I’m hoping the pure runner archetype is 3/4 star guys, not 5 stars. If you’re a 5 star guy who can run, you can throw, making you a dual threat. MAYBE 1-2 every 10 years or so like Tebow who is a pure runner who can’t throw. Just my two cents there.

I’m with y’all my biggest archetype want is the newton / Tebow style of runner which didn’t ex sit with recruits last year. If I have to I may just take off speed and add it to strength, trucking, break tackle this year around. Along those lines I wonder if we see different rating upgrades fall in spots this year as last year it seemed a bit out of place. Also manual progression has me hopefully on this as well
on Bordeaux’s video he mentioned “speedster wr” wasn’t the best wr build so that’s interesting. He also mentioned players in general weren’t as fast as true freshman. A potential big win as it was way to easy for 94+ speed at bunch of positions
i think he also mentioned the power HB build so I can’t wait to see more on that oneRetro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

I do like that recruits aren't coming in 94+ speed. That way they are given room to grow over the years.
As far as power RBs, the leaked archetype list showed Elusive Bruiser, North/South Blocker, and North/South Receiver. I would guess the best pure power RB would be North/South Blocker, but likely slowest. Based on the list. I'd likely only target Elusive Bruisers and East West Playmakers

I’m a sucker for speed. I try to build the fastest team I can. That said, I would love for elite speed to be more rare.
Also, power RB was worthless in ‘25. I just played a quick season on Heisman with PSU and Kaytron kept getting driven back on tackles. Watch a real game. His value is that he always falls forward.Comment

I'm definitely looking forward to Dynamic Traits. As long as it isn't as broken as it can be in Madden, Dynamic Traits could change how I recruit players. I was super Gem-Focused in recruiting because I wanted Impact Dev trait at minimum. But with Dynamic Traits, I can focus on attributes and build them up. I plan on focusing on Transfer Portal to start off. So, I can focus on 2-3 star players with upside that I can develop and go after transfers as immediate starters

Yea power HB’s definitely wasn’t worthless I would say there were too OP. Since even with 3* it was pretty easy to get 90 speed paired with 80+ trucking and break tackle. If you have a high downhill ability he breaks a lot of tackles. The receiving back was also my lowest it was better to move a deep threat WR to HB.Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

I can imagine Elusive Bruiser RBs might be a little OP. If you can find one that can get Shifty, Headfirst, and Downhill with 90 speed, that would be OP. Especially if you find a 5 star gem

I still Think elusive bruiser could just be a cute name for balanced. Then north / south blocker be a pure power back. As a hardcore run guy I can’t wait to see everything tied to them.
The best player I ever got was a 4* gem power back in my 2nd dynasty. I’m finishing up his career now in play the moments. My biggest regret in all of 25 was not had playing all of his career. Chase actually mentioned the guy in article as u posted about him here as he had 96 Speed as a power backRetro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

Once the dynasty deep dive drops, we should know all the archetypes. I have an idea of my preference based on the leaked list.

After spending way too much time thinking about I think they have just added 10 new archetypes. However, they have renamed a lot of the ones from last year. Then they have added a balanced archetype for a lot of the positions like QB (dual threat) HB (elusive bruiser), OL (well rounded) and maybe a tweak of S (hybrid). It appears like most of the 10 new have came from WR/TE/CB.
The QB is one I wanted to talk a bit about before tomorrow comes. They mentioned during the gameplay stuff Friday that they want to make pocket passers more useful so I'm curious how they will pull that off. They are right as so many people went with the scrambler archetype. I know I wasn't the only one that avoided ATH scramblers because how OP they were even after toning them done some.
Rumored QB Archetypes
Backfield Creator (renamed improviser ?)
IDK about yall, but This is one I used the least this past year. They had some mobility and I'm not against it I just went with the other 2. If not improved on i could see it being #4 again this year.
Pure runner (renamed scrambler ?)
The big thing they need to do here is tone down the arm strength. If you are getting a HS QB with 87 speed and 90's acceleration. Then he shouldn't have 90+ arm strength. I do think or at least hope we see some changes here. Bordeaux mentioned how players seemed slower as recruits. Even just the normal scrambler QB's were pretty good. I will say the QB position didn't seem to develop as much as others even with boost. We all agree hopefully we will see some power runner types as well
Pocket passer (renamed field general ?)
A hill I'm willing to die on is the best QB archetype to get was the faster field general QB's last year regardless of offense. Well not counting the cheese ATH scrambler I've got a pic I was going to post, but I can't connect to my portal. These were the 77ish speed green gems you would fine as they would almost always come with a lot of speed / elusiveness upside. The good thing this year is I wouldn't have to wait till year 4/5 to start upgrading speed. They don't have the option king so that hurt them.
Dual Threat
I think this is also just a cute way to say "balanced" which would be a good one to have. For the people that don't want the cheese or bad habits of a 90+ speed guy. It will be interesting to see what abilities come with this one and I could see it being a my top choice. Maybe the elite ones are like mid 80's for key stuff. I could def sign up for a balanced QB with upside and the ability to manual upgrade where I want. Also come with speed and arm abilities. -Pure Runners definitely need a limit on arm talent. I actually don’t mind high arm strength. But, I do want a strict cap on Throw Accuracy. Not even for the 5 star gems. At best, low 80s cap for THA for pure runners. I don’t see myself going after Pure Runners. I might keep one on the roster just for Formation Subs.
-Pocket Passers might be my preference now. I realized that if I have a 85+ speed QB, I get really bad habits. I do think there needs to be a cap on speed on pocket passers so that it doesn’t blend with dual threat. I saw as high as 84 speed. I would like 80 to be the cap,
-Dual Threats feels like the highest potential build. I would imagine if you line up potential 5 star gems of each build, I’d imagine that Dual Threat would seem the best just because it’s a balanced archetype. But with balanced archetypes, I could see the average build being mid. Where if I was going after two 3 star QBs I’d choose the other archetype over dual-threat if the other seems more plug and play
As you said, the ability load-out will decide things for me. I really want the new On-time ability because it incentivizes throwing with anticipation. I know Pocket Passers will have it. If Dual Threat has On Time, that might win me..
I have been trying to guess potential ability loadouts since it’s mostly the same abilities
Pocket Passer- Dot, On Time, Step Up, Sleight of Hand, and Field General
Pure Runner-Option King, Shifty, Magician, Ball Security, Mobile Resistance
BackField Creator-Extender, Magician, Sleight of Hand, Mobile Deadeye, Off Platform
Dual Threat-Ball Security, On Time, Mobile Deadeye, Magician, Off Platform
i know I’m definitely off, but that’s around the ball park for me

I'm with you guys. We need less speed everywhere in the recruiting pool. Far too many guys in CFB25 that were in the mid to upper 90's, and far too many above 90 in general, imo.
Also, far far far too many mobile QB's that had great arm talent. A mobile guy with a strong arm? Fine. A mobile guy with Favre's arm strength and Brees' accuracy? Felt like the norm with scramblers in 25. Outside of abilities there was no reason to ever think about grabbing a non-scrambling QB.
Hopefully there are a lot more raw recruits in general, significantly more raw QB's in general, and the actual dual threat that is a true threat with both his arms and legs is rare. Real college football has plenty of guys at QB that can move well but it doesn't have too many that are also able to throw with the best of them like CFB25 would have you believe. Your leading rusher QB's that weren't service academy guys like Dampier, Huff, Navvaro, etc. were all guys that were able to get 1,000+ yards with their legs, but they also were throwing for less than 200 per game, had ratios like 13 TD to 10 INT. Your true actual dual threats are not common at all and even a guy like Lamar Jackson who was an elite of the elite dual threats had weaknesses as a passer in college that he's improved on as a pro.
It felt like half the 3-star or better scramblers in CFB 25 were all as good as Lamar and recruiting QB's wasn't as exciting as it should have been. I'd like to see QB's(and all positions, really) increase in quality in a more non-linear way. Your 3 star guys should all be pretty average or have one strength countered by an equally as large weakness, aka the guy that can move but not throw well, the guy that is accurate but not mobile nor strong armed, etc. while the 4 stars get a bit better and as you creep towards 5 star status and the truly elite prospects, the quality ramps up. They shouldn't all be true elite dual threats or anything like that, but finding a guy that has elite accuracy and power should be rare, finding a truly great dual threat should be rare.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

I do think Athletes in general will be overhauled just because of the new archetypes
Last year, the base archetypes of ATHs were QB-Scrambling, HB-Elusive/Power, WR-Physical, TE- Possession , OL- Agile, DL-Power Rusher, LB-Run Stopper.
This year, I think we see new Athlete. ATH QB will likely be Pure Runner. ATH RB will likely be East-West Player maker and Elusive Bruiser. ATH WR will likely be Gadget. TE and OL likely the same as last year. DL/Edge is likely Power Rusher and Physical Freak. LB is likely Thumper.
One change I definitely want to see with Athletes is that I rather them show the top skills of the recruit, not just the assigned position skills. So many times, we see ATHs are listed with a position that isn't their highest rated. For example, of a AtH QB highest OVR position is a RB, then I would like to see RB ratings when I scout. I think this is something that NCAA 14 did better. I believe they showed more ratings with ATHs. The problem with only showing the listed position's rating is that we don't know if they're good at anything else. So, either show us all the ratings for ATHs, or just show an ATH's top 20 attributesComment
