Re: canes21 College Football 25 Sliders
The game is too fun and has me staying up way too late to play it. I've got 6 games in so far with 1.0. It's not a perfect set, but it still plays well and is an absolute blast to play.
Just to give an idea on how the sample size is going, here's the games played thus far. Warning, this is long, so spoilers for convenience.
Spoiler
Miami @ West Virginia - 17-24 loss
Miami vs Louisville - 34-23 win
Miami vs Virginia Tech - 31-35 loss
Miami vs Wake Forest - 20-15 win
Miami @ Georgia Tech - 41-24 win
Miami @ Notre Dame - 24-23 win
Very competitive games with some variety between the games. Incredible diversity with how each game has played and how momentum has flowed in each game.
Seriously, the variety has been crazy. WVU just killed me by 1,000 paper cuts in the 2nd half, Louisville and I traded blows until I pulled away late, VT pulled a nice comeback off, the Wake game was just pure ugliness, GT tried to keep pace with me but just couldn't, and the Notre Dame was an instant classic with me getting shut out all 2nd half until my final drive and then I held on to block their game winning FG try.
Offensive averages over that 6 game sample so far are:
- 6.73 yards/play - that would have been tied for 8th best in the nation last year
- 8.58 yards per pass attempt - that would have been tied 14th
- 68% completion rate - that would have been 12th
- 4.62 yards/carry - that would have been 31st
- 27.8 pts/game - that would have been tied 43rd
Note, the rankings above are for P5 + Notre Dame games only, so the cupcake games are filtered out, so this comparison is very apples to apples.
So, you can see the user offense isn't looking too far off. Miami's offense in game is rated top 10, almost top 5, so the yards/play being that high is on point. The yards per pass attempt are in a good spot given Miami has one of the top WR corps in the game as well. The rushing average is a bit on the lower side for a top offense, but the current roster is missing their starting C and as a result the depth chart is a little screwy and the interior OL is a bit weak. If he gets added in, the OL should improve quite a bit ratings-wise.
Scoring is a little low, but part of that is due to the slower pace that Miami operates at and I am replicating that in-game, part of it is the inconsistencies with the OL issues I mentioned above, and part of that is playing against teams like VT and especially ND who have high rated defenses. All of the individual game scores look good.
Offensively, I'm actually surprised at how good the stats are comparing to what you'd expect from an offense of this caliber when looking at recent years of real life statistics. I don't think but small adjustments are needed on this side of the ball.
Here's how the defensive side stacks up.
- 5.5 yards/play allowed - that would have been 38th
- 7.74 yards per pass attempt allowed - that would have been tied 64th
- 63% completion rate allowed - that would have been tied 73rd
- 3.24 yards/carry allowed - that would have been tied 17th
- 24.0 pts/game allowed - that would have been 29th
- 2 sacks per game for my defense - that would have been tied 58th
- 7.5 tackles per loss for my defense - that would have been 22nd
Overall, not bad for a defense that rates 84 overall. I'm not sure exactly where that puts them in game, but I feel like it's probably around the 25-40 range.
My biggest issues so far have been the lack of consistent success from the CPU's ground game and the lack of pressure from my pass rush. However, in real life last year, Miami did hold their P5 opponents to 3.75 yards per rush and the front 7 is supposed to be better this year and is rated pretty well with all 4 starters on the DL being 82-90 overall.
One caveat to that real life stat is that Miami was tied 34th in sacks per game at 2.5. So, only a half sack higher than what I am getting now, but that would have aided in their yards/carry ranking. I'd like to see my DL get a bit more pressure on QB's, which I can adjust with the sliders if need be, though 10 is already pretty low. And, I'd like to see more from the CPU ground attack, but I already have their run blocking at 100, so I'd have to potentially mess with the tackle slider and that could lead to other problems.
Still, given how Miami is rated and the collection of teams I have played so far in this sample, the stats align with real life really well and much better than I expected them to.
In game, Miami is rated as a top 10 offense with a top 10 passing attack and a top 10 RB with great tackles and a weakness at the C and LG spots. Their defense has a top 10-20 front 7 with an average to to slightly below average secondary. Given that, all the stats above are actually just about right on the money.
I'm happy with how accurate it all is to this point, but I know the sliders can be improved on and I already have some ideas on tweaks that I will make for when it's time to test v1.1, but until this sample is big enough, we'll keep grinding away test games on v1.0.

Enjoyed playing with these. Lost as Maryland 40-45 on the road against Boise State. Lots of penalties, which was kinda nice to see compared to NCAA 14. It's funny you are disappointed with the CPU run game. Every rush they had wide open gaps for me and could usually get 10 yards a carry. Will have to play more and see how they do. But definitely feeling better than default AA or Heisman. Keep doing your thing!Comment

I need to play a game as someone with a mediocre front 7 and see how it goes. If I get washed, I'll be very happy lol.

It seems a number of you all are seeing the CPU have a good rushing attack so that's only reinforcing to me that maybe Miami's DL is just that good in game.

Re: canes21 College Football 25 Sliders
Cover 4 and cover 3 are the base coverages and the base shell is cover 0. That's what I am in the majority of the game. Cover 3 and cover 4 shells are used very often as well.
Depending on what the offense is doing against me is what dictates how often I change things up. If the opposing offense is trying to stretch the field vertically, we run more cover 4 and cover 2 shells. If they are not stretching the field vertically and/or are coming out in more 12 personnel looks, then we mix in more cover 3 shells to bring that extra safety all the way into the box.
Being in cover 0, 3, and 4 looks and having the base defense be cover 4 and 3 leads to me having my safeties closer to the LOS, sometimes in the box, and at least 1 always looking to play the run first. That obviously helps my run defense out.
I do mix in cover 1 a decent amount throughout the game. Cover 2 man is often reserved only for passing situations, but I will mix it in on earlier downs, more often in games where my DL has a clear advantage over the OL and I can safely rely on the front 6 to hold their own. The Wake game was one where I had the talent advantage and could man up more often.
Given the alignment of my defense is already aggressive enough, I don't blitz as often as Guidry does in real life. I'd say I maybe blitz only around 20-25% of the time at the very most, but it may be less than that. I've not actually tracked it, but I feel that guess is pretty accurate.
Outside of the base cover 3 and 4 with the occasional cover 1, I also mix in the bracket/double team plays along with cover 2 and cover 6. Cover 2 is used more when I am getting backed up towards my own end zone or when teams are trying to stretch the field more horizontally than vertically. Wake was constantly running underneath crossing routes and going to the flats, so I mixed in more cover 2 that game to counter it. I use the split field cover 6 coverages to try and fool the QB every now and then while also still having the benefit of 1 safety watching the run action at the snap.
So, the base defense I am running with my scheme is one geared to slow the run game down, so that's obviously contributing to it. Like I said, the CPU will have some successful runs here or there. Georgia Tech had a 50 yard TD run on me and Notre Dame averaged 4+ yards on designed runs, but the vast majority of carries are being swallowed up quickly and given what many of you all are saying, I think I am starting to lean towards it more being my scheme I am running in combination + the DL's ratings that is slowing the run game down more than it is the CPU not having the capability to do so. If that is the case, awesome, it means X's and O's and ratings are doing their jobs well.Last edited by canes21; 07-17-2024, 09:52 AM.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: canes21 College Football 25 Sliders
Nice job on these. The only changes I've made is that I've reduced the quarter lengths to 11 mins and 15 second clock. I think this aligns better with the current sim stats - at the sacrifice of getting a lower than realistic amount of snaps. Hopefully this is something EA will fix, but I'm not holding my breath. I've also increased user runblock to 35 as I was averaging 2.1 YPC as UCLA... at one point against Minnesota I had 12 carries for -1 yard.
Will circle back with more feedback as I get more games in this weekend. Keep up the good work!Comment

I run the defense very similar to how Lance Guidry runs it in real life with our biggest difference being that I blitz less often than he does.

Re: canes21 College Football 25 Sliders
Just plugged these in and had a fun game. Playing as Minnesota in Camp Randall against Wisconsin. Down 20-17 with a little under 2 minutes to go. First and 10 and I gain 9 yards on a hb screen for the first play of the drive. I hurry it up and audible to a run. Just want to get the easy yard to get a first and stop the clock to move the chains. I did not notice that my team didn’t hear my audible while #7 hardest places to play is going crazy. Obviously I got sacked with no one blocking and me not expecting to be throwing another screen pass. Ruined the whole drive and I lost…..
Not even mad. That was amazing.
I had 17 first downs, 276 yards of total offense. 30 carries for 88 yards. 18/29 for 188. 4 penalties for 30 yards. My rushing stats look bad because QB was 4 for -29 yards. I actually had an 100 yard rushing back
Wisconsin had 21 first downs, 426 yards, 35 carries for 237 yards. 16/24 for 189. 11 penalties for 90 yards.
0 turnovers for each of us. They had 3 sacks I believe. I had 0. Think I only even had 1 QB pressure.
Very fun game. Obviously small sample size, but some concerns would be they had multiple stretches where they had 3 or 4 holding penalties in a row. And idk if this is the sliders doing it, but it was my understanding that wisconsin was actually more of an air raid team now. Obviously they were killing me the ground so I get running, but they weren’t really mixing in organic throws if that makes sense. I would bet almost 40% of the attempts came in the final 3 minutes of each halfLast edited by TuffJuff; 07-17-2024, 11:40 AM."Friends dont let friends be packer fans"Comment

Re: canes21 College Football 25 Sliders
I played last night with South Carolina come to Arkansas (me) I led at the half 17-14, but some costly mistakes, meaning trying to throw the ball into tight coverage and got picked off 2 times. I ended up losing 34-31. Both teams ran for over 150 and threw for over 250. It was solid. I dont want to win every game. Arkansas doesnt go 12-0 ever year and sometimes there is no team finish with a perfect record. I want real outcomes or as close as possible. If I take Akron in to Georgia the game should never really be close. In real life Georgia would probably be favored by 35+. But I will keep using these and see if the results come out as they should.Comment

Re: canes21 College Football 25 Sliders
1st game as Penn State against Michigan for a classic Big 10 Matchup, I chose to go with Penn State since I had the best feel for how they actually play considering I played against them last year in real life. I had fun...getting the crap kicked out of me lol. Score was 27-7 and AI adjustments at half is very noticeable. Michigan has a beastly defensive line who gave hell to Penn States weaker O line this year resulting in 5 sacks but we countered with 4 against them which seems a bit excessive but star rushers made up the majority of the sacks. 11 penalties and majority of them were block in the back which happened 3 plays in a row.
Also need to get used to the revamped passing but I definitely see the potential. The ground game struggled to get going (N. Singleton 14/49) but besides those concerns I had extreme amount of fun and saw some sick gameplay and both sides were able to produce realistic explosive college plays.
Also where do you guys see the stats for how many plays are ran in the game?Last edited by marjemulumba; 07-17-2024, 01:09 PM.Comment

Penalties are still a WIP for sure. I haven't actually seen many blocks in the back so far. Let me know if you keep seeing a lot of them because I'd be curious to see what is causing them to happen more frequently in your games vs mine.
So, to make things easy on you, if you ever want to see if there is an updated version but don't want to try and read through the thread, just check the first post. If there is a new version, it will be there.Last edited by canes21; 07-17-2024, 02:54 PM.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
