Yes there's been different development houses, with hundreds if not thousands of different people working on the Madden franchise, but still, Electronic Arts has been making Madden for 20 plus years, they should know that there are certain core features that simply never should be omitted from any version of the game, no matter what else is added.
I'm thinking that they were legitimately caught off guard by the outcry over some of the "little things" left out this first iteration of CC. That some of their key designers were either unaware, or ever worse, didn't care that they were going to completely destroy the gaming experience for many of their long standing customers, is disconcerting.
I know they're thinking long term/big picture, but they're rolling the dice. Will enough new people be drawn in by the new goodies, to offset the loss of those who have been ostracized to the point of a non purchase. I think they were wrong to make the call they did, but I'm one who doesn't have an entrepreneurial bone in my body. Objectively, they probably made the right play.
Who would have thought that gameplay would ever become the forgotten issue when trying to navigate the maelstrom of the Madden board.
