Re: Create Your Own Scenario [Scenario Suggestions]

Scenario Name: Brinks Truck aka Straight cash homie

Scenario Overview: Your Franchise QB is due for a new contract, his stats (OVRL) have him in the top 3 QB's in the league. He simply wants to be the highest paid at his position setting a new bench mark.

Trigger Criteria: A QB with a top 3 OVRL in the league with at least 1 MVP award and or Superbowl win/appearance. Or the Highest OVRL QB in the league without any MVP or Superbowl win/appearance.

What Happens?: Wants the highest amount of salary for his position.

What Is Tracked: OVRL, MVP award, Superbowl win

What Happens: If he meets the criteria he will not budge on taking less and will test free agency.

Additional Notes : I wanted to include all players like WR's , LB's, Saferty's and whatnot but I'm not sure how this would work with say the best "player in the league" demanding to be the highest paid in the league. I can see how it can work but also I can foresee some DEFINITE cap/free agency issues. I don't know if this can cause a bug if all players who are rated 99's can demand to be the highest paid simultaneously one odd year, ya know?

Re: Create Your Own Scenario [Scenario Suggestions]

      Sophomore Slump

Scenario Overview: A player should always aim to improve, even after a great rookie season. If a player doesn't show improvement through year two, and instead shows decline, the player is having a Sophomore Slump. From here, a choice needs to be made by you, the Coach: Take a risk and challenge the player to improve, or play it safe and accept the players struggles.

Trigger Criteria: This scenario only effects 2nd year player's that were labeled "Great Rookies" in their first season. The player at least needs to have been top 5 in OROTY or DROTY voting to qualify as a great rookie.

If the player doesn't have at least 45% of certain important positional stats from their rookie year by the 9th game, Sophomore Slump is triggered.

      Examples:
      Baker Mayfield rookie stats - 3725 YDS, 27 TD's
      • Mayfield must have at least 45% of these stats by the 9th game which is 1676 YDS, and 12 TD's. If he has under these numbers, Sophomore Slump is triggered.

Darius Leonard rookie stats 111 Solo Tackles, 12 Tackles for loss
      • Leonard must have at least 45% of these stats by the 9th game which is 50 Solo Tackles, and 5.4 Tackles for loss. If he has under these numbers, Sophomore Slump is triggered.

What Happens?: There is a 1 on 1 conversation at the start of the player's 9th game with the coach and player discussing the Sophomore Slump. You can either take a risk and challenge the player or play it safe and accept it.

There are two different options for a Coach to choose from in this scenario:

      Option 1: Challenge the player
Selecting this option challenges the player to have a great 2nd half of the season and have better important positional numbers than the season prior. Potential risk taken.

      What Happens:
      • Player gains 10 morale because of your confidence in him.
      • If the player succeeds: Slight OVR boost for the player
      • If the player fails: Slight OVR decline for the player

      Option 2: Acceptance
You've accepted that the player is having a down year. No risk taken.

      What Happens:
      • No XP gaining for the rest of the season. The player will have the same OVR going into year 3.
      • Player loses 10 morale because of your lack of confidence in him.

      What Is Tracked:
      • 45% of important rookie year stats.
      • Total important sophomore year stats through 8 games.

These are then compared and if the sophomore stats are below the rookie year stats, the scenario is triggered.

Additional Notes: All percentages, stats, and week/game numbers are hypothetical. There are many different ways to track if a player is having a Sophomore Slump, this is just the way I chose. Also, variables like how many games a player played their rookie year need to be taken into account.

Re: Create Your Own Scenario [Scenario Suggestions]

        Make a splash signing

Scenario Overview: The team has money to blow this offseason, it's a great chance to make a splash in free agency and sign a star. Doing so could motivate the entire roster next season.

Trigger Criteria: Have more than $70 Million Dollars in Free Cap Space going into Free Agency phase 1.

What Happens?: The team owner meets you in your office prior to Free Agency Phase 1. He tells you that it's time for the team to land a star free agent. He believes the roster will be motivated to win next season if a big name star is added.

What Is Tracked: Sign a FA under 29 years old and above 85 OVR. The player cant be a punter or kicker.

        What Happens:
        • Team popularity boost

        • Every player's morale receives 5 point boost

        • Player's positional group (QB, RB, WR, OL, DL, LB, DB) receives 1 OVR boost

Additional Notes: This is extra but it would be awesome to have the scenario continue if the free agent is a bust. This could be similar to the "Sophomore Slump" scenario that I also posted.

        Thanks for reading.

Re: Create Your Own Scenario [Scenario Suggestions]

          Scenario Name:
Did Someone Turn the Heat Up?

          Scenario Overview:
This a coach on the hot seat scenario

          Trigger Criteria:
This scenario begins when you're at or below 2 wins entering week 9.

          What Happens?:
Owner sits you down and says, "We expect more from you and the team. Going forward I’d like to see you turn this ship around and get this thing headed in the right direction." You’re given two options: promise .500 going forward(Goal 1) or .500 on the year(Goal 2).

          What Is Tracked:
          Wins are tracked moving forward.

          What Happens:
          • if you meet Goal 1, you keep your job, your team gets a +10 morale boost and you as a coach unlock the XP bonus trait for practice or the in game bonus, I forget. If owned already you get the equivalent XP.
          • if you meet Goal 2, you keep your job, your team gets a +20 morale boost and you unlock the XP bonus trait(or Equivalent XP) and 4500 additional coach XP to potentially get a few positions practice boosts or one main position like QB.
          • If you fail any goal, you lose your job.

          Additional Notes:
I thought about adding a 3rd promise, Decline all and walk away from the job until the off-season hiring process commences. I was also thinking of making it tied to the coach goal set at the beginning of the year instead of a set record. IE, if you chose 7 wins and you've only won one or two games by mid-season this could also trigger with the season goal as the benchmark. I also thought about adding legend bonuses. Worried about team morale as I don't think it carries over to the next year but could be beneficial if you make the playoffs somehow. Could also trigger a "team entering the playoffs on a hot streak scenario".

            Diva Dilemma

Scenario Overview: Your superstar WR is disappointed by the lack of targets in the last few games. Something needs to change or he'll demand a trade.

Trigger Criteria: The scenario is triggered when a WR above 90 OVR has under 10 catches from the last 3 games combined.

What Happens?: The WR comes to the coach's office and you have three different options to choose from:
            • Promise a bigger role: You promise to give the player more of an emphasis in the offense.
              • Entire team Morale stays the same
            • Don't promise anything: WR immediately demands a trade.
              • Entire team Morale 5 point boost. However, entire team morale decreases by 1 every week he is on the team because he is toxic in the locker room.

            • Bench the starting QB:
              • WR's morale increases by 20, the rest of the team's morale decreases by 20

            What Is Tracked:
            • WR must have over 20 catches over the next three games to achieve goal

            What Happens:

If you Promised a bigger role:
            • If the goal is achieved, the WR's morale increases by 20, if it isn't it is decreased by 20 and he demands a trade. (Team morale decreases by 1 every week he is on the team because he is toxic in the locker room)

Additional Notes: The commentators should reference the dilemma in game, CFM News hub should have different stories depending on how it plays out.

Re: Create Your Own Scenario [Scenario Suggestions]

*Michael Jackson voice* I love this song! So many great ideas already. Okay. Here's one inspired by my team's recent habits:

                  ...And It Feels So Good

Scenario Overview: Player X is ecstatic about getting to play with his old college buddy.

Trigger Criteria: During the offseason only, sign, draft, or trade for a player within 2 years of experience (either way) of another who graduated from the same college. Example: If [Player X] is a rookie in 2019, this can be triggered in a subsequent offseason by acquiring another player from the same college with an NFL entry year as early as 2017 and as late as 2021.

                  What Happens?:
Base - Morale boost +10 for both players until at least week 8 of the regular season, and longer as long as team record remains above .500, with bonuses for other criteria. These include:
                  - Same unit: Both played offense (QB/RB/WR/TE/OL) or defense (DL/LB/DB): Larger morale boost
                  - Same position: Larger, longer morale boost.
                  - "Peas in a Pod": Two rookies from the same school. The jitters of new surroundings are alleviated by the presence of a familiar face. Morale floor (won't drop below a certain level) and EXP boost.
                  - "The Old Combo": QB and WR/TE/RB from same school, within 2 years of each other and the first three years of either's career. Morale + XP bonus for both, increased chance for dev trait advancement.

What Is Tracked: As mentioned before, the colleges, positions, and experience (NFL entry year) of each player.

What Happens: Perhaps a sizable morale penalty to the remaining player if one is cut, traded, or gets injured. And, of course, if two guys are at the same position, they could be subject to other scenarios involving targets (in WR case in particular) or depth chart position.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                  Freshman 15

Scenario Overview: The training staff thinks Player X could do with some more lead in the seat of his pants to better deal with the rigors of the league.

Trigger Criteria: Player under contract as of end of draft (includes drafted players that year), entering age 23 or younger season. Chance of triggering increases the further below average for height and position that the player's weight is at the trigger point.

Simple YES/NO decision leads to possible outcomes:

Optimal: Player gains between 3%-6% of body weight, gains 1-3 points of strength and 3-5 points of INJ/TGH. Other key positional attributes may also increase (PRS for DBs, TAK or POW for defenders, TRK/SFA for RBs, CIT for WRs) according to what 'makes sense' as an in-game reflection of a player's increased physical strength. Morale is also boosted, reflecting a player's increased confidence in his body going into the following season. Regular season stats are now tracked with the chance to jump a dev trait level at the end of the year (up to Superstar only).

Awkward: Player gains between 3-6% of body weight, 1-3 points of strength and 3-5 points of INJ/TGH. But to reflect the adjustment period of a new playing weight, morale drops by a few points and the player must hit certain statistical thresholds during the preseason to feel good about it. Hit the thresholds and morale jumps. Fail and it takes a further hit.

Suboptimal: Player gains between 3-6% of body weight and 1-3 points of strength. But he feels overbulked and his body isn't adjusting well to the gains. AGI and ACC drop (as does perhaps MCV for DBs, RR stats for WRs), and even INJ/STA may take a hit (players who are carrying too much weight, even if it's not 'bad' weight, can be more susceptible to injury). Achieve certain preseason stat thresholds and the morale/ratings drops are undone - no further bonuses, though. Fail and they remain until the end of the season.

(User rejects weight gain program): If player does not meet level 1 season goals (those are still a thing, right) or gets injured, massive morale drop, chance for a dev trait regression as he becomes

What Is Tracked: The average weight for a player at a certain height and a certain position archetype, age and ratings of players, preseason statistics.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                  Special, Not Specialist

Scenario Overview: Your offensive/defensive coordinator sees potential in [Player] beyond his sub-package role and wants you to give him a chance to see if he can handle the workload

                  OR

[Player] has been thriving in his specialist role, but thinks he can contribute beyond being a part-time player.

Trigger Criteria: In-season, highest chance to trigger is during team's bye week. Player not listed as starter on "OFFENSE/DEFENSE" screens but is on "SPECIALIST" page; 3 OVR points below listed starter at his "official" position with same, lower, or unconfirmed (rookie) DEV trait, up to 4 OVR points below listed starter at "official" position if DEV trait is SS or SSXF. Must have been under contract the previous season and received less than 60% of total snaps.

                  What Happens:
Expand Player's Role: "Starters" suffer morale penalty due to the prospect of their playing time being eaten into. Subject player receives morale boost, and then potential XP rewards at end of 4 games if player has played a certain number of snaps and met certain stat thresholds. If player fails to meet stat thresholds or gets injured, morale drops. If player fails to meet snap thresholds, morale drops catastrophically and could trigger a permanent morale hit and trade request the following offseason if player is still under contract, or a refusal to re-sign if the player is entering FA. (Think Duke Johnson with the Browns)

Keep Player's Current Role: "Starters" Morale rises slightly from feeling like their jobs are safe. Subject player's morale and XP gain rate drop but, INJ is increased by 4 and key attribute for specialist role (one most heavily weighted in determining specialist role rating) increases by 3 points until the season is over. If he is above a certain OVR, however, this could trigger a refusal to re-sign or trade request depending on the player's contract status.

Been working on this for most of the day. Got quite a few here, but plan to do more. Didn't even touch the Regular Season yet, and I also want to come up with more "User Initiated" Scenarios. Sorry if any I post are similar to something already posted. I've read everyone's post, so I know there are a few that are similar to something already posted, but I figured I'd throw my interpretation up anyway. Most of these are for the Draft, as that's my favorite thing about the NFL, but hopefully I'll come up with some more later on.

                      Suspension:

I am not sure how this would be triggered.

Somehow being able to suspend players for issues they are causing qith the team. I am not sure if suspensions would be possible, but I think could be a great addition.

Re: Create Your Own Scenario [Scenario Suggestions]

                          Scenario Name: Regain my trust

Scenario Overview: A kicker has been on a cold streak

Trigger Criteria: Can trigger after a kicker has multiple misses in a game (PATs and FGs) or has a low percentage over the course of the year

What Happens?: The special teams coach approaches you and says that we should look to free agency for a kicker. He has lost his trust in the current kicker and feels this is the best approach moving forward. You then have the option of:
                          A) putting your faith in the kicker and persevering, giving him a chance to regain your trust.

                          B) Signing a kicker from free agency and cutting the current kicker

What Is Tracked: Performance of either kicker over the next 3 games

                          What Happens:
                          For choice A)
When the decision to persevere is made, the kicker receives a small morale boost. If he does not miss a kick over the next 3 games he receives a bigger morale boost and an XP boost. The rest of the team also receives a 10+ morale boost

If he does miss a kick during the next 3 games he has massive morale drop, all players on the roster also have a negative 10 morale drop.

                          For option B)
When the decision is made all the roster has a negative 5 morale drop. If the new kicker is 100% over the next 3 games everyone including the kicker receives a 20 plus moral boost.

If the new kicker misses a kick over the next 3 games he has a massive morale drop. The rest of the roster drops an further 10 morale points.

                            Similar to this but negative.

                            I LOVE CHEESEBURGERS

                            Scenario Overview:
A player reports to the preseason overweight and out-of-shape.

                            Trigger Criteria:
Trigger would require a combination of traits potentially. Initial thoughts would be the combination of High Motor and Predictable traits and possibly having the player coming off a statistical regression year. Player traits will provide the largest indicator, followed by productivity. Ideally there would need to be a mismatch between the player's ratings and role versus the production on the field. For example, top 10 rated running back finishes 20th in yards for the previous season.

                            What Happens?:
Coach or Owner is notified that player X has reported to camp very out-of-shape. Message to the player that they need to prove they are ready for the season by proving their commitment during the preseason games. Coach issues statistical goals and benchmarks for each preseason game. If goals are met, player returns to original weight and ratings. If goals are exceeded, player ratings could increase before the start of the season. If the goals are not met, weight and ratings are now permanent.

                            What Is Tracked:
Based on the positional goals, for every productive preseason game (RB as example: >4.0 YPC) the ratings will normalize.

                            What Happens:
Player weight increases and athletic measurables decrease in ratings (SPD, AGI, ACC, JMP, etc.) substantially prior to the first preseason game. This will be the floor for the player.

                            Additional Notes:
The preseason performance could also be on more of a sliding scale, the better the player performs the quicker the ratings return and increase. RB example again, the minimum would be 4.0 YPC but if the player averages 5.0 YPC and 1 TD over the first two games that would cancel out the initial rating losses in two games in place of three or four. If the goals are not met there could be the added possibility of yearly regression added.

Re: Create Your Own Scenario [Scenario Suggestions]

A couple practice squad themed scenarios.

                              Scenario Name: Trust the Process

Scenario Overview: The coach/GM has an open roster spot and must decide whether or not to fill the spot from the practice squad or from free agency/trade block. If the team promotes a long time practice squad player to the active roster. The rest of the practice squad players have a renewed feeling that their hard work will pay off which comes with a strengthened drive and work ethic at practice.

                              Trigger Criteria:

-This scenario could be prompted by a few different triggers:

-At final 53 cut-downs this scenario could be prompted. It would in that case apply though to players who were on the practice squad for a significant amount of time (8 weeks?) last year and we’re retained over the offseason.

-Any time a player is cut or put on IR this scenario could be triggered as long as there are players on the practice squad who have been there for 8 weeks or more.

                              What Happens?:

A coach (assistant coach if you’re the coach, head coach if you’re the owner) approaches you about either final cut downs (at the cut down day trigger) or about a newly available roster spot (when a player is cut or placed on IR). The coach explains that there are X amount of players (however many have been there for 8 weeks or more) who have put in a lot of time and hard work on the practice squad. The coaches have worked with them a great deal and see their potential. The coach urges you to consider trusting the process and filling the roster spot from within using one of these PS players. (List of PS players who have been there 8 weeks or more)

You also have the choice to check free agency or the trade block (if it’s before the trade deadline).

What Is Tracked: Amount of weeks spent on the practice squad. Must be 8 or more consecutive weeks, which includes the prior year if the player was on the PS and then retained on the preseason roster.

                              What Happens:

-You choose to sign a PS player to fill the roster spot. This leads to a large morale boost for that player, a medium morale boost for the rest of the PS, and a small morale boost for the rest of the team (they like to see one of their PS teammates make the team rather than an outsider). These morale points are reversed if that player is cut at any time in the current season. In addition, for the next 8 weeks as long as that player remains on the 53 man roster, the entire practice squad gets an XP boost - they are working harder because they realize their hard work may be rewarded. On the down side, you did not select what may have been a superior player from free agency or via trade.

-You choose to fill the roster spot from free agency or via trade. You have the freedom to choose from the higher caliber free agency pool/trade block to fill the roster spot. There is no penalty, but you do not receive any of the morale or XP boosts that you would have gotten if you had promoted a PS player.

Additional Notes: I think the practice squad in Madden, while a good feature, is a bit stale. Players progress extremely slowly if at all, and I often forget about the players I have on there by the middle of the year. In addition, NFL teams usually have a purpose behind the positions represented on the practice squad since they may recruit from there in case of injury. In Madden, I rarely pay attention to the variety of positions on my PS because if there is an injury I’m usually finding a replacement from free agency. A feature like this would make me consider the makeup of my PS a lot more since I’m now incentivized to promote from within - so I better plan accordingly to have a variety of positions available.

                              ____________________________________

                              Scenario Name: Practice Squad Warrior

Scenario Overview: A member of the practice squad has shown an outstanding work ethic and has been making great strides in practice. The coaches feel that he could build on this development if given a chance to increase his role.

                              Trigger Criteria:

The trigger for this scenario would be random chance (probably fairly rare, maybe on average once every 1-2 years), though it would make more sense if it happened in the middle portion of the year (not too early, not too late).

                              What Happens?:

A coach (assistant coach if you’re the coach, head coach if you’re the owner) approaches you about a standout practice squad player. The coach tells you about this player’s unique drive to constantly put in extra work and effort at practice. As a result this player has seen impressive developments in his talent. The coach says that while the player is succeeding on the practice squad, he would do even better with the increased coaching and training on the active roster. Also, word is getting out about his impressive performances on the practice squad. He might not be safe there for long.

What Is Tracked: Not much, perhaps just the roster status of each player. Maybe the longer they’ve been on the PS the higher chance that this scenario happens to them. This could also apply only to players who have the “high motor” trait. (This would also incentivize players to seek out “high motor” practice squad players, which adds a whole new criteria to consider for the PS.)

                              What Happens:

First, regardless of the decision: the player receives an increase in his development trait and a small overall boost (maybe 1-3 points).

-If you choose not to promote the player to the active roster, his development trait increase will be only temporary: it will remain increased for the rest of the year, but will then automatically return to to normal at the end of the season. In addition, there will be an increased chance that he will be stolen off of your practice squad by another team (due to the word spreading about his performance at practice.)

-If you choose to promote the player to the active roster (and if he remains on the roster until the end of the season) then his development trait increase will not be temporary, it will remain increased (though it could still decrease later due to any of the normal development regressions that can occur). The player will experience a significant morale boost and receives another small overall bump (1-2 points) due to the new coaching/training focus. However, you must now cut a player (unless you already had an open roster spot).

Additional Notes: This scenario is based on Steven Means (former Eagles, current Falcons DE) and Joe Ostman (current Eagles DE) who were/are both known as extremely high motor practice squad players. In an interview, Eagles 2x Pro Bowl RT Lane Johnson credited Steven Means above all others for Johnson’s high caliber performance due to Means’ unrelenting effort against Johnson in practice. Joe Ostman has reportedly been impressing coaches in a similar manner, with a number of articles highlighting that fact. This is also similar to the story of “Rudy”.

Scenario Name: He's not ready yet

Scenario Overview: A high draft pick is selected, however your coaching staff believe he is better sitting and learning to start his NFL career.

Trigger Criteria: This triggers in week 1 of the regular season after a 1st or second round draft pick is selected with the following:
                                - Highest overall on the roster by up to 3 overall points
                                - Rated between 65 and 75 overall
                                - The second highest rated player at that position has 5+ years NFL experience

What Happens?: Your coordinator comes to you and suggests that this player isn't ready to start. He points out that the veteran at that position would be the better choice for the start of the season. The scenario could vary where sometimes he suggests to sit the rookie until week 8 or the entire first season to allow him to learn from the veteran.

                                You're given the choice of:
                                a) Sit the rookie as suggested and have the lower rated vet start for the designated amount of time
                                b) ignore the coordinator and start the rookie

What Is Tracked: The depth chart positions are tracked throughout the period

                                What Happens:
Option a) the rookie has a small morale boost, however at the completion of the designated time receives a big xp boost (bigger that what would be earned if he played) and if their dev trait is star or less they receive an increase to the next level up

Option b) no real impact, an opportunity lost for a Dev increase and XP boost.

Additional Notes: In the even that the veteran got injured the rookie would receive a pro rate amount of XP but no Dev increase
