Re: The Peyton Manning Discussion thread

Guess I just view things differently than some of you.

As for me saying Miami would be a Super Bowl contender with Manning. That was before they decided to trade away their #1 wide receiver.

In regards to Manning being a big fish in a small pound wherever he lands. I don't believe that to be totally true. While every team would change their respective offenses to fit Manning. Not all would make it all about him.

You can't deny the fact that Peyton and his father have a reputation for being control freaks. Going somewhere like Tennessee or Arizona would be typical. Not necessarily the best place to win now, but the place where Peyton has the most control.

So what? Peyton is a 1st ballot HoFer doing things this way, and Archie was pretty good too. So why would whatever team that gets Manning NOT let him do things the way that led him to be so highly coveted in the first place? I hate to use a baseball analogy in a football thread, but this would be like a team taking a power hitter who gets paid big bucks to drive in runs and telling him to go hit leadoff and steal bases. Ok maybe not exactly like that, but the point stands: you don't go and change what's made a guy so successful because you did things differently when he wasn't there. If you don't like the way he does stuff, don't pursue him.

        Not that I know of.

I do agree that it seems kind of crazy to give him that role. I meant more that it would be an alluring pitch. Maybe it could be like a cherry on top because I haven't heard of anyone else offering anything similar yet. It certainly could come back to bite them though, if his inexperience proved costly. I think it shows that the Titans are really throwing the kitchen sink at him to get him to sign haha.

You actually wrote it after they traded away Marshall and after Wayne and Garcon signed elsewhere too. But that doesn't even matter. Your reply here ignores the entire section of your previous post that brought me to say you don't know what you're talking about... but I think you knew that, lol.

Even with Marshall traded away and Wanye and Garcon signed elsewhere. I still think Miami with Manning are a better situation than Denver , Arizona , or Tennessee would be.

I would agree but at this point its a matter of opinion.

Peyton, Gore, V. Davis & Randy Moss would have been SCARY. The 49ers are village idiots for not pursuing Peyton further & sticking with Alex Smith.

Just curious as to why? I think we can all agree that Miami has the best defense out of the suitors (by how wide a margin is debatable), but other than that, what would be the advantages Miami has over everyone else? The market for top tier weapons is drying up by the hour, and Miami plays in the least winnable division out of Denver, Arizona and Tennessee.

Peyton Manning wants to air it out.

John Fox is one of the most conservative coaches in the NFL.

That would be a strange marriage in Denver, IMHO.

Not entirely true. With John Fox, you get the play action pass. John Fox wants to win. And he's shown that he is malleable enough to change his game plan based on his personnel. Don't forget that you have the same offensive Cordinator who ran the pass happy offense with Josh McDaniels in Mike McCoy.

On NFLN a Tennessee reporter said that there is a flight plan back to Durham by 8. So the meeting is also done.

Fox told Manning it would be his offense to run pretty much and he proved last year he's willing to adapt to his QB.
