I'm going to stop right here however because I feel that this topic may get way to close to the TOS if it goes any further. I will however gladly discuss my view in PM if anyone wants to know.

In other news I won't be watching ESPN for about two weeks until Ray Lewis crawls into a hole somewhere. Smh.

No one is saying that that shouldn't happen. The problem is, qualified people have been getting passed over for jobs for decades in the NFL.

          And that's the teams decision.

They shouldn't be forced to interview someone just because they're a minority.

We're not allows to go beyond surface level things here so I'm not going to get into it too much but that's a pretty was way to look at things. This country would be very different if things were allowed to happen just because "it's their decision".

The problem is that teams seem to just find one guy and they all rush to interview him to get it out of the way so they can hire "their guy".

If I were Mel Tucker and Ray Horton, i'd be pissed. Those guys both deserve a HC job SOMEWHERE.

OTOH, it did help Tomlin and Frasier get a job, so it's working some rare cases.

If nothing else, the Rooney Rule has guys like Horton and Tucker at least preparing for a head coaching interview on multiple occasions so that they know what teams are looking for, so they are at minimum acquiring interview experience to know what teams are looking for and they can leverage that to eventually bash down the door and get a head coaching job.

Taking any sort of genetic factors out of the equation, football in general is a bit of an "good ol' boy's club", if you will. Moreso at the college level than the pro level, I think, but the idea is still there in the NFL. It's hard to get into the fraternity at all if one wasn't born into it or one doesn't have a direct connection, and it's that much harder to reach a high-level job in the field because it seems familiar faces keep getting recycled. Hell, Dave Wannstedt over the past ten years has held five different jobs with four different teams. Hopefully, guys like Horton and Tucker will get their shots in due time.

OS is a funny place, man.

I've always wondered what it would look like if there was no TOS in place. It'd definitely would be interesting to say the least, especially on this particular subject.

Yesterday reminded me why I sometimes hate arguing sports. Seahawks fan (not on here) who was rooting against the Niners started talking about how it was an NFL conspiracy to have the power go out and started saying that the power outage was the only reason the Niners got back in.

Most of them are still on that blowout of San Fran from the end of the season saying "they didn't deserve to be there." I said the power outage makes much less of a difference than they think, but they refuse to believe that the 49ers would have come back any other way because of the momentum in the game. They say this despite their own team not needing a power outage to come back from 3 scores down just a few weeks prior. Then they resort to insults in the end. I hate biased sports fans.

The Rooney Rule talk is being discussed in the Black Monday/Coaching thread. So lets not have it going on in two places. Thanks.
