        Yeah it is.
No way in hell should Kirk Cousins be averaging $20 million a year.

Eh, last year of that contact would be like $45m, he would average that on paper, not make it like Manning does.

He'll get one of those Kaepernick fake money deals and we'll all overreact at first before all the details come out.

At least in the NFL no deal is guaranteed unless you're a mega superstar and there's no way to restructure.

All a product of leverage is all and who's willing to bet on themselves to get a better deal.

Teams have to spend the money now either way.

He won't even get that. For QBs it is mostly about what you did in the playoffs.
Had they won today he could be in for a big payday, but as it is now, he is not sniffing $20 million a year.

A deal that averages 14-15 per year is what he should expect.

Where are y'all getting $20 Mil from? Or is that just a number y'all made up?

Rob brought up that number originally, in a post you actually quoted.

Year one of the franchise tag would be $20 million. Skins have said they are okay with that number. Extrapolating at team friendly number.

They're probably okay with it as a price for franchise tagging him, but I don't think they would be okay with it over a 6 year deal.

At least I hope they would not be okay with it.

They could sign a phantom deal with those numbers where the plan would be to restructure (like Flacco), but I don't think Cousins has done anything to warrant coming close to that.

I also don't expect someone else to sign a deal like Kap's now that we know how well that worked out for him.

I could see tagging him and returning to the table after a full season where he is the unquestioned guy. It is a risky move for both sides though.

                              What'd Alex Smith get?

I'd probably look at that as the benchmark for what I would pay Kirk.

                                4 years @68 million.
                                45 of which was guaranteed.
