I watch sports to be entertained. The spectacular catches are some of the bright spots in the 4 hour crawl that is an NFL game. I vote keep them.

Do the gloves provide make it easier to make catches than stickum used to before the league outlawed it?

With how many dropped passes there still are anyway, I've got no problem with the way gloves currently are.

Yeah I just don't care. If everyone is using the gloves then there is no advantage to be had.

I get that people may not care or think it doesn't have a huge impact. I'll be that grumpy old man who claims it's an integrity of the game issue. I think the "if everyone does it" line of thinking isn't valid. There's still an advantage to be had. Just like if baseball players used corked bats.

I think we'll see it addressed in the near future. However the NFL might not touch it because they want all these one handed grabs to continue for advertising.

In January, Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice said he used to put stickum on his gloves.

I think the money side wins out and the gloves aren't changed but rather made even more sticky.

Nothing will happen until someone make the game winning touchdown catch in the Superbowl with one finger.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

So then why do half of these WRs still struggle to catch the ball then?

If they're THAT much of an advantage, then drops should be down significantly across the league.

I was on the side of banning gloves using the latest sticky tech until Rick Reilly did a piece on them for Monday Night Football. Rick Reilly is a annoying dick so I change my vote to keep em.

Have you ever put on a pair and caught a football? I'm not saying the gloves make stone hand bums turn into Jerry Rice. They make the ball instantly stop spinning in your hand which is crazy. It greatly enhances the ability to make catches with generally poor hand position on the football. They don't make you get in better position or concentrate more.

Obviously it's better than playing with no gloves but I don't think the difference is as big as some folks tend to believe.

Just my .02 on using them.
There is a difference in catching passes from an NFL QB though(most of them anyway). The RPM they are able to put on the ball is greater than what non-pros can do.

I don't expect a change in glove policy anytime soon. Fans love the spectacular catches and the league loves them as a marketing ploy. Then there is the money side of it. You inadvertently alluded to that in your post.

                            Re: NFL Off Topic

Seems like the argument is against advancing the technology in football (sports). The point of receiver gloves is to make catching the ball easier, been that way since players started wearing them.

No different that the advances in shoe tech in track and basketball (all sports), bat tech in baseball, uniform tech across all sports. (although a fair bit of that is marketing and $$$).

Neumann (the gloves with the big N on them) WR gloves from back in the day used to be tacified leather, the problem with those was that 1.) they didn't last long and were expensive and 2.) in the rain they would become heavier than all hell. This new tech solves both those problems and TBH while these gloves are more "sticky" those Neumann gloves were not that far off when they were new.

Baseball is different with their standards I guess. You can't put substances on your hand to throw a ball. They also made a change with metal bats to make the speed of the ball off the bat less. Baseball is a sport where no real technological advances are being made.

I said in my previous post that I have a few pairs and use them quite regularly(Own 2 pairs of the Vapor Jet 2.0s and the 3.0s).

They don't make that much of a difference as much as you think it does. And if there's any precipitation involved, then they really don't make ANY difference. It'd be like trying to catch with your bare hands.
