Problem is, it's not that neat and tidy. It's a guy being accused of a crime, and the league figuring out how to handle accusations on a case by case basis, vs the open and shut case of a guy failing a test, and them having a set standard of discipline for that.

If people wanna say the NFL got each and every one of those decisions wrong, that's cool.

It's hard to compare any of these as you have different circumstances. There were little to no facts in this case, unless Winston and the other 2 people said to have been in the vehicle turned over their cellphone location data. It still wouldn't prove that anything happened, but it would show that someone was lying. So the NFL gets him to take a deal, while probably working with the NFL and releasing a stock non-apology. If they suspend him 6 games, he fights it, gets drawn out in the media, and with a he said she said case, the NFL takes a big pr hit.

Failed drug tests aren't so open and shut either. There are diluted tests, false positives, etc., but this was originally about whether journalists should report on the NFL's record of dealing with their players' transgressions.

You don't seem to think it's worth reporting since there's not 100% clarity, while CTE is a much more serious issue. Fair enough, I suppose.

The article might be a bit of an exaggerated reaction, but with how people have been turned away from the NFL because of players protesting it wouldn't surprise me if others are having issues watching games with the league enabling abusers.

I'm not following, why would he agree to a deal if he didn't do anything wrong?

He doesn't have to be guilty for the NFL to suspend him 6 games.
He knows who did it but didn't cooperate and give the name up, so NFL can still suspend him 6 games.
              He did it.

I think all 3 have a chance of being true.

So last night I was watching a 1996 clash between the Bengals and Niners from my collection and lo and behold, it's actually historically significant. First of all the Bengals really bungled it up as was their want back in the day as they jumped out to a 21-0 lead but let it slip away. Steve Young was gimpy as hell from a deep groin injury and honestly he probably shouldn't have started the game the way he was looking. He gets pulled and Elvis Grbac leads the Niners to a TD but then gets injured at the end of the half so Young comes back in the 2nd half and has a gutsy performance.

The historic note about this game? It was Terrell Owens' first ever start in the NFL AND he caught his first ever TD and the game tying one to boot.

When I traded for that game I had NO idea of the significance of it so seeing as how T.O. is going to the Hall in August this was quite the treat.

...and how is that different than the current Bengals?

How is TO flipping the bird to his fellow inductees (as well as everyone who went into the Hall before him) by making the day all about himself "pretty cool"?

That's not what he's doing, man. The Hall is based on media voters. They decided to be divas and make an example of him and make him wait, even though he should have gone in the first year he was eligible. This isn't about former players. They all thought he got a raw deal too.

Just because something has always been done one way doesn't mean that's the only way.

And LOL at giving every hall of famer the bird.

He's doing it at his alma mater, the place that got him into the NFL. If that's disrespectful and self-centered, I wish more inductees were like that.

I couldn't care less what TO does or how it's perceived but I find it hilarious that you said the media decided to be divas. If TO wasn't such a diva he would not be in this position!
