Re: I've played ~40 hours of Madden 17: AMAlmost Anything (Answers in first post)
apologies for this request but are they any simple diagrams and explanation of what pattern matching zone stuff actually is or does. i can understand the force and contain lbers but the rest is over my head. i should explain as this is not a native game i played at school here i didnt grow up with it. to give a guideline of my level of understanding, i only understood 10% of my Bill Walsh handbook...Comment

I've listened to the last couple of gamechanger podcasts and it sounds like that the NFL is quite controlling on how itself and the game is portrayed. We won't ever see off-field suspensions and they don't want contract hold outs in the game. Basically anything that actually happens irl but tarnishes the super squeaky clean image that they want.Comment

Basically, the idea is that instead of playing zone defense where the zone defenders play an area, they shift their coverage on the fly based on certain rules and progressions of their coverage, which is dictated by the route being run.
At its most basic, any vertical route/stem is automatically treated as if the defense is in man. Here's how the coverage is impacted by 4 verts:
This is a cover 3 look that essentially converts to cover 1 with a robber zone, just based on the routes being run.
This will also help you against certain routes that were surely cover 3 killers in 16:
Take a look a this diagram, which demonstrates how this coverage would handle smash routes:
Now, what happens when routes don't go vertical?
If the slot receiver (S) were to instead run a slant or a cross, the free safety would have a different responsibility, while the B and M linebackers (specifically the M, I believe), would be in charge of handling that crossing route.
You can see the difference here, in how it handles the "Drive" concept:
Notice how the M linebacker has dropped down to cover the X receiver crossing across the formation?
As that play progresses, the player with curl/flat responsibilities (likely the FS), will aggressively come down once the RB crosses his face going out into the flat. This is again automatic and the help against the dig and cross is already built into the coverage.
It's a really cool way to play defense, and I'm very excited to see it in the game. We'll discuss it more once the coverage blog comes out.Last edited by mrprice33; 05-26-2016, 07:52 AM.Comment

M16 there was a noticeable tone down of the hit stick, a lot more shoulder tackles and wrap&spin type tackles... which is how the NFL wants it to go with programs like "heads up tackling". I agree with your statement re concussions, it's an axe over their head so they probably don't want to advertise that concussions happen in their game.

Player discipline? NFL said nah.
Madden, by rule, has to be the most pristine version of football there is.Comment

Which is why the game lacks life especially in cfm. Imagine having to determine if you're gonna take the clearly more talented player with off field/suspension concerns or the squeaky clean guy who is less talented.Comment

Unfortunately, there's no fix for this, I fear.Comment

Yeah, I miss the days of the old ambulance coming onto the field for an injured player. And, when the ambulance came onto the field, it would RUN OVER MORE PLAYERS!!! Lol. I don't think the NFL liked that, from what I recall in some forum/blog I read awhile ago.

We need a Grand Theft Madden. Rated Mature version of Madden with wife/child beating players. Possible yearly suspensions. But, if u hire a good enough lawyer, u can get it lowered to 4 weeks. Lol. NOTE: I do NOT condone wife/child beating, I am simply using them as a satirical example from real life NFL situations.

Re: I've played ~40 hours of Madden 17: AMAlmost Anything (Answers in first post)
Not sure if this has been asked already, but do all 22 players on the field use true step?Comment

Re: I've played ~40 hours of Madden 17: AMAlmost Anything (Answers in first post)
Madden usually has a three year plan for things. True step first came to fruition for Madden 25 (year 1), then possibly more work done for Madden 16 (year 2). In other words, going by their 3 year plan, will we see the "final" product for True Step finally get properly implemented to each and every single one on the field? Madden 17 will be year 3 for "true step" implementation. If not, does that mean Madden's talk about 3 year plans are now really 5 or 7 year plans?
Note: "True Step" should honestly be priority number one above all other gameplay concerns on account of fact that it deals with footwork, in turn, affecting accelerating, deceleration, speed, agility, movement, running routes, defensive back coverage, defensive backs ability to keep up with receivers, OL's true ability to block the DL, DL true ability to rush the passer, etc. etc. etc. etc. True step should theoretically eliminate motion shifting, and warping if it works as intended.
If a defensive player gets beat, physics and true step would prevent him from motion shifting, sliding and warping to make the tackle. If the offensive lineman gets beat by the defensive lineman, physics and true step would prevent the OL from motion shifting, slding and warping to make a magical recovery block.
True step can't be held back for all 22 players on the field because offensive and defensive formations or plays don't work properly if 'true step' is implemented right? One should respect how the "formations/plays" play out with 'true step' and 'physics' put into place for everything on the field is my wish for Madden.
Bottom line question: When will we see "true step" fully implemented for all 22 players on the field? (Might as well include referee getting "true steps" as well.)Comment

The deep balls may or may not be harder to connect on, but it's not because of the physics. The physics only come into play when the ball makes contact with a physical object on the field, whether it's the player or the ground.Comment
