The precedent has been set by Goodell under the player conduct policy. He can and has disciplined despite zero evidence of illegal activity. Ask Ben. Favre and the subject of his texts were both employees of the Jets at that time. That kind of unsolicited sexual advance in the workplace constitutes sexual harassment. And Favre is a much higher profile player than Ben ever was. Now that it's getting coverage everywhere and not only is favre, his coach, his teammates, and league officials being asked questions at press conferences.....media outlets from ESPN to Fox News are jumping on it. Jason Whitlock wrote this fine piece at Fox Sports:
More than anything, I just want to watch Roger Goodell squirm in the corner he's painted himself into. But of course Favre is his boy, so he'll try his damndest to sweep it under the rug. I'm sure he's scrambling at this very moment to put out fires before they happen. He already stuck his nose into the Favre-Packers divorce in Favre's favor, swept the tampering issue under the rug twice where he was concerned, and has repeatedly said on the record that "Favre is great for the NFL".Comment

Yes, but if allegations are true......then a pattern is very much evident. 2 Jets trainers and one sideline reporter so far. Deadspin says "there will be more to come". Even Deanna Favre said in her book she almost kicked him to the curb more than once for messing around with other women.Comment

Now that I'm thinking, how come the past trip to rehab for pill addiction doesn't factor against him if these allegations are true.

Surely you see the difference between being accused of sexual assault twice and being accused of hitting on someone and sexting.
What Favre did is reprehensible, but it wasn't in any way illegal. It's a matter for his wife's divorce lawyer (unless she's a very forgiving person), not the league office.Impact de Montréal
