        “Give me the ball”

Option comes on for offensive Skill positions who think you’ll win more if they get the ball. Happens if your team is .500 or worse by mid-season.

If the player sees a 20% increase in usage, and the team wins, everyone gains morale, player has negotiation chip for more money.

If the usage increases, team continues to lose, player happy, teammates morale stays the same or decreases.

If player sees no increase, team continues to lose, player increased % hold out next season.

No increase, team starts winning, team morale increase, depending on personality type player conforms and is team first, or is still upset and loses morale.

Players then earns personality trait of “team first” or “Me first”

          “Bad Fit”

Happens when a player is in a bad scheme fit/system.

If a player isn’t in the correct scheme for too long, he will voice his frustrations. He’ll lose out on max potential, lower dev traits and regress.

It’s simply tracked by matching coach scheme to player scheme.

This would make player feel more real, more specialized, and more important to build a roster correctly. Few players can play any scheme.

The same thing should go for coaches with QBs that don’t fit their scheme, should be labeled like Jeff Fisher, knowing your QB will never max out ratings wise.

This would reduce the amount of 4-3 LBs player 3-4 OLB, the difference in certain types of safeties and DTs playing out of position etc.

I personally would love to see this one. Maybe my main concern with the scenario engine is too many ways to improve your player. I want to see more like this breakingbad to balance things out a bit. We all know how often things don’t workout in the NFL so we need more scenarios to represent that.

              Scenario Name:
              Madden Cover

Scenario Overview: Congrats, one of your star players was just named to be the cover athlete of this years Madden NFL game.

              Trigger Criteria:
              • The player must be top 5 in Offensive or Defensive player of the year voting
              • Needs to lead his position in an important stat
              • The player's team must be a playoff team
              • The player can't have been on the Madden Cover before.

What Happens?: The scenario occurs after the NFL Draft in the Offseason. Your player tells you the news.

You can respond with "That's awesome, you earned it." or "Make sure you're staying focused on the season."

What Is Tracked: The criteria mentioned above.

              What Happens:
              • The player goes up a Dev Trait
              • The player's legacy score goes up
              • Team popularity boost

              Depending on how you responded:
              • If you responded with "That's awesome, you earned it.": 10 point player morale boost
              • If you responded with "Make sure you're staying focused on the season.": 5 point awareness boost

Additional Notes: Your player being on the Madden cover should be referenced by the commentators. The cover itself should be generated each season and viewable in the news tab.
              • If multiple players meet the criteria, the cover athlete is randomly chosen with a bias towards Offensive players.
              • If no players meet the criteria, the highest qualified player in MVP voting is put on the Cover.

                  Scenario Name:*Player Holdouts

Scenario Overview:*Disgruntled player(s) decide to approach ownership about their contract situation.

Trigger Criteria: Very productive season by young veteran player(s).

What Happens?:*Player(s) have conversation to discuss a new deal, talks move forward or stall.

What Is Tracked:*Player is on the inactive list until a deal is done.

What Happens:*Contract talks move forward to a new deal, player holds out, or player asks for trade.

Additional Notes:*The longer it goes unresolved, the more it affects the team morale.

                    Retire A (Insert Team Here)

                    Scenario Overview:
An aging unsigned player heading into the offseason offers to take a home-town discount to stay.

                    Trigger Criteria:
This would be a regressing player heading into the offseason without a contract. Player would probably need to be in a backup role with the team going forward.

                    What Happens?:
If the user releases or does not negotiate a contract with aging veteran heading into free agency, the player’s agent offers to negotiate a lower salary based on his clients desire to retire with his current team.

                    What Is Tracked:
Regression and age. Ideally the role with the team would also play a factor. Unlikely to occur if still listed at the top of the depth chart.

                    What Happens:
If a contract is negotiated, there is a boost in morale for all 4+ year veterans on the team. If the user still decides to move on from player, there will be a drop in moral amongst veterans.

                    Additional Notes:
Would be nice if Madden could implement roles/expectation much like NHL or The Show in regard to player morale. First round picks for example are typically expected to start and this could help with CPU depth chart management. Also makes free agency more interesting if player X will be a #1 on Team A vs a #2 on Team B.

                        "That's Not My Quarterback"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • Dealing with an underperforming quarterback, the team reaches a crossroads wherer they must decide whether or not to continue with the struggling player and risk losing the team or changing the course with a new face.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Underperforming quarterback over multiple games

                        What Happens:
                        • OC comes to you saying that there’s rumblings in the locker room that [QB1] is losing the team and if things don’t change and if he doesn’t start performing immediately, he could lose them for good.
                        • Similar to the above, you wouldn’t make a decision but would have goals to meet over a certain time period and based on how you did with those would dictate the impact on the team. Some examples of potential requirements/goals:
                        • 3 Wins
If 100.0+ Passer Rating: +++ OFF morale ++DEF Morale
If >100.0 Passer Rating: ++Team Morale
                        • 2 Wins
If 100.0+ Passer Rating: ++ OFF Morale +DEF Morale
If >100.0 Passer Rating: +Team Morale
                        • 1 Win
If 100.0+ Passer Rating: + OFF Morale
If >100.0 Passer Rating: --OFF Morale -Team Morale
                        • 0 Wins
If 100.0+ Passer Rating: ---OFF Morale whenever he is the starter
If >100.0 Passer Rating: ---Team Morale whenever [QB] is the starter (i.e Team has completely given up on him)

                        What is Tracked:
                        • QB stats to trigger the scenario and then again during the challenge period in addition to team wins.

                        Additional Notes:
                        • Somewhat similar to the Team Turmoil scenario above where it’s more of a challenge scenario but with the added caveat of giving you the option of making a change.

                        "Matchup Nightmare"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • Middle of the road player heads into the week with his matchup being significantly better offering the opportunity to step up and put his name on the map.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Significant OVR discrepancy in player matchup (WR1 vs. CB1, LT1 vs. RE1/ROLB1)

                        What Happens:
                        • Kind of a combination of the X-Factor and Breakout scenario. Would be a one-week thing and provide an opportunity for a player to prove himself and receive a variance of potential rewards/outcomes.
                        • Idea is that the lower rated player is expected to get eaten alive by the significantly better player heading into the week so going into the game maybe he has a few different objectives with rewards tied to them based on achievement. Example: 90 OVR WR1 vs. 75 OVR CB1
                        • Hold WR under 50 yards: + DEV trait
                        • Hold WR to 3 receptions or less: 2 skill points or XP bonus
                        • 100 yards receiving or 2+ TD: - DEV trait

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Depth chart positions and OVR.

                        Additional Notes:
                        • This one would probably have to be limited to positions where matchups are more straight up like WR-CB, T-DE, etc.

                        "Clutch Factor"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • A player proves themselves to continuous come up big in clutch moments earning themselves the Clutch ability

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Player comes up with multiple “clutch” moments in a single season.

                        What Happens:
                        • This would probably be a more under the hood scenario that you wouldn’t realize was there unless you triggered it which I think would be pretty cool.
                        • As far as dialogue goes it could consist of a coach (or beat reporter) coming to you and commenting about how time and time again [Player] has come up clutch with a generic response about how it’s always nice to have players like [Player] that step up in big moments.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • This is probably a very hard one to track but whatever would be considered “clutch” moments for a position.
                        • QB: Game winning drives
                        • DL: 3rd down sack when leading in mid-to-late 4th quarter.
                        • LB: Forced fumble (that results in TO) in 4Q of a one-score game
                        • CB: INT in the 4Q of a one-score game

                        Additional Notes:
                        • Offers an interesting chance for players that aren’t superstars to earn an ability. One issue is that the clutch ability helps players enter the zone and stay in the zone easier so it’d probably end up having to be some sort of ratings boost instead.

                        "The Big Game"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • A crucial matchup or big game between two teams with the ability to change the course of each other's season.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Upcoming game where you and your opponent feature very good records (WK11: 9-1 Chiefs at 9-1 Rams) OR late season game with playoff implications (WK14 PHI@DAL, WK15 LAC@KC, WK17 TEN@IND)

                        What Happens:
                        • The dialogue I’d like to see around this is just simply notifying you of the importance of the game and something along the lines of the game having the potential to shape the rest of your season hinting at positive impact if you win and negative impact if you lose. Maybe instead of this being a text exchange it’s simply a link to a story with a headline and short caption about the upcoming game.
                        • Following the game your reward or penalty will be based on how well or poorly you did as well as your current position moving forward so a game where you lose but are still in control of your own destiny will hurt less than one that knocks you out of the playoff picture.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Team records and playoff position. Margin of victory/defeat in the game. Record and playoff position/outlook following the game.

                        Additional Notes:
                        • Commentary to accompany this would be huge and really emphasize the difference and make the game feel more impactful. One issue franchise has had is that each game feels the same from an environmental standpoint and you never really get that “big game” feel.

                        "Preseason Cut Suggestions"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • Coaching staff comes to you suggesting players you should keep or release as well as release but keep on practice squad.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Reaching the cut down period during preseason

                        What Happens:
                        • I’m thinking about the situation you always see on Hard Knocks with all the coaches in the meeting room and the position coaches going over players and what they bring to the table. In this case, a coach would come to you saying that a player should have a spot on the roster, be outright released or kept on the practice squad.
                        • Having the player make the 53-man roster would likely come with a morale boost.
                        • If following the coaches recommendation and keeping a player on the practice squad, the player could earn a weekly XP boost or maybe a DEV trait boost as long as he’s on the practice squad.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Roster size. Cutdown days.

                        Additional Notes:
                        • Wouldn’t mind seeing a situation where initially you were given the option to either keep or cut (since practice squad players have to clear waivers in real life) and if you chose cut even though you might want him on your practice squad, it created a branching scenario where it went from talking with the coach to talking with the player and, if cut, he may refuse the practice squad spot with your team.

                        Rest Your Starters

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • Team has locked up all they have to gain in regards to the playoff picture and has the option to rest their starters.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Clinched playoff spot with nothing left to gain (Clinched home field, clinched #3 seed, etc.)

                        What Happens:
                        • Coach/Beat reporter comes to you saying that you’ve got everything locked up and can’t improve your playoff position and ask what the plan of attack is for playing your starters this week.
                        • Options could be as basic as ‘Play Starters’ and ‘Play Backups’ however what I think would be cool is having three options of ‘Start Backups’ along with ‘Play Starters 1 Quarter’ and ‘Play Starters 2 Quarters’ which would basically treat the games exactly like preseason which may be easier from a mechanical standpoint.
                        • Outcomes could vary from a morale boost for the starters to maybe something like an AWR penalty for the 1st quarter of you next game to emulate rust if you choose to play a full game with backups.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Playoff position

                        Additional Notes:
                        • A good contextual scenario that can save not only users but the CPU from suffering unnecessary injuries prior to the playoffs.
                        • Also creates a bit of tension if you’re in the playoff hunt and playing a team like this and you don’t know whether the other team is playing their starters for the whole game or just a quarter or half.

                        The Offseason Injury

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • An unexpected injury suffered during OTA's, mini-camp, and/or Training cap, etc.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Pretty much random during the offseason following the draft.

                        What Happens:
                        • Hunter Henry, Ryan Tannehill, Teddy Bridgewater, Jason Verrett, Daryl Williams, the list goes on and on of significant (and insignificant) players that get injured every year during offseason activities.
                        • Dialogue could include a simple message notifying you of the player, injury and length of injury along with some options to stand pat or go to free agency or the trade block.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Nothing really. Maybe injury rating but this would be pretty much random.

                        Additional Notes:
                        • This would clearly have to be something that would have an On/Off setting as some people would absolutely love it and some would absolutely hate it.
                        • The question is probably “wouldn’t that be really frustrating?” and the answer is, to a certain extent, yeah it would be frustrating. But at the same time it’s kind of supposed to be and the intent here is to be more realistic and pose you as a user to face more situations that force you to adapt on the fly and make new decisions based on what’s happening around you. There’s going to be bumps in the road, it’s all part of the journey.

                        "Practice Intensity"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • Looking for answers, a team on a losing streak ponders the option to right the ship with a potentially brutal week of practice.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Losing 3+ games

                        What Happens:
                        • Let’s say your team is on a four game losing streak and you’re trying to break out of the slump so you have the option of how intense/physical practice is going to be that week.
                        • High Intensity: Higher risk of injuries, potentially bigger boost to gameplan bonuses + increased morale. Other side would be if someone was injured, a big hit to team morale.
                        • Normal Intensity: Practice as regular. Bonuses are normal. Slight chance of morale boost or morale hit but would lean more towards everything staying normal.
                        • Low Intensity: Taking it easy. No chance of injuries. Again slight chance of morale boost or hit heading into the game.
                        • Additional branching element to this could be based on how you perform during the game as well. If you choose high or low and win the morale boost or hit will be larger because you look smart. Get blown out and it’ll be a huge hit as you risk losing the locker room.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Losing streak

                        Additional Notes:
                        • This one would likely be more down the road. I do think regardless of scenarios, injuries in practice should be possible and this would be a good way to build off of that.

                        "Revenge Is Sweet"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • Player released, traded, or let go is facing his former team looking to make them pay for not believing him in.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Player who played for upcoming opponent last season

                        What Happens:
                        • Dialogue would include player coming to you mentioning how he was on the team you’re facing next last season and how it’s important to him to show them why they failed by getting rid of him. Also could include him telling you that nobody will be more ready than him going into the week.
                        • Effects could be something like him receiving a larger than normal weekly boost or just a really high morale boost for that week.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Teams played for in the past season

                        Additional Notes:
                        • I think these “one-off” scenarios that only have a one game impact and are contextually appropriate without much outcome or reward would be nice to mix in with the more typical, decision making scenarios.

                        "Nemesis"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • A player develops a knack for burning and coming up big against a certain team.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Multiple “good games” or “clutch moments” against a specific team.

                        What Happens:
                        • After a player has multiple good games/clutch moments against a certain team, he earns a Nemesis ability meaning each time he plays that team, he earns a morale/ratings boost for any week where that team is his opponent.
                        • Dialogue could be treated similar to the X-Factor scenarios where a coach or reporter comes to you mentioning how [Nemesis] has burned you more than a few times over his career and how you plan to stop him.
                        • Could maybe pull from FotF and have the player himself directly message you trash talking about how he’s going to eat you for lunch just as he as in games past.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • “Good Games” (would have to be classified benchmarks by position. I.e. 3 sacks for DE, 100+ rtg, 300 yds passing for QB, etc.) and “clutch moments”

                        Additional Notes:
                        • Offers the opportunity for some abilities unique to franchise mode

                        "Square Peg, Round Hole"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • Player who is not a scheme fit is upset and wants to play elsewhere where he feels his full potential could be realized.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Non-scheme fit player is on roster for a certain number of games/seasons

                        What Happens:
                        • Player comes to you saying that he’s unhappy with his role on the team and that he doesn’t feel like he’s going to reach his full potential playing in a system that he doesn’t fit well.
                        • Alternative approach could be a coach coming to you telling you that [Player] isn’t fitting into what you’re trying to do schematically and it might be best to move on.
                        • From there, you’d have the option to put the player on the trade block or release them. Another option could be if they’re in the last year of their contract, you commit to letting them hit free agency in the offseason which essentially acts as withdrawing negotiations.
                        • If you put the player on the trade block, their morale will remain steady and delay any morale hit for the time being however if he’s not traded within a week or two, a steady decline in morale will begin to commence and deteriorate. If you release the player, that will be that and any effects would depend on the player’s status with the team. If you commit to letting him go at the end of the season, his morale will remain unaffected as there would be “light at the end of the tunnel” so to speak.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Scheme Fits as well as how long a player has been on a team without being a scheme fit.

                        Additional Notes:
                        • I would limit this to more conflicting scheme fit situations like 3-4 OLB’s in a 4-3 defense and Man/Zone corners in a conflicting scheme. For positions like QB or WR where scheme fit isn’t as relevant, it’s not as necessary IMO.

                        "Rookie Holdout"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • A rookie draft pick decides to holdout for a better contract missing offseason activities as well as preseason.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • Essentially random but would be limited to first round draft picks

                        What Happens:
                        • Following the draft you’d get a scenario where your GM would come to you informing you that negotiations with [RD1 Rookie] aren’t going well and that it doesn’t look like he’s going to be available to play during the preseason.
                        • Player would then be unavailable for a possible period lasting anywhere from a couple preseason games to maybe even a couple regular season games.
                        • Upon the scenario ending, the rookie would have a large hit to stamina along with some sort of injury rating hit as well to emulate them being out of shape and more injury prone. These hits would gradually improve back to their normal ratings over time once again to emulate them getting back into football shape.
                        • Player could also come to the team with low morale to emulate frustration over negotiations.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Draft Status as this would only really apply to 1st rounders. Could also be connected with draft stories of players with off-the-field or attitude issues as well.

                        Additional Notes:
                        • Probably would have to be a scenario with an option to turn off but creates an interesting dynamic that is out of the users control makes for an interesting early season storyline and drama surrounding when the player will be available as well as decision making when it comes to how to handle the player upon his return with the hits to stamina and injury rating.

                        "It’s Not You, It’s Me"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • A player realizes during preseason (or regular season) that things aren’t working and requests his release from the team.

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • A player not reaching a certain threshold of snaps per game over an extended period of time. Also could be a player very low on the roster (i.e. WR6, FS4, etc.)

                        What Happens:
                        • During the preseason the player (or his agent) comes to you saying that he feels like things are working the way he envisioned them and that he/his client would like to be released.
                        • Same thing could happen during the regular season where the player comes to you about how he’s not getting his opportunities and where he stands on the roster or at his position likely means he won’t be getting them any time soon either and he’d like to be released.
                        • From there, you have the decision to release him, put him on the trade block or try to convince him to stick around and that you’ll get him involved.
                        • Releasing him could grant a morale boost to the team but that doesn’t really make sense so I was thinking something like granting a Re-Sign influence package at the position he was released from to emulate trust from players because of the good conscience move.
                        • Putting him on the trade block could be a “Serenity Now, Insanity Later” situation where it holds him over but as time goes on his morale starts to increasingly decline.
                        • And then the final option would be similar to the above where you convince him to stick around and his morale remains steady but if he doesn’t see a snap increase, his morale will start to rapidly decline. Also with this option he could decline and just reiterate his desire for release.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Roster position and snap count. Possibly scheme fit (non-scheme fits would trigger this scenario faster). Once the scenario triggers, snap count if you’re able to keep him around.

                        Additional Notes:
                        • You see this situation a lot in the preseason with players that are looking for an opportunity to make rosters and realize once camp starts that they’re not getting reps/snaps and want to go to a place where their chances are better.

                        "Hostile Environment"

                        Scenario Overview:
                        • Team heading to a notoriously tough place to play faces adversity

                        Trigger Criteria:
                        • When playing on the road at predetermined hostile environments or tough places to play (CenturyLink, Arrowhead, Superdome, etc.)

                        What Happens:
                        • This would be more of a contextual scenario where maybe the beat reporter comes to you talking about how hostile the environment you’re about to play in will be and how you plan to prepare for it.
                        • From there, it could just be a standard back-and-forth with no decision or maybe it does give a decision to practice as normal or blast music all week with the potential of lowering any negative effects.
                        • What would happen is that players that didn’t reach a certain benchmark or threshold on certain things would be negatively affected. So let's say you have a rookie or second year QB with below 75 AWR, his accuracy ratings would take a hit and his play art would be shaky a la NCAA. If your starting left tackle had below 75 AWR, his penalty trait would increase. If you had a younger WR, their CTH and CIT ratings may take a hit with the idea that they’re rattled and more prone to mistakes.

                        What is Tracked:
                        • Predetermined stadiums that are decided to be “hostile environments” or tough places to play.
                        • Benchmarks for positions that dictate whether or not negative effects would kick in.

                        Additional Notes:
                        • The stadiums that come with this could be contextual and adapt over time. If a time has a good record year over year at home, they could be added to the list while if a team on the list played bad at home over a period of time they could fall off the list.

                          "The Starsky & Hutch"

                          Scenario Overview:
Two players that are responsible for the same "general area" on the field are producing/performing well together. Examples of possible tandems:

                          Both Safeties
                          CB1 & FS
                          CB2 & SS
In a 3-4 Scheme - Both MLBs (or one MLB and the OLB on his side)
In a 4-3 Scheme - Both DTs (or a DT and the DE on his side)
                          On the OL - C & G, RG & RT, LG & LT

                          Trigger:
The Two players' cumulative stats are above average/excellent given that particular stat's standards. Similar to discovering a hidden dev trait, these two are required to play a certain amount of snaps together.

                          What happens:
                          • One of the two players in question comes into the Coaches office and says something along the lines of:

"Hey coach, I feel like (the FS) and I (CB1) are a really effective duo out there. Keeping us together may be a good choice for the defense."
                          From that point on:

1). +5 morale, Increase in fundamental attributes (AWR/PRC/ZCV/etc) for each player involved as long as they start games together.

2). If Events cause them to be seperated:
                          - Roster Adjustment
                          -Trade
                          - Injury
                          - Retirement

Going into the Next Game - The individual who voiced the scenario (or both players) suffer a -5 Morale.

                          What is Tracked:
                          • The Stats of two potential guys as a whole, much like the game pools together the Players stats as "Team Stats".

                          Additonal Notes:
                          • Once the Scenario Triggers, the players in question must start games together consecutively.

                          • The Bonus will remain active until the end of that particular season.

                          • Once those conditions are not met, the scenario buffs are gone and the Morale penalties are applied.

Scenario: "Going with the Hot Hand"

                            Triggers:
                            • The starter at a position has been out injured for 3+ weeks and is returning
                            • The backup is within, say, 5 overall points of the starter
                            • The team is on a 3 or more game winning streak

                            Choices/Effects:
                            • Keep the backup in. He gets a morale boost and kicks off a branching scenario (see below). Starter takes a significant morale hit.
                            • Put the starter back in. Backup takes a small morale hit and there is no branching scenario.

                            Branching scenario:
If you choose to stick with the hot hand, he has an opportunity to increase his dev trait based on stat goals which will vary by position.

                              Hometown Discount

                              Scenario Overview:
Player is willing to take a discount by agreeing to an extension in his next to last year.

                              Trigger Criteria:
The player would be coming off a productive season, potentially including a Pro Bowl appearance. The player would be Star or Normal development with a rating between 80-90.

                              What Happens?:
Player is a very productive member of the team but without the notoriety of Superstar or Superstar X-Factor.

                              What Is Tracked:
Awards and stats based on previous season(s). This player should most likely have been drafted by his current team.

                              What Happens:
For a first contract player, they would come to management asking for an extension at a discounted rate. This contract would probably be a 4 year extension and would most likely result in the player seeking free agency after the extension.

                              Additional Notes:
I think it would be an interesting to have a penalty of no development increase during the extension time. I think otherwise there is little balance to the extension.

*9/11/19: I could also see the Hometown Discount event trigger when cutting off negotiations with a 30+ veteran. Adding a year to the original fair offer but at a significant reduction in salary?

                                Scenario name: Wait your turn

Scenario description: when playing as a player or coach if you don't get any offers you can sim until you get one.

Trigger criteria: when you get cut, fired, or released as either a coach or player.

What happens: you get informed that you're no longer in the teams future plans. Options given are retire or SIM until an offer is made. If within one year you get no offers you are forced to retire anyway.

This will alleviate being forced to retire when logically you could get another offer as a player or coach.
