The SEC pride just gives me a laugh. Can't take anyone seriously that is happy their conference opponents do well.
Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???

"Conference Pride" is any sport is asinine. I was every B1G team not named Wisconsin to lose every game. Same goes for every NFC North team not named "Green Bay" and every NL Central team not named "Milwaukee."

I still don't get how anyone could argue against Bama being in the '11 championship. I just don't understand people's beef with them (minus Auburn). They've gotten lucky with other teams losing and have taken advantage the past few years. Not to mention ridiculous talent.SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
I don't want Alabama, Georgia, or Florida to succeed at anything.
I don't really buy into the chest beating and chanting SEC every chance I get, but I don't see anything wrong with a little conference pride.
I don't get joy out of seeing other teams in the conference succeed while Auburn is finishing dead last and winless in the SEC. At the same time, I don't want to get to the end of the year and constantly have people questioning my team's credibility when they do win because of a suspect conference schedule.
This isn't the NFL, where I want Atlanta and NO to suck as hard as possible. There's no benefit to Tampa Bay when they do play well because strength of schedule isn't a factor at all. In a sport like CFB where It can make a difference, **** yeah I want the conference to play well.
I wish people would stop directing those type comments at everyone, when it's not everyone. AA and Husker aren't anywhere in this thread.Last edited by AUChase; 07-27-2013, 05:56 PM.Comment

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
Very well said sir! Guess LSU guy would be whistling different tune if all of a sudden the SEC became a second rate conference, LSU went 13-0, and had to watch undefeated Big Ten & Pac-12 teams play for the title cuz their schedule was tougher. With your NFL reference, actually strength of schedule can be a factor. It is one of the tie-breaking procedures for the wildcard spots & playoff seeding...very rare but it can be a factor.Boston Red Sox

I as well, but Bama, LSU, and Florida winning championships does not do anything positive for my team, anymore than a team in the PAC-12 winning it. But, while bottom-tier SEC team fans are chanting S...E....C...., they are getting further behind in recruiting and losing ground while their higher classed SEC bretheren are winning 'ships. I just dont get it

Until someone else breaks the streak of national championships no one can argue that the SEC is in a class of their ownComment

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
I don't think anyone really doubts whether or not the SEC is the best conference in CFB, they have established that as fact over the past 7 years.
The question and debate centers around how big the gap is between the conferences, and particularly how much of an influence media perception plays in that gap.Ohio State Buckeyes | Carolina Panthers | Charlotte Hornets | Cincinnati RedsComment

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
This guy gets it. I'm no math major but 2 is better than 1. For the past 7 years, the SEC has had 2 teams getting BCS money that has to be shared with the other SEC schools. Also, it helps with recruiting against schools outside the SEC.

Re: Is the SEC really that dominant or overrated???
After reading this thread I'm glad to see even some fans of teams in the SEC saying conference pride is silly. I was always mind blown and thought the whole conference pride thing was just drunk SEC fans trolling at games etc. Then I realized some were serious...Comment

Even if the streak is broken I would bet anything no other conference will have have the run that the SEC has had ever again.
7 national titles in a row by 4 different teams is just unreal. I get why people say its top heavy though just because 4 different teams won it does not mean those teams are championship caliber every year. But again just the fact that 4 different teams won it in this run really is amazingLast edited by Swamp Swagger; 07-30-2013, 10:45 PM.Comment
