@mrprice33, in regards to the new swat mechanic, is this a 'press and hold button' similar to 'play ball' and 'play receiver'? Or, is this a 'press the button at just the right moment to attempt a last second swat attempt'?

Rex said it had. I personally didn't try it so I don't know.

Rex answered, "With the direction gameplay is going no switch/no click on on defense will put you at a serious disadvantage."

Do you know if this disadvantage will only affect situations in Human vs Human games where the user is controlling a receiver...or will my defenders also be at a disadvantage vs a CPU team if I choose not to switch?
Wow, this is the most unsettling news I've heard so far. Does this mean that the CPU will now be at a disadvantage because they don't use these? Also, does it mean that I can turn any average DB into a Pro Bowler like you could in the past?

Mostly it's due to the catching system in place and the complexity of introducing re-targeting into those animations. They would likely be dice roll animations and I'm not sure that's how they want to do something like that.

There's an icing the kicker mechanic in the game but I don't know if I can talk about it yet.

Ratings weren't final in the version I played.

So now more gameplay info is out. I have a question id love someone to answer. In madden 16 it seemed the only way to get DPI was if an animation was triggered for it. While im very glad DPI is finally called in the game. There has been an issue all year that was never addressed.

From what you know of and played of 17 , can DPI or even Def Holding be called if a user controlled ( or even cpu controlled for that matter) defensive player get one of those called on him , for hindering the WR or TEs route they are running? Ive seen them stop WRs cold in their route totally, and ive seen them get in front of them just enough to stop them for a split second, enough to throw the WR far enough behind on route when ball is thrown , they cant get close to it. Here are just a couple of examples:

                          <iframe src="https://player.twitch.tv/?video=v55944624" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" height="378" width="620"></iframe><a href="https://www.twitch.tv/poohty?tt_medium=live_embed&tt_content=text_link" style="padding:2px 0px 4px; display:block; width:345px; font-weight:normal; font-size:10px;text-decoration:underline;"></a>

                          <iframe src="https://player.twitch.tv/?video=v55944926" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" height="378" width="620"></iframe><a href="https://www.twitch.tv/poohty?tt_medium=live_embed&tt_content=text_link" style="padding:2px 0px 4px; display:block; width:345px; font-weight:normal; font-size:10px;text-decoration:underline;"></a>

                          <iframe src="https://player.twitch.tv/?video=v55408990" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" height="378" width="620"></iframe><a href="https://www.twitch.tv/poohty?tt_medium=live_embed&tt_content=text_link" style="padding:2px 0px 4px; display:block; width:345px; font-weight:normal; font-size:10px;text-decoration:underline;"></a>

Now ive seen this with LBs, DBs both. Over the middle, on out routes, about anywhere. It seems as long as animation isnt triggered , the game refuses to call it.Has this been addressed in 17? If not they really need to take a good look at it.

I didn't actively try to do this but we had conversations with the gameplay team about penalties so we'll see what happens.

I'm not a strict no-switcher but I'm also not a strict user-control guy either and I didn't really feel held back one way or the other.

I only tried it holding and it worked just fine. I think you could try to make it more difficult on yourself by trying to time it, if you want.
