It's funny, just yesterday on their first TD a Michigan State player caught it, dove while extending the ball out and lost it when he hit the ground. Still a TD, but wouldn't have been in the NFL. Neither commentator mentioned it. I think it was how a catch should be called personally.

I agree with having the rules require a receiver to maintain possession throughout in order to be ruled a catch. But the interpretation has not been consistent in what constitutes a "football move."

That has nothing to do with making a football move but instead defining when the catch is complete.

No, that still would've been a touchdown. If he had it, then dove into the endzone, once the ball crosses the goal line, it's a TD. The dive establishes a football move, and you don't need to keep the ball through the ground anymore.

By dove, I mean he caught it, got hit immediately which caused him to start going to the ground and stretched out.

It's the Pendelton touchdown in link below if you want to see what I'm talking about. One foot might make some difference, but in the NFL, I don't think it's a touchdown which is dumb to me.

It would have been ruled a TD in the NFL.

The pro refs aren't that bad. He never jumped or left his feet so it would not be much of a question about the catch.

Yeah, I still think that's called a TD. I've seen plays like that in the NFL and they've been called TDs.

I think that play would have stayed at whatever is called on the field. Looks like a TD to me though, didn't go to the ground to complete the catch, dove and play ended when ball broke the plane. Only needing one foot down makes it complete even earlier in the process is all IMO.

Compare it to something like the infamous Dez incompletion, he went up to make the catch, going to the ground was part of the process of completing it.

Yea that goods to me. He caught the ball, 2 feet down in bounds. Got to the pylon and then the ball came out because he was extending and the ground caused the fumble.

Hmm, maybe it is about the stats for him.

If he for instance signs with the Browns or the 49ers, you know he doesn't care about winning.

I'll be shocked if Manning plays next season. I figured this was it for him before the season started.
