I'm in the process of trying to find the game at a reasonable price lol. I want to give this method a try. While you have skill level on All-American, can you still put recruiting difficulty at Heisman while using coach progression at Normal for these to work?

There is no "recruiting difficulty" for 14.

I definitely agree with you about looking at individual matchups instead of team vs team and not swerving when running, because I feel like you have to make a hundred moves if you want to break free on a run on Heisman. But if you need me to fo any testing just let me know!

I'm going to be honest....we've tinkered enough over the years. You look at the crazy slider sets people put out...and why? I've never gotten beyond year 3 of a dynasty. WHY? Because we were always tinkering and I don't even understand why anymore.

I'm putting this up here for one reason...because most people don't realize how good it is when you just leave it alone and play the game the right way. I want people to share their outcomes and just enjoy the game for what it is instead of shoving it into a sausage maker slider set where every game feels the same.

Josh...curious about your thoughts on taking the speed threshold back to 50. I believe in your last "default" go round you had it around 40 but everything else looks the same/default except the auto-strafe.

Everything just looks more "in sync" at 50 thresh. Changing thresh tends to subtract from ratings-based gameplay. My focus is on letting the ratings dictate outcomes vs biasing the gameplay to fit a particular mold.

It's good to have you back, Josh. Even though I play Coach Mode, I'm always testing your ideas out in CM. I'll be honest, I've never given Normal Coach Progression a fair shake. Also, Auto-Strafe off is new to me, so I'll be implementing that as well.

I've been playing with all default, AA for some time now. The thing I've been tinkering with a lot is Auto-Subs. At the moment, I have 65/80 on offense, and 60/80 defense (along with the Coach Progression and auto-strafe change). Liking what I see so far with animations and results. That's not to say 60/80 across the board isn't looking great as well. Would like to know if you have any thoughts on potential changes to auto subs in the future. Hope you're well, man!

Oh for sure, I agree that going all default (or close to it) is definitely the best option. When testing and looking at the individual matchups, should I see how a high rated player does vs an average/low rated player or vice versa? Or look for even battles when two players with similar ratings are matched up?

Doing well man, hope you are too.

I swore I'd never touch another autosub slider again...lol. It's SUCH a nightmare (it's two more sets of gameplay sliders on top of the ones called gameplay sliders). But I'll say this..I totally get what you're doing. I just haven't seen a reason to change anything.

Heck....I'm running games now with zero coach edits...just going with the OOB rosters and it plays great. I think I WILL settle on sub freq at 50 as the one global coach edit (which is embedded in the UMass dynasty I have going). But other than that, I think I'm good...

I'm not even trying to focus on anything and I see all the little nuances stand out. It's like the NCAA I wanted for 7 years...and never had because I kept trying to "fix" things. Just play and have fun!

My intention right now is to get all the way through year 6 (which is the first full season with completely game-generated rosters). I'm guessing the experience will be even more amazing then. I'm guessing that by time I get to that point...I will have seen anything and everything and will just keep going....

LoL! Yea, I've been going back and fourth on it for weeks/months now with the auto-subs. It's pretty crazy how much they change the game play in ways you wouldn't expect. But, that being said, I think I'll join you on the completely default quest (with 60/80 auto-subs across the board). My goal, too, has always been to get to season 6 to be able to use CPU generated rosters. But, as you stated, we all get to about year 3 and then reset. Hopefully the results are something I can take back to my thread for fellow Coach Moders. To which, I'll probably just link your thread if I see no changes needing to be made lol The handful of games I've played with your settings have been really promising.

                      50(ish) Threshold-based Slider Set for NCAA 14

Been absolutely enthralled in my 2014 Terps dynasty the last few days. I bought a used XBOX 360 couple years back just so I could continue playing this game.

I haven’t played in a couple years, but wow this game is honestly better than Madden 20 and it’s not even close. The only thing Madden 20 is head and shoulders above NCAA 14, is in their WR/DB animations. Besides that, NCAA 14 is pretty much the base for Madden 20 and plays very very similarly on the field. With one exception. NCAA 14 is way better at making mismatches actually stand out, so roster building is so key. Not to mention that NCAA 14 off the field is not only better than Madden 20, but IMO maybe the beat dynasty mode of any sorts game of all time. I may be biased because I love college sports and ESPN, but I feel like the attention to detail shown in this game is juts not seen anymore.

So far I’m only 5 games into my first year and every single game has felt so different. One game I can move the ball, next game I can’t. One game the CPU can’t run on me at all, next game I’m getting gashed. A great example of this is the CPU rushing for 275 yards one game, and then 50 yards the next. The best part is that it’s not RNG at all. It 100% has to do with the matchups. I’m gonna break down how each game went. We’re sitting at (2-3) right now.

Game 1 - RICE (27-17) L. This was a really fun game to start the year off. Rice’s defense was really good and I couldn’t get anything going on the ground at all. I definitely had a small learning curve game 1, getting used to NCAA 14 again. I also simulate almost all special teams because I rarely miss any FG’s if I don’t. My kicker is a 77 OVR (worst in the BIG10), he missed 3 FG’s all from 40+. Best part is he’s now 6/9 through 5 games, so he hasn’t missed again. Those misses definitely cost me this game and I actually loved it haha.

Game 2 - @ ILL (59-24) W. Totally different feel than game 1. My offense was on point and it was no surprise considering ILL has one of the worst defenses in the BIG10. This game was never close.

Game 3 - @ CUSE (41-30) W. This game was much closer than the score may indicate. We were actually losing 30-27 with only 0:45 left. It was a great back and forth game. I ran my first successful screen in 3 games on 3rd and 5 from the 15 to give us the 4 point lead with just under a minute left. Almost the every next play we got a pick six and sealed the victory 41-30.

Game 4 - RUT (35-32) L. Man this was a heartbreaking loss. We were in this thing the whole time but just could not stop Rutgers running game. Their #1 RB ended up with 255 yards on 30 carries. He broke a couple long ones and just wore us down all game long.

                      Game 5 - @WVU (24-17) L. This game felt so
much different than the first 4 and it was exactly what I was excepting. Coming into the game WVU statistically had one of the best defenses in the country and their OVR on defense backed that up (86ish). They were by far the best defense I had played so far and I only had a measly 3 points going into the 4th! I’ve never been shut down like that before. Not even close. Luckily I put a couple late drives together to make the score closer than it really was. I was down 24-3 with only 3:50 left. Best part was after giving up 275 rush yards last game, I only gave up 50 this game. Instead WVU was gashing me through the air. Taking advantage of their mismatches out wide.

Next game is @ #6 OSU (4-1). They are 95+ OVR in all three categories. This could be a real drubbing. Wish me luck.

This write up is amazing. It goes to show you how incredible NCAA 14 was and still is as a game. It was before its time and still holds up 7 years later. Josh's reinvigorated enthusiasm has me itching to play this game again and dive into the dynasty mode (I agree best dynasty mode/franchise ever).

Yes exact OP, did not change a single thing. Including coach skills and recruiting. Maryland is only a 2 star program so our first recruiting class is not looking so hot. Could be a long few years. Can you get fired?

Is there a way to make it so you can’t? It sucks when it takes you 5+ years to build a contender and then get fired when you start getting good haha.
