Im with ya on this one too. I play ESPN on my BOX but Madden on my PC. I just love the fact i can create my own team/playbook and use whatever graphics i want for the logos and endzone.

I never figured out why ppl bitch about either game, ther both great games and if you enjoy it then play it.

Re: Will this game EVER really get a fair shake

Well NO and I'll tell you why.

ESPN as I play it more isn't really user friendly. It has the eye candy that the features of a great game. It lack polish in some areas. But Sega Sports is notoriously bad for getting so many things right and the leaving other parts mediocre.

However, as I play it I understand why most casual gamers don't bother with this title or give up too soon. In the first couple of days that they play it there is a frustration factor. Things don't play right it takes a bit of getting used to.

In Madden if a casual Falcon fan buys the game, he'll see Vick take off or he'll do it himself and get big yardage that way. Plus he understand that pressing Y means you can know take off. In ESPN it's slightly harder to do that same thing.

Just like it's slightly harder to adjust the defense. It's not all that hard and it takes practice but it's not user intiative.

What does this have to do with anything. The like a casual fan. They might play the game for a few hours a week. This makes up the majority of gamers. In the first few hours that they play if it doesn't feel right they'll get frustrated and say i'm just going with Madden.

I think many gamers also have the McDonald's syndrome. You pull into a strange town. It's dinner time and the family is hungry. Do you stop of a smom and pop resturant or McDonalds. The mom and pop resturant might have 5 star food for real cheap whereas you know what you are getting with Mickey D. Do gamers really take a chance on $50 bucks if you only play a few hours a week. I think they don't. Hoever if their coworker starts talking about then a bronther in law starts in about it...sooner or later word of mouth sprends (ala WE6). I think ESPN gets poor sales because it doesn't capture the user the first time he loads up. Plus when they play it the frustration factor becuase it's a new game kicks and then they say ah hell with it, I'm getting Madden.

One thing Sega did that will cause gamers to stand up and take notice is all of the ESPN stuff and the incredible intro to the game with Berman and such. A lot of people who see this and the graphics (asuming they don't get it confused with Madden) will have to take notice I think.
