Apparently Brown's wife wouldn't talk to the NFL during their investigation. I'm not sure how much she cooperated with police after the official charge, but it doesn't seem like much came out of it legally.

The NFL has blocked Mike Tirico from calling NBC's Thursday Night games.

Reportedly because they want the #1 commentating teams to call both Thursday and Sunday day/night.

I get the appeal of having Al Michaels and Chris Collingsworth, but Tirico has been around and is well respected. Not to mention Michaels is older and that extra amount of work will be taxing on him. Hopefully quality doesn't suffer, but I'm sure it will.

Now Tirico is out of a broadcast job with NBC until Michaels retires. He's versatile enough to do other sports/events but that must suck. NBC has an everyman in Tom Hammond, too.

Wow, that's a BS move by the NFL. I bet Tirico is frustrated as all hell as he likely thought he'd be calling all the Thursday night games.

I wonder if this is going to put pressure on NBC to push Michaels out of the booth sooner than later.

Yeah that sucks, I like Tirico, The NFL said that part of NBC's pitch for this TV deal was that Al and Cris would do Thursday and that's in the contract.

Wonder how much of a grind that is, because I know they do a bit of research before every game, have time w/ players, etc. Now to do that every ~3 days rather than every 7.

I think it's going to take some adjustment but it's doable. The CFL used to have a very truncated weekly schedule and the pool of broadcast teams in the booth was pretty small. (I think about 2 or 3 broadcast teams) so they REALLY had to be on the ball and not waste much time with the pregame prep.

I think the first few weeks will be okay but later in the season you may very well see some poor prep work before the game.

This is more like additional information than a reasonable answer for why he only got 1 game.

Based on what we know, he should get nothing from the NFL... if they want to say they can still punish despite what's happening legally, then he should've gotten the minimum suspension as defined in the new rule. Giving him 1 game doesn't add up either way.

Yeah I agree. It doesn't make sense to me, but was the only explanation I can think of.

The NFL league office can be so freaking petty sometimes.

Can Tirico do some SNF or is NBC contractually obligated to have it be Michaels/Collinsworth there too?

Would be kind of funny, because then it would negate the whole lead broadcast team situation if Tirico does Sunday's in place of Michaels.

The contract is number one production team/ announcing crew for both, so no.
