Even with "appropriate" names it still comes off as callous to me - using an oppressed culture's heritage and symbolism by the oppressing society? Doesn't sit right to me and it feels like an extension of empirical conquest.

Eagles' DeSean Jackson says he doesn't hate Jewish community after posting anti-Semitic messages

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson said he has no hatred toward the Jewish community after posting anti-Semitic messages on social media Monday that he attributed to Adolf Hitler and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

On his Instagram story feed, Jackson featured a quote that he attributed to Hitler that said "[white Jews] will blackmail America. [They] will extort America, their plan for world domination won't work if the Negroes know who they were."

He also shared two posts on Instagram -- on Saturday and on Monday -- expressing admiration for Farrakhan, whom the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center have identified as anti-Semitic.

After receiving criticism on social media, Jackson, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, said the posts were taken "the wrong way."

"Anyone who feels I have hate towards the Jewish community took my post the wrong way," he posted on Instagram story along with the highlighted passage that was attributed to Hitler. "I have no hatred in my heart toward no one!! Equality. Equality." At the end, he added raised fist emojis in multiple skin tones.

The Eagles, who signed Jackson to a three-year deal in March 2019 for his second stint with the team, have not yet commented on the posts.

Lets try keeping the Hitler's quotes at a minimum.

I can't figure out which is dumber--posting a quote from Hitler or responding to the backlash by clarifying the part of Hitler's words you agree with. He should have just dropped it like it was a football at the one-yard line. Smfh.

Florida State did come under pressure years ago to change their name but got exemption due to multiple Seminole nations in Florida (And I think Oklahoma) saying they do not object to the name.

Interesting to note, they said at the bottom of the article, they are open to change if Seminole nation were to ever change their mind:

The issue could come back up. The leadership in Oklahoma or at least a few vocal members are still pissed off that no one listens to them. They feel they are treated lesser than the Florida tribe. They were the ones leading the effort to change the name and have protested other things.

The Florida tribe has no issues and is involved in making sure everything is accurate. They also make a ton of money in Florida and taking that on would greatly hurt their revenue.


On the tomahawk chant, that wasn't appropriated as no tribe did that.

The part where it’s not even a real Hitler quote, so he was basically just co-signing some nonsense and Hitlers name was just there.

It’s hard to explain Farrakhan’s pull in the community to people outside of it so he’s probably both in this situation.
