In the NFL, do all 11 players on the field understand and at least try do their fundamental assignment?

On Sunday, I've seen blown coverages, missed blocking assignments, bad QB reads, and miscommunication with coaches, QB's and the captains calling the plays on defense.

Thats why I said try. No doubt all the examples you say do happen, but players do not run around aimlessly spinning in circles when it happens. Acting totally lost.

From my viewpoint Madden has failed to execute football fundamentals. So beg my pardon if (with that in mind) I don't see how it can simulate players "taking a play off" or "blown coverage assignments".

Now, if I see proof that its been implemented in the game some how via attributes, then Ill buy it. Until then people are just looking for excuses to hand EA. At the end of the day its not excusable that a sweep or pitch play is a risk (or not used) because its common knowledge the game cant perform it.

my main focus is at 1:42 that run was stop because offensive lineman starting falling but its clear you see they trying to focus there efforts in contain the inside for the RB to run outside but #34 even tho he sees that this play is pretty much dead he does his assignment and proceed to try and contain the outside.

my main focus is at 1:27. its a counter play and both guards are pulling and one of the guards on interaction with another assignment and help double but the other stay with his assignment and tried to contain the outside thus giving that player a little extra yardage

at :35 this play is designed to go to the right cause you can see the guards pulling right which is clear indication. however when you watch it and look at the other lineman they are going left. a play designed for the right and lineman are going left and then the FB actually follow his assignment but decides to come back and turn his back to the defense, what if the RB would have broke the tackle or something it would have mean nothin cause he has no blockers to help him get more yardage


sorry i had to do somethin but what i was trying to get is the lack of fundamentals and consistency that madden has cause the giants would have ran that play the same way every time regardless of how the ravens play cause its the defense job to stop but the offensive players will do what they fundamentally know . in apf the lineman would try and do there assignments the same way every time but in madden its the A.I. slot machine and you dont know what going to happen

This is pretty awful. There is no other way to describe it. 21 years of football games, still struggling with this stuff? I'm starting to lose my enthusiasm. It looks to me that their AI engine is just completely busted. I wonder what it would take to fix it and why it got into this state?

I entered this thread knowing that some of the same people would post in this thread about Madden 10's physics being off based on the demo build and often comparing it to the 2k games stating that their 60 bucks would be wasted on a game not up to 2k's quality keeping in mind that the OP (a veteran 2k gamer) made a valid point and asked for an explanation as to why a problem occurred, while also stating that he already pre-ordered Madden 10 and appreciates the Madden team's efforts. The expected happened in this thread. The guys subscribed to Apex's and RMoody's videos as well as those that haven't played the demo yet are stating their displeasure with the Madden 10 demo build physics while the neutral people are trying to battle it out with them as to why they are wrong. One side says that the other is agenda-driven (which may be true) and the other side says that the other is in the matrix. Let me be honest, many of us here were once disappointed with the direction that Madden was going in the last few years, but it is very hard not to embrace what Madden is doing this year and possibly for the future. Next-gen Maddens had a bumpy road full of money plays, glitches, cheese, etc, but now it seems like that is starting to clear up (at least to me). The final build of Madden NFL 10 may have a few glitches or hiccups here and there, but I enjoyed last-gen Maddens despite some of the same problems. I watched an Apex video on YouTube the other night and it was about the "morph song", but I wondered to myself how he could say that Madden 2004 was one of the best Maddens ever, yet it still had those very same problems just as well as nearly any other sports video game. My point is that if something such as the problem that the OP stated occurs in the game frequently, then it may be a problem, although I have yet to see that myself. I hope problems like this is addressed as much as the next guy even though it may or may not be present in the final build, we still have to look beyond some of these issues and ask ourselves if the game is enjoyable and playable for an entire year because we can never expect any game to be perfect, and ESPN NFL 2k5 as well as All-Pro Football 2k8 definitely wasn't.

i have 4 nano blitz that work constanly(under 2 sec). i can freeze the qb in the demo. i just played the game for two days and i discover all these cheese. these madden is going to be the worst madden game ever made because of all the glitch and cheese..

In defense of of the poor left guard in this video I wanted to add my two cents. As a former offensive lineman, the blocking scheme here looks like a classic inside trap. The right guard (who is pointed to as missing his assignment here) should not have blocked the tackle in front of him and went on to the second level and taken on the first linebacker down from him (which is what happened in the video). It's the job of the pulling left guard to kick out the now unblocked d-tackle and the running back's job to cut up behind him. The play could have gotten a 3-4 yards (what most trap plays gain) if the pulling guard makes his block however he completely misses it and the play is shut down.

As for the fullback, I have no idea what this guy is doing and I agree this is completely unacceptable; but, to say that the left side of the line is suppose to going right on a run play to the right is not entirely correct in this situation. I think Madden got the line play right with the exception of the ridiculous miss by the left guard and the fullback running in circles and rolling around on the ground.

(If this was an outside play then disregard the above--this only applies to an inside run situation).

on this play, I could have easily audibled to a screen pass with the same formation; this left guard would have blocked or done something different. With that being said; this play does not bust everytime like shown in the video. I would like to know how many times he ran that same play in a row before the defense adaptive AI kicked in and said enough is enough and cheated because they could not stop it.

Seriously, the defense has always been the problem in madden and they do cheat at times but so do real life people and thats when this adaptive AI kicks in. I had one dude just run and run straight up the middle with JaMarcus Russell and when i called a play to stop it he would audible to something else. I could not stop this guy

Also, I only played 2k and did not even pick up madden till 2006 and it took along time to adjust to. I had money plays in 2k that I could call over and over again to get the first down if needed to against anyone online. I did not start getting good at madden till i learned to master the defense as most other madden players and I play as the Texans. The hardest thing to adjust to was the speed of the football in madden, the football in 2k moved slow so you had time to break on the ball where as in madden the football moves fast like real life and makes it much more difficult.

The game is light years ahead of where it was in 2006 IMHO

congrats to some of you that enjoy madden this year. Personally the more I play the 2010 demo, the more boring the game feels. Absolutely no learning curve, nothing really to master, just glitches and AI exploits the Maddenites will use.

It doesn't appear you rented or owned 09, that was boring. No way you can compare 09 to 10 and say 10's game is boring.

Also, you must not be reading Bill Abner's blog about impressions of Madden 10.

Its had the opposite effect on me. After I downloaded it, I played it twice and it was awful. First game I played I won 6-0 after picking Romo off four times and returning one for a touchdown. The linemen seemed to spread across the line instead of forming a pocket. I couldn't buy a first down or find a lane to run in.

My second game was more of the same with Eli being the one being picked off. I stopped playing thinking that the thing was awful but today I ended up playing the perfect game of football. A real life representation of what happens on Sundays. No turnovers in this one. A real pocket. Solid 4 yard games with Jacobs. A few penalties including a clipping call that called back a long KO return. My first chain gang experience.

I ended that game wanting more and even with the horrid time I had the first night with it. It manages to showcase how much this game has changed. I highlighted three games with the same two teams and vastly different results. There is no script this year and there is no way you can go into a game knowing what you'll win it 48-10 like years past.

Comparisons between the 2k series and madden are a good thing...
I do not think people are trying to argue that 2k5 was perfect! I see it as people trying to shine a light on the things it did better then madden...

With that being said...
you can already tell its working after playing the extended demo; they have added some 2k flavor in the mix and will continue to incorporate some functions that worked well from the 2k series into madden. Nothing wrong with mimic if it works, they EA just can't make the obvious obvious?

If you were aware, I don't compare Madden to 2K5, I compare it to NFL Football. I don't have a problem with missed assignments, it's the way they do it that bothers me.
