A lot of young guys besides Tharold Simon, it'll hurt the secondary a lot but the D-line is still one of the best and LBs seem much improved.

I guess once again it all comes down to if the offense has really taken a significant step forward in the passing game, defense can afford to take a step back the offense has to move forward. If not then won't live up to expectations

I don't see how this isn't a big blow. The guy was a Heisman finalist and won the Bednarik award. You don't just replace that. Well, maybe LSU can. They seem to do okay replacing great DBs
Yes, kinda. Mathieu's ball skills are just stupid crazy. Near impossible to teach it. But what he gained notoriety for was that he was a decent cornerback who was really good at blitzing off of the edge. That was his game, and Chavis pretty much set him up to do just that. IDK if LSU has the talent in DB to replicate his blitzing ability, but from what i've read, everybody in line after Mathieu was just as good at coverage, but needed some work on playing to the LOS.

However, I expect Chavis to just switch to a more traditional scheme and drop this cornerback blitz stuff, unless he thinks Simon is capable of doing it.

Being completely honest, If this was Alex Hurst or Dworaczyk, I would be devastated. This is a hit to the defense, no denying it, but's it's just a dent.

        Thanks for the insight fellas.

One thing I am pumped about is that Brent Musburger can stop saying Honey Badger a million times a game.

Not to mention his skills in the return game. Any idea who will take over on punt returns?

He's going to be missed on both sides of special teams. That's where this loss is going to hurt LSU the most.

Did he not play on the punt coverage team? I seem to remember him making plays where he stripped the return man. Could be wrong. Is that not "both sides"?

Yes, but aside the Oregon strip and a play or two here, he wasn't really a standout on the coverage.

That's a shaky thing for me, I posted about it before in this thread. He's talented and has a high motor, but he is undersized and has character issues which are two huge things to NFL scouts. He might go undrafted honestly. I can see him maybe getting picked up down the road, but I don't think he'll get drafted.

LOL, so apparently WVU/Louisville is the 20th-best rivalry in all of college football! Who knew?

And it is a bigger rivalry than WVU/Pitt? SMH.

I've heard some rumors that the Backyard Brawl may resume in 2014 with a home-and-home series being played in September.

Who knows if it is true, though? And, even if it is, we'll see if it works out.

I feel like the Backyard Brawl will resume in the near future (next five years or so), but both teams' schedules are fairly full (and nine conference games for both teams starting next year isn't helping that), so it will take some work to make it happen.
