The best option I've seen is the Redtails, to honor the Tuskegee Airmen.

Yeah, my brother (a life long 'Skins fan) was telling me about that one. It would be very, very dope if they went in that direction. Actually honoring a group of men that fought for our country, could keep the same color scheme & do something very "progressive."


Like I said earlier, I also wouldn't be opposed with them using this opportunity to actually honor indigenous people & collaborating with a local tribe to use a more appropriate name. Similar to the Blackhawks in Chicago.

Yeah but redtails promotes the country in a patriotic, militaristic way and its history and we can't have that either because of obviously all the evil.

I was criticizing the people who co-opt every movement and take umbrage with every single thing even though they have no ties to anything at hand. The ones who have a desire to just be part of something, so as not to appear any other way. The reddit-y, virtue signaling, photo filter, hashtagging, "there, that's better" "phew, we did it" types. That venn diagram is a big fat circle.

Not saying the Redskins name shouldn't be changed, but I personally am totally okay if it isn't. I know I might feel differently if it was applied to my culture, because I was ingrained with the name in my mind growing up without a second's thought of the possible tie-ins or defamation.

They should call themselves the Washington Middlers.

No no I understand it completely. The portion afterward explains it more so. I’m saying that growing up, it was a team name. Meant nothing one way or the other. It was an accustom unrelated to a culture basis.

But when I apply it to a hypothetical scenario and say what if next year a team name came out called the Negros, I’d say: “... Okay now I gotcha.”

If my context isn’t making sense, I’m sorry about that. I’m not saying that I’m oblivious to the fact.

At the same time, I’m not liking that it takes a sensitive woke culture to point this fact out. It should’ve been pointed out when the name was suggested in the first place. If it was then I’m once again unaware.

The thoughts will never change. And you can't tell anyone their way of thinking is a problem. And you shouldn't, either, because once you get into policing, determining the worthiness of people's thoughts, etc, that's a whole helluva different level. Because this isn't Iran or Russia or China, try as some might.

Any change to this name, to that logo, to this rule, to that set of words, to this cast member, to that movie/show catalog on that service, is pure window dressing and superficial as hell only done to shut people up. People aren't haven't their minds changed. They're just acting trying to shut people up hoping that the crocodile won't want to eat them anymore. And that's sad.

It's pretty patronizing, tbh. I'd hate if someone bent over backwards just to appease me, etc because I'd know it's all fake.

But the people don't care because it's not about those things. Not at all. You think people *actually* care about the name of a football team? Of ****ing course not. It's just one big power flex and it's always been that. And it's getting worse because nobody says "that's ****ing stupid, get a life."

This has re-emerged to the top of the item list. And once it happens we'll just move on to the next thing. I've warned about slippery slopes on so many things for years on this site and literally everywhere else to no avail and have been mocked and denigrated for daring to suggest "hey, maybe not a good idea." There has been nothing over the last however many years to suggest I was incorrect about my earnings.

But whatever. Y'all can have it. I'm ready to hear what's next. This topic is old AF. Only reason I'm even "back in the game" so to speak is because I have to be online to track virus news. Can't wait for it to be over so I can sink back into the shadows. I liked not giving a **** about all the dumb bull**** everyone acts like they care about.

But seriously, I would go with the Washington Redtails as well. Given the current political moment and well-documented racist history of the current team (which, among other things, was the last NFL team to integrate black players onto its roster), it'd be a thoughtful attempt to reach an olive branch and repair a strained relationship with football fans in the DMV area. There's a reason there are so many Cowboys fans there.
