a drop in the bucket to Fox. It will be interesting to see how many games a week they show, since they need a lot of winter programming for FoxSports1

If I was Tulane's AD, I would just be quiet. The fact that they are stealing money from the Big East and adding zilch to the pot gives them no room to talk crap to Boise.

Anyway, It looks like UMASS, Tulsa, Southern Miss are all next up for possible Big East membership.

Well, UMass at least makes sense from a geographical standpoint and because they can renew a rivalry with UConn assuming the Huskies don't get picked up byt the ACC. I actually have UMass in my 12-team Big East for NCAA 13, they've been absolutely terrible though (though I'm sure that doesn't surprise anyone).

Mike Aresco might be a smart guy, but he had to be high when he asked ESPN for 300 million a year for the new Big East before Boise left last fall.

Put it in context, the Pac-12 gets 250 million a year from ESPN and Fox combined.

i feel like the Mountain West is shaping up to be better than the Big East, especially if San Diego State ends up staying and considering Louisville is off to the ACC, with Pitt and Syracuse pretty much already there.

I'm a bit biased, but UMass can't do any worse in the Big East than they did in the MAC. The UConn rivalry's pretty much dead though, we only scheduled them last year because UNH already had a game for that week IIRC. (One game in 14 years indicates a dead rivalry.)

Well, it looks like you may get your wish along with Tulsa to come to the Big East. Since the Western Division of the Big East is now a dead issue.

San Diego State is staying in the mountain west.

San Diego State is expected to be reinstated as a member of the Mountain West Conference this afternoon, according to industry sources.

UMass would probably go 0-7 in the Big East, so I think they could do much worse then they did in the MAC.. which was 1 win.

Florida Atlantic and MTSU are joining CUSA on July 1, 2013 and not in 2014 as originally planned. CUSA will have 14 football members and 16 all sports members (UNC-Charlotte and Old Dominion University still moving up football in 2015)

Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee State will leave the Sun Belt and join Conference USA on July 1, sources said Friday.
