Curious why we can't jump up to bat a pass down with our D-Linemen/LBs while engaged at the line.

    We could previous years.

Man I hate when they take things out of games.

Enjoying the game so far. Finally started up a Browns Franchise so it was a challenge right from the start. Enjoy the whole special teams focus this year, already had a couple of kickoff returned against me. That never use to happen. Still alot more features too see, but so far it is fun.

For all the hype about it, every single game had the exact same commentary as every other game, just in a different order. Sometimes stories were repeated multiple times in the same game. The stories also run on way too long without getting cutoff, and then it results in big plays without excitement from the play-by-play. It's just bad, or at least the color commentary aspect of it is very bad. And, in week 17, I had a perfect chance for them to show off some real CFM-specific commentary as my Bengals were tied with the Ravens at 9-6 and playing for the divisional title. Not one single mention of that. But, luckily I did get to hear about how Charles Davis hated playing against experienced quarterbacks a couple times, like I heard from weeks 1-16. I ended losing the game, but making it as a wild card team. The playoffs were more of the same, with no real playoff-specific commentary. (Also more of the same, was that the Bengals(me) got bounced in the first round, haha) Hopefully they can improve upon it with the updates, but the only positive thing I have to say on the commentary right now is that I'm glad I don't have to listen to Phil Simms anymore.

I'm going to sum-up my gameplay impressions pretty quickly: It's good enough for me to keep playing for a little bit. There are a lot of problems, but it's keeping me going for now.
I agree on the commentary. They've improved it exponentially, but IMO, for long term CFM players, it's simply too repetitive and decidedly lacking in CFM specific content. This isn't a Madden specific problem, it's just the reality of the limitations of the hardware, software and resource availability for the sports gaming genre.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. There have been some much needed improvements, but in the end it's still a very flawed game. For me this is a probably a game that ends up collecting dust in a few weeks. It's already getting stale.

Really disappointing that the sack fumble stats not showing up correctly hasn't been fixed yet. Doesn't seem like something that would be too difficult to patch, maybe they're waiting to combine it with other fixes. I thought it was just the sack not being registered, but it also doesnt even show that u forced a fumble (fumbles forced stat column)

After two drives in a row where dropped passes were called fumbles that I can't challenge I want to launch this game into the sun. What's worse is the booth reviewed one and still called it a fumble so the game doesn't even know NFL rules. There's some good stuff in here but there's so many little things that are broken or off its like death by 1000 paper cuts.

I got a bad impression of practice squads thinking that there were just generated names on that squad, but no. They are actual NFL players signed to teams currently

Really happy with the game, plays much smoother and more realistic. I'd like to have seen some more depth added to the scouting but that's about the only grumble really.

                    Re: Madden NFL 17 Impressions

I usually only play MUT but one thing that irks me is how the cpu just abuses underneath throws to the Runningback. It's like they won't throw or force pretty much any throw unless it's wide open. Not always but way more often than not they do

I've got to the point where when I call zone coverage I just make all my defenders look for over the top routes and I'll hot route my fastest DE to man cover the back and since the back just sits there most of the time after his route is done it works. It's probably cheap but I get sick of the back being the top targeted guy or near top target guy all game

Another thing that makes me mad is how when I'm on offense and the defense is in man to man the defenders magically know when to turn around when I'm throwing to a underneath Wr they are not even looking at or when I take off and run with my Qb they still just do a 180 even though again they are not even looking at me

                      Re: Madden NFL 17 Impressions

I'm an offline franchise guy. I love the new defensive zone assignments. Anything that makes outcomes on the field more realistic, varied, and organic, I'm all for.
Between the lines, the game plays better than last year, with more organic outcomes in the passing game and running game.
The special teams changes have been a welcome addition as well.
I'm glad to see the return of Formation Subs, but it's incomplete and for the most part unusable for an offline franchise player.
I'm only a few games into Franchise Mode, but I like the addition of practice squads, though I'd like to see the addition of a 46 man active gameday roster.
Overall, I think Madden 17 is better than Madden 16, which is to be expected.
                      My biggest complaints are:
                      1) too many glitches and design issues have to be worked around in Franchise Mode (still alot of gameplay slider adjustments for an attempt at a sim experience, intensive studies required of the community about XP Sliders to get players to progress realistically and keep the league talent level in a realistic range after a few seasons, etc). I understand that no sports game will please everyone on default sliders, but the devs should look at the aims of the sim community (true to life probabilities and outcomes in every aspect of the game) and make a "Sim" preset and a preset that represents what their default settings have been in the past. It's more appropriate for a dev to get under the hood and tune the game for a sim experience than for the community to have to reverse engineer a sim experience.
                      2) Playbook issues. The legacy issue of custom audibles not sticking and some playbooks that don't match the team's scheme, and/or aren't used intelligently by the CPU (see Armor and Sword's create a coach workaround in his All-Pro slider set).

I'd love it if the devs would freeze working on any new features and get these things ROCK solid for Madden 18:
Make Formation Subs more complete and glitch-free. Allow them to work in concert with packages within a formation as well as with fatigue, custom playbooks and injuries. This could be helped by a positional depth chart WITHIN each formation.
Fix the legacy issue of custom audibles not saving (esp. in custom playbooks).
Make the CPU playcalling more intelligent and varied.
                      Make CPU punting less erratic.
Make sure wind direction works properly and allow the user to make an informed decision about which quarters he wants the wind at his back. With the current interface, it's hard to know what you'll get as far as which goal you'll be defending/if the wind will be at your back or in your face in the 2nd and 4th quarter.
Continue to fill out defensive zone assignments (add Cover 2 read, Quarters, etc) to the point that spot drops are a thing of the past or at least optional.
Finish defensive run gap/responsiblity assignments (make it for all 11 defenders).

As much as I love this game, I have played over 20 games and am not exaggerating when I say that I have had a QB sack fumble happen in all of them. I've even turned the fumbles down to 25 and still no luck. Worst part is, is half the time the QB's arm is CLEARLY going forward, but you aren't even allowed to challenge it. Will this ever be patched? Really makes the game feel scripted

Thing is, there is a very specific time at which that happens, and to avoid it you simply have to either bite the bullet and take the sack or make your decision sooner. You won't convince me it's ever undeserved; and since it's always deserved, that's pretty much the exact opposite of scripted. It's happening a lot to you now likely because you've gotten accustomed to getting away with holding the ball longer than you should. We're only talking about a split-second here; make the adjustment to your play instead of thinking sliders will save you from yourself.

Has anyone won a challenge? I had 2 challenges that I should have won, both times my rb clearly crossing the goaline before his knee hits the ground, but the game didn't recognize this.

The weird thing is after one of these failed challenges, the commentators talked about the call on the field being overturned even though it wasn't.

I agree with this 100%, I've only had this happen to me once to be honest, and I am by no means a madden star, in fact my offence has been struggling, but getting the ball off in time is everything. Not seeing what everyone is complaining about. Just an FYI, after last night Tannehill has 4 fumbles in 4 games now.

I am convinced challenges don't work. I actually 'won' this challenge, where the wr caught the ball but was out of bounds. I didn't lose my timeout, and the commentators talked about it.

But despite this, the game still gave the ai a first down at the spot where the wr caught the ball out of bounds anyway.
