How many minute quarters should I play with if I'm using accelerated clock and what should I use for play clock runoff if I'm looking for real to life sim start total plays run?

I'm new to madden.

Can someone break down the Combine Grades and what stats they are for.

40 Yd Dash is Speed
20 Yd Dash is Acceleration?
Cone is Agility?

Also, is there a chart or excel that has compiled what ratings equal what combine stats?

For instance, 4.25 40 YD = 99SPD; 4.34 40 YD = 92SPD or 35 Bench = 90STR; 13 Bench = 60 STR.

I'm getting consistently shredded on defense by the pass game. Everytime I play the opposing QB, no matter who it is, completes 90+% of their passes and easily breaks 200+ yards in the first half.

I've tried playing as every position, audibles, adjustments, and still no matter what I try I get ripped apart.

Any tips or strategies to help this?

When you throw the ball to a receiver, an icon flashes with the recommended catch mechanism (aggressive, possession, RAC).

If I dont do anything, will the CPU catch the ball by default, using that mechanism?

So like if I want to do something else than the recommended mechanism, I push another button, but else I can just let the CPU do it for me?

Same issue for me as well. Admittedly, I'm a complete noob. The cpu is absolutely shredding me up in the MUT solo challenges. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I didnt do any of the tutorials, so perhaps this is an easy fix with time. If anyone has any pointers I'd appreciate them.

I struggled getting pressure with the DLine and making tackles behind the line of scrimmage. It was my first game, so I needed to work out some kinks, but I dont think I got one tackle with the defensive line the entire game.

I was the Jets as well, so I had a fanstastic DLine.

A lot of the other stats were pretty realistic. Manziel was like 11-20 for 160 yards 2 TD's 1INT(I let up two 70 yard TD passes, I'm still struggling to tackle well). Fitzpatrick was like 23 for 44 for 300 yards 2TDs and 1INT.

I enjoyed the new catching mechanic. I didnt find it too OP. I threw it up to Marshall a bunch in double coverage. They were just broken up passes, which I think is great, as throws like that generally used to get picked.

There were a lot more penalties, which slow the game down and I hate that, but its realistic which was nice. It makes you want to invest in high IQ OL so there are less penalties (I assume thats how it works).

I struggled running the ball early on, but once I stopped using the turbo behind the line I did a tad better. Plus Zac Stacy sucks and Ivory is criminally low rated in that game.

I took some bad angles in coverage, but I assume that is because I was pressing the wrong buttons when defending the pass. Playing aggressive when I was too far away to make a play on the ball, does that make a difference?

It works, but like everything else this year, it is highly dependent on the ratings of the players doing the contain.

In M15 it was not good to use the speed boost behind the Line of Scrimmage; in M16 it is key to getting separation in the backfield.

QFT!!!

This was screwing up my run game massively at first...for years I had to beat the impulse to speed burst behind the line out of myself...remnants from the old school Madden PS2 (and earlier) days.

In M25 and M15, I actually had gotten pretty decent at being patient behind the line and when I fired up M16 I started getting HAMMERED in the backfield before I could even make it back to the LOS...especially on Power, Off-Tackle and Toss plays.

Then I started trying to use the speed burst more quickly than I had become use to and I started getting better results...could be placebo (just getting better at controlling the players because that is really different from previous years too), but I went from averaging less than YPC and under 40 yards a game online to around 4-5 YPC and back to around 90-100 yards a game by using the speed burst and steering to get players to run into blockers more.

Seems to me anyway that the older games really made you pay by giving the defense a boost if you used the speed burst too early and that doesn't seem to be the case any longer to me...we'll see though with more time and a larger sample size.

I haven't seen a stiff arm animation yet. Did they take it out of the game?

Basic question - do you do Practice mode? If so, how do you utilize the mode the best?

I haven't played in quite some time. I've gone into practice mode to work on running ability, seeing holes, and getting familiar with blocking. Sometimes I'll pick a single play (Curls) and run that against multiple overages. I'll usually choose random play call for defense so that it's more 'game like', but even then it's not... Besides trying to do this for the entire playbook is time consuming.

Defense I'm not even sure where to start.

Use the skills trainer instead. Much more helpful then practice mode. Skills trainer really helps you get your timing down.

Still in the game. The timing window seem to be slightly different between running backs though. Probably ratings based, because with Lynch I had no problem firing them out. With some other RBs the stiff arm seemed to come out slower.
