Re: Madden NFL 17 Developer Q&A Confirms Formation Subs Included in Day One Patch
This is great news, folks.
All one needs to do is listen for the hints the development team gives in June or throughout the year.
Clint mentioned with continuous improvement formation subs and defensive matchups were items the community wanted the most.
He didn't promise anything, but appeared hopeful.
Is defensive matchups down the short road?
Hopefully, and this is a big thing. But they have indicated numerous times that it was way more challenging than it seemed. But maybe some of that leg work is done through formation sub technology?Comment

Re: Madden NFL 17 Developer Q&A Confirms Formation Subs Included in Day One Patch
Another bit from the vid was that the last gen versions of the game get the coach tendencies from ncaa. Which means you can tell your defense for example to play agressive and go for a strip. They said that last hen got this feature because it's easier to port over from the last gen essentially. As happy as I am for the additions to the game I also want continuity from the game. Another feature that can be used in the game but is not developed for the current gen.

Re: Madden NFL 17 Developer Q&A Confirms Formation Subs Included in Day One Patch
It doesn't looks clear on the photo, but it will make a difference if the subs are listed purely as formations, or whether it will be choosing scenarios?
For instance, if set up for scenario, I might want a run-stuffing LE on 1st and 2nd down regardless if it is 7 man front, nickel or dime but a speed rusher to come in at LE on 3rd downs. If setup purely for formations then when I call a nickel play with a formation sub on 1st down, my speed rusher be brought in the game... which would be annoying.
Could be negated if there is the playbook information is easily accessible in CFM which shows what plays are setup for 1st, 2nd and 3rd down etc.Comment

They also said they are going to add it to the current gen version in the future and add increased functionality to it.

I have been irritated that wasn't part of the game for a while now. I am totally stoked they were able to get this in. Big tip of the cap to the madden team.
Thanks for listening and responding to us.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 17 Developer Q&A Confirms Formation Subs Included in Day One Patch
Would be nice to get an answer to this. I don't really want to do a 32 team CFM but if that's the only way to use formation subs for the CPU then I guess I'm going to have to do it.Comment

I don't see how you would do it otherwise, tbh

Re: Madden NFL 17 Developer Q&A Confirms Formation Subs Included in Day One Patch
The image that Rex posted last night actually is somewhat worrisome when it comes to custom playbooks. In the image it says you can change your playbook in the coaches section. Well, last year, if you used a custom book you could not select it from the coaches screen. You had to select it in the pre game menu only. If that stays the same this year, custom playbooks will not be able to have formation subs.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 17 Developer Q&A Confirms Formation Subs Included in Day One Patch
You can't access other teams depth charts, injury management, scouting etc unless you create a coach or owner for said team. I don't see that mechanic changing.
I am really pleased this is finally back in Madden. Long overdue. No doubt I am doing a 32 team Owner CFM and setting up formation subs for all 32 teams so I can get highly realistic RBBC situations, slot WR usage other than specific playbook plays which the AI may not call as often as others. The proper LB's/DE packages for pass rush and running situations etc. This will make the games even more competitive vs the AI.
A great idea for a thread this season is a Master Formation Sub Set Up Thread where we can have a central place for key formations subs we should be making to every team so we can enhance and make the most authentic offline 32 team CFM experience!!Now Playing on PS5:
