Re: NFL Off Topic
Either way, it's not what Manning did that i'm disappointed about because well, that's par for the course in collegiate sports and in young people in general. It's the coverup and then absolutely destroying this lady's career that has me dismayed.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NFL Off Topic
I played college sports and know a lot of others that did and have never heard a story like this. This is a gross over-generalization. And even if it was, it doesn't mean it should be accepted behavior.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I'm just saying that in the grand scheme of things, that one act by Manning wasn't the absolute worst thing anyone can do. It's not like he murdered the woman. I'm talking about degrees of bad things he could've done. Reading the article though, it does seem like Tennessee had a real problem with gender equality and sexual harassment. If the story had gone public, Manning probably wouldn't have faced as much heat as the school and the people running the program because in that respect there was institutional sexism and harassment going on.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NFL Off Topic
After the initial sweep it under the rug, it becomes dangerous to speak of it again. In the book all that should have been mentioned was how it was an immature thing to do. Instead it was framed as implying that she could dish it out but not take it. That was just stupid; you guys won the battle, just move on. Instead she files a suit blaming this for the reason of the demotion. Having said that, I'm not sure how much blame Peyton receives for destroying her career.
** To clarify, I do hate how collegiate athletics operates, I am not okay with it. My point is that this story doesn't change anything. I'm not naive enough to think that Peyton was squeaky clean.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Didn't Eli have a rape allegation in college too? I think prior to social media a lot of guys probably got a pass and got away with a lot more. Jamis Winston is an example of this.
No athlete or celebrity or public figure is clean. It's naive to think so. However, each time it destroys a little more of my childhood.

Re: NFL Off Topic
The start of all of this was comparing/contrasting how the players are discussed. Cam got ripped for his press conference, whereas Peyton got a pass when he left the field without congratulating any opponents after losing to the Saints.
Jameis'/Cam's past gets brought up whenever they're talked about in depth. Many people had no idea about this story about Peyton until a week ago.Comment
