Now, I'm not going so far as buying another team's shirt but I do have conference pride. I know it may look like I'm trying to ride coattails being a Kentucky fan, but it's not just football either. Kentucky is hands-down the most dominant basketball program in the SEC almost every year, but I would like to see the rest of the SEC get better so we can rival the ACC better.
Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
As a Florida fan, we're just going to have to agree to disagree, there is no way Florida was the #5 team in the country last year. Sure they beat A&M, but A&M had them on the ropes after the first half and if it wasn't Johnny's first big SEC game I think they win that game. Bama, LSU, UGA, Oregon, Stanford were all definitely better then UF and by the end of the year, A&M was and ND deserved to be based on wins/losses.Yup. However, the site I posted reveals a few problems with the AP Poll:
Ohio State and Notre Dame were too high
Florida was too low
Louisville wasn't ranked properly
Clemson barely belonged in the top 25
Kansas State and Oklahoma were really underrated
Vanderbilt was really overrated due to the SEC effect
I think this also confirms how top-heavy the SEC was last year. The bottom of the conference really wasn't all that great. There is a lot of evidence that says the SEC is on top, but bowl games by themselves are a very poor measuring stick.Golf: Bubba

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
You might want to check the 2014 recruiting class rankings. Kentucky currently has the #5 class in the nation with Stoops at the helm. We're chanting SEC but we're finally doing something to make some noise and that should translate to more success on the field as well.I as well, but Bama, LSU, and Florida winning championships does not do anything positive for my team, anymore than a team in the PAC-12 winning it. But, while bottom-tier SEC team fans are chanting S...E....C...., they are getting further behind in recruiting and losing ground while their higher classed SEC bretheren are winning 'ships. I just dont get itComment

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
Another interesting question for me is the converse. Why do people hate so much against an entire conference? Would like to get some outsider opinions. I quote your post because you say sadly like your rooting for the conference to lose. So many fans outside say it's pathetic to root for a conference but IMO it's just as pathetic or worse to root against one. Same logic as far as I can tell. And I know lot of the hate goes to people pulling for the conference like it's their own team. But also the reverse applies. Many fans in the SEC pull for SEC team out of conference because of the hate.My Teams

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
Not speaking for anyone else, but that's pretty much how I feel. And really, the second part is irrelevant. If Tennessee is winning the championship every year, I couldn't care less what the other teams are doing. They could be the worst 13 teams in the country or the second-best through the 14th. Doesn't matter to me if the Vols are on top.Comment

We will revisit that "ranking" in February........when it actually means somethingComment

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
No I was referring to the idea of the SEC not performing in Bowls as a sad one because they keep proving it. The only team I root against in the SEC > 80% of the time is Ole Miss.Another interesting question for me is the converse. Why do people hate so much against an entire conference? Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
This is a good example. I root against UT in Vandy game but for them in Bama game. If any of the three play OOC I root for them. I used to root against UT more during the Fulmer years, but I want them back on that level because I enjoy that rivalry being a legit rivalry.Golf: Bubba

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
According to your QBR like site ND ranks below Standford and Oklahoma, both of whom they beat? I've never seen this site before, I'm past disagreeing on it and trying to figure it out.Yup. However, the site I posted reveals a few problems with the AP Poll:

There is a lot of evidence that says the SEC is on top, but bowl games by themselves are a very poor measuring stick. The fact that some SEC fan made a web page on how to interpret the results in different ways shows how poor it is.Golf: Bubba

Well I'm hoping Tennessee will finish up top five with the class they have signed already for next year. A few sites have them ranked number one as of now, still have TheBerry twins to commit
Plus I'm with you for being against rest of SEC...ESPECIALLY ALABAMA I loved when Louisiana Monroe beat them few years back. Then dynasty happened:banghead:
