Re: Madden 16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
I have been playing Madden for a long time, but have never used a lot of presnap adjustments on defense. My question for you more advanced gamers is:
1) How do you know what defensive pre-snap adjustments to make?
2) Is there any basic strategy I should be implementing on defense?
Usually i just pick a play and dont make any adjustments, but I know that I'm probably doing myself a disservice. It's just that I don't know what I should adjust to in certain situations. The only ones I have used are QB contain and Play the Sticks on 3rd and long situations
Here's a general overview of what I used the most and when I'd use them:
curl to flat - Common adjustment When I'm anticipating a curl route. I typically use it against trips to counter flood concepts and curls together.
Flat zone: Also a very common adjustment. This just makes the player go to the flat on his side of the field. I'd use this when I'm anticipating drags, flat routes, screens, out routes or just want extra QB contain.
Hook zone: This is very vanilla. The player just looks for players where he's standing. I may use this on a DT, when a player is mainly doing drags and hitting them as they cross.
Deep Zone: This is my less frequented. But I'd use it if I like a certain blitz, but I'd be giving up the deep pass because it's cover 2. OR if I want to get fancy in cover to and audible my corner to a deep zone and user my safety to cover curl to flats.
I can get into more specifics, but I think the skills trainer will give you a very good idea of all the adjustments.
I've been playing for years, and NEVEr used the cover adjustment overtop or underneath lol. Don't know if it really works, but whatever haha.Comment

Oh boy, this can get very detailed. I'd personally recommend doing the skills trainer for this. That way you can also get faster with it and make 3-5 adjusts before a snap.

Re: Madden 16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
Depends. The MLB in a 4-3 cover 2 drops deeper in a cover two hook zone, so he'll give up the slant if your OLBs get distracted. BUT he'll be in position for deep in routes (or digs)
Cover 2 and shading the CB inside would be your best bet.
If a person is abusing slants to one WR I'd user the safety and cut him off IF he runs the slant. He can obviously audible too once he sees you doing that.Comment

Hook zone is yellow.

What is the best base set/formation/alignment/playcall to stop toss?
I have not seen it stopped for a loss, its been instant offense in my games"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

One thing to do is try and guess what side the guy is going to run to and you can stop him for a shorter gain. When you "guess play", for the lack of a better term.Comment

4-3 wide 9 and making the DL crash in also works very well.Los Angeles Lakers, Las Vegas Golden Knights, Atlanta Falcons

Re: Madden 16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
Thanks for the tips
I use a 3-4 playbook (New England) that has a couple 4-3 sets. I can't add 4-4 due to my league rules but will try to keep guys spread out and have a cb on the outside when I feel toss is coming"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

I believe you can also use the QB Contain mechanic to have your DEs go wide to hinder outside running. But if you guess wrong you'll get thrashed.

Re: Madden 16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
Thought I would help some
#1: Cover 1 with the saftey down is a good start. Shift LBs or DL to the strong side. If they start running outside, try Nickle or CB Blitz. I even use Cover 3 with the saftey down just in case it's a pass. Since the defense AI does a lot of pattern matching it works well.
#2: If you have shutdown corners you can run man - Cover 2 Man works well. CPU usually won't challenge - or at least I've seen too often. User coverage is another option like mentioned to cover the common routes. I do this with Cover 3 and see they're trying 4 Verts. Leaves me open under for the RB, but not always. Coverage adjust to double team, but I haven't had to do that much as the CPU seems to spread the ball around.
#3: I think Man and 3 deep will be your best approach. Not sure if CPU AI will adjust and notice that you're always in passing situations, but those coverages should cover majority of passing downs and open up the option for them to run.
I guess I would pick a strategy though. Usually I start the game and see what their gameplan is. If they're running often I focus on stopping that most 1st and 2nd downs. Same if they're passing. Then you get more predictable situations and can usually call something that should defend.
Then you can start mixing in blitzes and other looks to "mix it up"...Comment
