Re: Will this game EVER really get a fair shake

The answer is no...... EA Sports is to large to ever let that happen. Sega is like an ant compared to EA Sports who is like KING KONG.

You can compare it to politics and the way cooperations get away with murder while the little common man just strugles to survive.

Ask Kenny Boy Ley - from Enron. He'll explain exactly what I am talking about.

I think many gamers also have the McDonald's syndrome. You pull into a strange town. It's dinner time and the family is hungry. Do you stop of a smom and pop resturant or McDonalds. The mom and pop resturant might have 5 star food for real cheap whereas you know what you are getting with Mickey D. Do gamers really take a chance on $50 bucks if you only play a few hours a week. I think they don't. Hoever if their coworker starts talking about then a bronther in law starts in about it...sooner or later word of mouth sprends (ala WE6). I think ESPN gets poor sales because it doesn't capture the user the first time he loads up. Plus when they play it the frustration factor becuase it's a new game kicks and then they say ah hell with it, I'm getting Madden.

Well, you HAD a point last year. But THIS year, it's obvious that VC made the shipping level VERY easy enough where you can play as braindead as you want. So now what?

And until the point comes where at least it's own fans can treat the game as something other than Madden's bastard stepchild, this series is doomed to always be in the Big Man's shadow.

There is a LOT of truth in this statement. But that's just human nature. That's how the mind works. If your head has a frame of reference it is NATURALLY used no matter what the subject. Madden is the "reference".

This is a terrible comment. You can group all Madden fans as people that don't even want to try the game. That is not a fair statement. The fact of the matter is most people are just accustomed to the controls, plays physics of Madden. I am a long time fan and I look forward to renting 2K4 to give it a fair shot. The few games I have played thus far have been fantastic. With that said, I came home and still enjoyed playing Madden. I think at this point in the game it is going to come down to preference. You really can't say one game is so much better or worse than the other. They are both great games!!!!

Where did you come into the thread? In no way am I suggesting that EVERY Madden fan doesn't give the game a chance. I'm not even saying most. You'll also note that I AM a Madden fan. A fan that gave the original 2k a chance with Madden completely out of my head. I played it continuously for DAYS before even touching Madden. Can you say the same? Yes, they are both awesome game. One doesn't take away from the other. My liking one doesn't hurt my liking for the other. I just think a "lot" of Maddenites must feel in some way that if they like another game, it takes away from Madden. If you talk to some of these sorts of people, they will reject anything that ESPN does differently than Madden without even TRYING it. That is sad and it makes me wonder if this game will ever get a fair shake from this group of people.

Jrod, of course Madden will be brought up a lot by people when talking about ESPN, it's the market leader by a long shot. People have also been playing it so long that that is what they are use to, so naturally any other game will feel different and a comparison will be made. I should note that people on the Madden boards mention ESPN a lot as well.

Plus, if people are hesitant to buy drop their $50 for fear on not liking the game, they should be renting first.

I would agree with BB that people need to pick it up and give it a fair shake. Realize that competition in the marketplace benefits the consumer and Sega's game keeps EA on its toes. You have them to thank for EA making what little upgrades they do to their game. EA understands that ESPN is a threat that's why their marketing arm pays close attention to them and makes sure that they do anything in their power to slow their progress. I for one, am routing for ESPN. The closer the race is the better.

Re: Will this game EVER really get a fair shake
