Question re sprinting: I fired up 2k5 last night for

the first time in years to get a feel for the game before APF's release. While the game was a lot of fun, I was reminded why I stopped playing it in favor of Madden back in the day (I'm not a Madden or EA guy but I did enjoy Madden '05 more than any other Madden game, although I much preferred the running game, graphics, and animations in 2k5).

The thing that drives me nuts is tapping 'A' for sprinting. I don't mind it so much on offense but I hate it on defense. First, it is very difficult to switch to a DB with the 'B' button and then start sprinting by tapping 'A' without losing speed at the moment of switching (which often leads to long TDs). Also, it makes the defenders run in a herky jerky motion when adjusting direction at all, which also leads to offensive players breaking away for long TDs.

With all that said, I have not played 2k5 as much as many others have, and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for overcoming these issues. I am really looking forward to APF and am hoping that the "tapping" issue doesn't ruin it for me. Thanks for any responses.

I might be one of the few here but I actually liked tapping the A button... I don't know, it just seemed cool sometimes to throw the ball up there and switch to the WR and burn the DB for a score instead of just pressing turbo.

i also liked it. I think its more immersive than just pressing a button once. Gets you all excited when your trying to pull away from a defender or catch up to a ball carrier.

I really liked it. I didn't at first, but then when I would go back to Madden and NCAA I missed it. It always made me feel more like I was more in control instead of everything being entirely dictated by ratings.

I hate holding the buttin..it takes no skill.

For DBs, what you need to do is hit B button right when the QB releases the ball and it is still in the air. Then without hitting the sticks you can start tapping A to give the DB more speed without him changing the direction he is running in.

Yes, always make your DB switch while the ball is in the air. Waiting until after the catch is made to make the switch will mess you up just about every time. If you switch while it's in the air, unless you're burned badly you can be right there to bring the receiver down immediately almost every time.

The tap feels right. Holding down for turbo feels...out of control.

It takes more skill then holding it down. That is just simple physics man, sorry.

Plus, like others have said, it feels right. To run faster, hit the button faster instead of relying on the computer to determine it. If I am faster on the tap then you, I can maybe catch up to your WR with my slower DB. Not happening if both guys are just holding down buttons.

But also not realistic if a slower DB catches a faster WR. Why should speed be determined by a users ability to pound a button when no other genetic attribute is? A QB doesn't throw farther because you hit the button harder or a receiver doesn't jump higher because of ones ability to press a button. I just don't see why speed is different.

                      They do throw HARDER though.

And also, speed differences between a WR and a DB are not THAT much. Why not put some player skill into the equation...plus, we all know that the player ratings are never always right. So why rely just on those when you can factor in the human player's skill?

If you really can't handle the tapping.....

Charging up and then pressing "x" again gives you a short burst of speed, equal to the speed you get when tapping (you can see it because the player turns his head upward, to where it's more parallel with the ground). After the first burst, you can charge up again and repeat. The turnaraound time between slowdown from the first burst and activation of the second is pretty short - if you're in the open field, it's doubtful anyone will catch you.

I agree with you, but this gets back to the age-old debate of sports gaming. What should the balance be between the gamers skill, and the ratings of the virtual players? The answer comes down to personal preference and is different for everyone.

I personally find tapping to be more controlled. Ok say when u play NCAA or madden and you find the hole, then u hit sprint and hold it. How often do u let go of sprint to change direction quickly or to shake a defender. I personally find once i hold sprint I am holding it till i get hit.

Now with 2K I can tap till my hearts content trying to break away from a defender but if I see a defender cutting my angle off, it is VERY easy to stop mashing A and change speed to change directions.

Plus it is more interactive. NCAA and Madden has the worst player control of ANY sports game out. It feels as if you are driving a car. Steer him to the left, steer him around the tackle. It does not even come close to feeling like you are planting your feet and making cuts. Which in 2k5 was COmpletely possible.

PLUS the right stick jukes were the BOMB, and I hope they return but improved

2k manual's have never been that great...In 2k5 manual it doesn't have anything explaining like that youtube video.
As far as tapping the button, I don't get why people complain about this - what's the big deal?
For those that don't like it, please pick up any summer olympic game made in the 80s or 90s and you'll just love it.
oh and i think fifa has used that alot, but not too much complaining that i've heard.
To me when someone complains about tapping a button it doesn't seem legitimate, like when Mr.Sub people would complain about how Subway sucks because of the way they used to cut the bread...COME ON!!
