Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
So apparently you can have a player commit to your school without offering them a scholarship, during the regular season?
screenshot below. no scholarship offered, but he committed week 14. also had another player that did the same, the other 3* below. they were on my board as a backup, I was actually going to remove them after advancing to the week, but they committed.
normally wouldn't care, but this may put me over 85 players next season, so I may have to cut 2 people that are better than them.
Unfortunately this is a bug in the game that effects recruiting strategy. In earlier versions you could recruit players that you will offer if someone leaves early for the draft or remove them from your board if the player stays. That is not something you can do in this game because they can commit to an offer that was never made. In fact, I have had recruits commit to my program without a scholarship offer when they had offers from other schools. My original thought when this happened was that they would commit like they were a accepting to be a preferred walk on when they had no other offers, but that is not the case.
To have a recruit as a backup plan, you have to remove him as soon as he moves you into his #1 spot. Removing all of the recruiting hours will not necessarily discourage him from signing an imaginary offer. I started cycling several recruits as backup plans to prevent the unwanted signing. The upside of this is that you may find a recruit you like better than the recruit who was originally the #1 backup.Comment

Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
Yea that's happened to me as well and usually in the offseason when I'm the only offer. So now I removed the players I don't want to make sure I don't over sign

Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
I had always assumed that could happen (that guys could commit even if you didn't offer a scholarship), but I don't recall it happening 15-ish seasons into my dynasty. At least not that I noticed. I'm not even sure if it's a "glitch" - the game just seems to treat offering a scholarship as just another pitch, like contacting family/friends or something.
I've got tons of time into the game and still love it, but I do hope that significant revisions or improvements are in the future for the handling of scholarships, walk-ons, and transfers. Transfers are the worst out of those 3 - my program is stupid overpowered, but I should be punished for having great players buried on the depth chart, and nobody ever even threatens to transfer out. I've sort of added this artificially to the claim during "encourage transfers" by looking at certain players that I feel would not stick around and cutting them, even if they would make great high-rated backups.
But it would also be nice to be able to recruit lower-rated walk-ons at depth positions, and then you would have the freedom to cut them at any time if you needed to thin the roster. It's actually a big problem if you land two similar players at the same position in one week because the game forces you to roster them until a whole year has passed.Comment

Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
Last season that player only got a few carries per game, because they were behind a top caliber HB who ended up winning the Heisman. He did leave early for the draft and went first round.
So I had created the storyline in my head that he was sad he wasn't playing and was excited about the upcoming season. However, I had another HB who got a better progression.
So he would again be #2 on the dept chart, so I figured he would say enough is enough and would transfer.Space for rentComment

Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
Position change question here for those running a old school offense. I'm going to do a test since we are late in the game cycle and turn a athlete C into a blocking FB. Has anyone tried this?
He is fast enough with 80 speed and obviously has the strength, run blocking and lead block. He comes with the team player badge as well. Any tips or things I should look for when making the change? I've got coaching skills for HB/FB Progression so if he comes in with upside it would be sweet.

Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
After getting back into the game a little, I can definitely feel the emotional attachment you get for your recruits, especially when you have to move on from them. I'm on the 3rd year of using the same trio of RBs. Two of the RBs the previous coach recruited, both were excellent players so far. The third RB is someone I got at the very end of the first offseason recruiting. He was a 3 star gem Elusive back Nava with 94 speed. First two years, I used Nava as a 3rd down RB and split out at WR. But, he maxed out at 84 OVR last year. The next season after I got all 3 RBs, I went after a 5 star Power RB Payne just because. I rarely used Payne first two years. In his RS Soph year, Payne is a 85 OVR Power RB with 95 Speed. I still have an attachment towards Nava, but I decided to give Payne the 3rd RB role. Payne seems to have the highest potential of all my backs. I could put Nava at Returrner. But, I got a 3 star Transfer WR Coffman the previous season 95 speed and Shifty ability. Coffman hasn't touched the field as a WR and likely won't in his career. But, he was an elite Returner. I had about 5-6 TDs combined return TDs and got a Kickoff TD on the very first play of my current season. My original trio of RBs are all RS JRs and Payne is a RS Soph. I actually hope that my RB1 Blum declares for draft, so I can transition to a new group. My RB2 Vacarro was actually my starter as a RS FR and had a great year. But, Blum progressed faster and took the job as a RS Soph.
Another player I'm attached to is my RS Soph DE Westbrooks. Westbrooks was my very first 5 star Recruit. As a RS FR, he had to be my top 3 defender on my defense. He had 16 total sacks lined up against LTs as a RS FR and won the best DE award. Albeit against a FCS team, he was a gamewrecker in the season opener. He's the type where I doubt I he stays after his RS Soph year. I wouldn't even persuade him to stay either.Comment

Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
Yes, I recently changed either a C or OG into a FB because I notice his rating would be very high at that position in "Position Changes". I suspect the player was recruited as an ATH, which is why he had enough categories high enough to work at that position. However, as the posted above said, he has no catch. He's also like 6'1" 289lb, so he's a tank, but all I do with him is block in Goal Line or I-Form formations anyway. Typically, TE's make the best FB's. I gave up recruiting FB's months ago, since they are all 3* or less and take years to be halfway decent.Comment

Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
This is one of the coolest recruiting stories I have and why I love the way it's done. Also, A reminder to not just ignore 2* if you are wanting to do things the realistic way. I'm in year 2033 so I've been very conservative with recruiting using 3* as my base with a few 4* sprinkled in. Since I've made the playoffs a few years in a row and it's toward the end of the game's life span I was going to bump that up to 4* as the base next year. The plan was for me to leave a few roster spots open to save for the 4* next year.
I'm on week 4 of the offseason so I'm struggling to use all of my weekly points and came close to just moving on to signing day. They aren't even any 3* I could really get or want at this point. I figured I might as well just scout some 2* for the heck of it. I find 2 OG's with 89/90 strength that are gem's which is as high as you will see from a 2*. A agile OG with that high of strength as two * is a great combo. I get commits from both of them and one of them has star development and both a lot of upside. I have OL training boost so with about 2 years of development they should be ready to start as redshirt sophomore or at least be a key backup. I moved one to C that's why the overall is a bit lower.
If you don't know the low overall when combined with the offseason training boost you almost always get a nice boost year 1.

Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
I do hope they adjust the way that recruits are rated. Making weight and height matter in recruit rating. It seems like there's always a couple 5'7-5'8 Route Runners that are 5 Stars. Also, there needs more variety in recruits. It feels like, "Here are the Archetypes, and here are the range of how they are scaled." Which leads to a lot of same type of players with the main difference being stat caps. There's not enough archetype balance. For example, It feels like it's a lot more easier/frequent to find a plug and play Power RB than an Elusive RB. I can find a 3 star Power RB that has good abilities and 92-94 speed off rip.
I would still love a Recruit Creator. Even if it has to have a randomized Player Bio, custom recruits would bring more variety. I would love to create unique recruits and see how turn out. I would even create busts. The HWS guys that are scrubs
TIhere should be more Fog of War when it comes to recruiting. I always felt we shouldn't know all the key ratings. It probably probably should be letter grades. Maybe lock the player ratings behind Elite Recruiter abilityLast edited by illwill10; 04-05-2025, 07:31 PM.👍 1Comment

Re: Let's Talk Recruiting (CFB 25)
They are some small tweaks i would like to see done for next year. But overall I love the way it’s done for this year. This is coming off just losing 4 of my top 5 must have recruits when I moved up to 4* because I hadn’t invested enough in them.
A create a recruit feature in some way would be awesome that what you could fill in the gaps for the type of prospects you don’t see. I think a lot of people here would just create those people and not even go after themRetro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

It would be nice to see actual flips. Even if you have to earn the ability in the Elite Recruiter tab. One thing, I definitely want to see is them bring back the ability to set your Position Archetype Preferences. That would make a huge difference for me. That could allow the Recommended tab to be the filled with recruits you preferred and pipeline guys. Also, all HCs should have those Position Archetype Preferences in their coach profile. That way, whatever school they are at will target guys their preferred players and chance of guys that don't fit wanting to transfer out.
Most of the recruits I would create, I wouldn't even want to recruit. I just want create unique players and see how they turn out. The only difference from previous games would be able to control their star rating. I know it could be a potentially cheesy. Someone could create 1 star players that are actually 5 star players. But, It would be nice to create a 1 star player with Elite Dev trait. I would create a 5 star QB with good physical ratings, but with low AWR, low PRC, and Terrible Sense Pressure and Aggressive traits. It wouldn't be just being able to edit the ratings and traits, but also the Recruiting pitch Preferences and dealbreakers. I want to create a stud recruit, but he has an A Academic Prestige dealbreaker.Comment

I should’ve done this a long time ago. Makes recruiting so much better with how unintuitive the sorting is with this first release.
