Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
SCar only has one conference achievement. Losing to auburn in the CCG in 2010. Baaaaad. Georgia, Florida, TAMU, Bama, and lsu are all better. They aren't that good against the great schools while killing lowly schools.Comment

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
Well Notre Dame went undefeated against arguably the best Pac 12 team, 2nd best Big 12 team, 3rd best Big Ten team, and a bunch of other teams only to get taken to the woodshed against Bama. Seriously that NC game was just sad.
That said, I think ND could've held their ground against say Georgia(not saying they'd win but at least compete), but Alabama is crazy good. I voted the 2nd option, but last years NC really opened my eyes to the talent disparity between the SEC and everyone else.Indianapolis Colts

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
As a reference for the conference to conference comparison, I used the final power ranking for 2012 from a handicapping website (http://www.jhowell.net/cf/cf2012.htm). It was the only power ranking I could find that was after bowl games, but it probably is the best one to use for the SEC-haters. Mainly because it does not take any polls into consideration, based only on record & schedule, so the human "favoritism" is removed from the equation
# = ranking in poll

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
Based on those power rankings from the end of the 2012 season,
SEC #1 Alabama is better than #1 in every other power conference, obviously
SEC #2 Florida better than all other #2's & #1's (except Oregon)
SEC #3 Texas A&M better than all other #3's & #2's
SEC #4 Georgia better than all other #4's, #3's, & #2's (except Stanford)
SEC #5 South Carolina better than all other #5's, #4's, #3's, & #2's (except Stanford)
SEC #6 LSU better than all other #6's, #5's, #4's, #3's, & #2's (except Stanford)
SEC #7 Vanderbilt better than all other #7's, 6's, & 5's
SEC #8 Mississippi St. better than all other #8's but would be #3 in ACC
SEC #9 Ole Miss better than all other #9's & #8's but would be #3 in ACC
SEC #10 Missouri better than all other #10's & #9's (except Washington) but would be #6 in ACC
SEC #11 Tennessee better than all other #11's, 10's, & 9's (except Iowa St.) and even better than some #8's
SEC #12 Arkansas better than all other #12's, 11's, & 10's
SEC #13 Auburn would #10 in the Pac-12 & Big 12, #11 in the Big Ten, & #9 in ACC
SEC #14 Kentucky better than all #12's & would be #10 in Big 12
I don't see how you can argue with those numbers. For each ranking slot, the SEC's team is ranked higher in the power rankings than all teams in other conferences and in most would rank significantly higher than they do in the SEC. You can't stand on how "bad" our bottom tier teams are when even our worst team, my Wildcats, are better than every other conferences worst team, even though the SEC was the only conference to have 14 teams last year & we're essentially comparing our 14th best team to your 12th or 10th best team. This actually makes the SEC look better than I thought. I figured there would be at least one or two spots someone would beat us in.Comment

Also 2-1 against UF over the last 3 years.
And many would argue that UGA's favorable SEC schedule the past 2 years have made it easier to win the division. We'll see what SC can do with a more manageable schedule.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 07-25-2013, 07:46 PM.Comment

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
This is how I feel about the SEC...
The SEC have so many teams ranked and many are in the top 15. When a #2 SEC team loses to the #5 SEC team they won't drop much in the top 25 and its a continuing cycle... Now if you flip it to other conference like the Pac-12 if Oregon loses to an unranked USC team you will see quite a drop off...That is why we see 1 loss SEC teams in the BCS Championship games often...I strongly feel we should implement the top 25 polls in the middle of the season instead of the preseason so that way it doesn't give other conferences more leverage than others..I know I am going to get bashed on this but that is why I feel the SEC is so dominant. It's from these preseason polls. The top teams knock eachother off and don't slip much in the polls because their rankings are not far apart..If it's another conference the drop off would be more significant because of the gaps in the rankings between teams in that conference...
Also it is obvious it plays a role in the BCS polls when you beat tougher teams ranked in the top 25...Are there bias in the polls..? I kind of believe so. The media bought in to how good the SEC are so that is why we always see a lot of schools ranked so high in th SEC early on and that high preseason rankings plays a huge role later on...
Is the SEC the best conference in all of College Football? I believe so but I also believe it isn't a big of a gap as other conferences as the experts believe...Last edited by UWfan206; 07-25-2013, 07:51 PM.Comment

To win 7 straight, it also involves some luck. Anytime an SEC team lost it's spot in the championship game...Every team waiting in the wings has found a way to lose.Comment

Please keep in mind I'm talking inside the conference. It's clear to all of us Bama has more MNC titles with Saban then UF had with Spurrier.Last edited by Amoo316; 07-26-2013, 04:05 AM.Golf: Bubba
