People on AVS forums go nuts over HDR but to be totally frank I think a lot of it is psychological. The differences in most HDR content are very subtle. There have been a lot of times that I didn't even know if content was HDR until I compared it with non HDR version.
I compare nba 2k18 in HDR and Madden, and it's not even close. I can't disagree more about it being psychological... Nba 2k18's colors look amazing, Madden is washed out.

The colors are in no way washed out. But each to their own.

This is Madden running in HDR Standard or Bright all I'm asking for is for me to be able to achieve this look on HDR Game Mode without sacrificing detail.

You know that LG (I think that's what you have) makes game mode darker in HDR, right? Rtings.com says they did that by design. I ended up staying in game mode because the input lag is so much better.

When NON HDR looks better than HDR, we have a problem.. I'm not the only person saying this, but like you said: to each, their own.

Slightly more vibrant and I'm happy with that. My field under those settings @ Pit, 1pm, clear look somewhere between both of your pics you've posted.

Also, I even Googled Madden 18 graphics and looked at all the images released by EA leading up to release and not a single field is that green, including Pit. I also looked back at the Photographic thread here on OS and not a single one of those stunning pics has a field that green.

So in conclusion, considering DaReals pic was taken off screen, I just believe it was the camera used that has it appear that green. Unless there is something to it...
I don't know if this has been answered but the field isn't supposed to be that green. You can turn the In game contrast to highest and your tv's dynamic constrast all the way up and you'll get an overly saturated picture.

I'm talking about well calibrated HDR vs well calibrated SDR. Watch something from the YouTube hdr channel on an HDR source and then an SDR source. Sure it looks better but not by a lot

I have the same in game settings. What's your tv's dynamic contrast set to?

The only problem is most people aren't used to the darker darks that HDR mode utilizes and they say it doesn't look as good because they like a much brighter picture. With HDR you will get a greater variance in contrast, from brighter brights to dingier and darker darks...people see dingy darks and think their picture is "messed up".

We see this with new technology all the time, when people get something different from what they expect they say it's hosed but they just are seeing something they're not expecting.

Dynamic contrast = High. I have backlight and contrast maxed by default on HDR material. Note, I do use a custom color source.
I did a lot of calibrating based off of Planet Earth 2 and 4K HDR vids on YouTube (Mainly HDR channel). Everything looks fantastic and meets my expectations and the definition of HDR. There are a couple of Xbox games that are an exception including Madden 18 imo, but I was mostly able to alleviate that by adjusting in game contrast to "Higher".

I believe its the way some games are coded, that's what I believe. Somebody on this thread claims that HDR doesn't really need any calibrating, he lost all credibility when he said that!

The greens in that pic are highly inaccurate though? They're like neon green - that isn't what HDR is supposed to look like?

It's supposed to look natural - that's a grass field by the way.

You shouldn't be using PE2 or 4k HDR videos off YouTube to calibrate. I'm assuming you're eyeballing it? You need a meter to do that otherwise yes everything you touch outside of that video will be off.

Man no wonder your colors are so out of wack as you say.

It's not my settings or tv, its the game. This is HDR Game the pic enhances it and brightens it up some and makes it look great though. On my tv it's like a film or something. 20170920_221746.jpg
