    Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

I heard the call this morning that he was talking about. The argument wasn't exactly like the original poster mentioned though. He was arguing that with Kaep at the helm, the 49ers are a better team on offense, and put up more points (true statement). The caller was arguing that it wasn't Smith's fault that they didn't make it last year, but that wasn't the argument. With Kaep at the helm, the 49ers are scoring 28.6 ppg on offense. With Smith, it was 21.9. Also, Kaep's offense puts up 382.7 ypg to Smith's 321.1.

Cowherd may be completely one-sided and a bit radical, but in this case, he was right. The caller was trying to make it a different issue.

That's kind of my point. If they're in the super bowl last year, no one cares how many points they scored to get there, so why Is scoring more points even an argument? At least that's how I perceived it.

I agree, but he began the segment by talking about how Kaep is one of the most athletic players in the league, and he much he improved the offense. He never bagged on them for being a bad team with Alex Smith; just said that they are better without him. If you were going to tie the two arguments together, it would be that the 6.7 ppg more that Kaep brings makes up for that fumble that prevented them from going last year.

At this point, it's all theoretical though. There's always the what ifs. Without them, sports radio would just be stat reporting.

Every ESPN show, both TV and radio, are designed to drum up controversial opinions in order to get ratings. PTI, Cowherd, Mike and mike, and First Take especially. Very little REAL sports insight to be found.

While listening to mike and mike in the morning, Greenberg is using all these stats to for Flacco and Brady. Golic and Chris Carter shed a different light on those numbers destroying Greenberg's argument with him admitting as much. Thought it was cool hearing the players flip stats to mean almost nothing.

            The bad:

Colin Cowherd comes on. I loath this idiot. He's talking about the 49ers QB change. Why is this still a topic is beyond me. He goes on to say how it was such a good move and an obvious one. A caller says he's not disputing what Colin is saying, and starts to say that if the guy doesn't drop the punt last year, Alex Smith potentially leads his team to a super bowl also. Before he gets all that out, Colin ask "How many points were they scoring in those games?". The caller ask to finish, Colin says no and hangs up on him calling him an idiot.

How in the entire **** do guys like him, Skip, and Rob getting any jobs around sports?!
Guys like him and Skip are paid to have contrarian opinions just to piss people off. It's disingenuous. Dan Patrick Show is a lot more honest and less of just giving an opinion to tick people off.

Can we stop talking about losers like Skip Bayless and Colin Cowherd, because that is exactly why they have a job - they say the most outlandish **** possible to get people talking, and it works.

                SVP & Russillo isn't bad.

The Dan Patrick Show is, by far, my favorite of any "sports talk" show anywhere in the history of anything.

That's exactly why they kept him. He fits a "younger" demographic. Mike and Mike are for the older crowd up and at work at 6 am. Colin's crowd is the office professional, people in sales for example. SVP is for the college aged crowd.

I tend to stick with local sports talk radio. Heck, I wouldn't know where to find ESPN radio here if I wanted to. In the rare chance I'm home on a weekday, I will watch Van Pelt & Russillo on ESPN News.

Seems accurate considering SVP is the only one I can really stand over at ESPN, besides Stan Verrett but he's just a SC guy.

So what's everyone's opinion on this pistol/dual threat QB deal in the league ryte now?

IMO, these QBs have very good first years for one reason... lack of tape. I don't think this offense is here to stay. Look @ Cam Newton. After about a year of tape, defenses tend to figure out tendencies and develop schemes to stop them.

That's why I don't get up in arms over first year QB success. A great QB has great sophmore years IMO, b/c they are beating schemes developed to stop them. That said, I've been wrong before, and will be wrong again.

Aaron Rodgers agrees. He feels it will be like the Wildcat, gone in 5 years.
