This was followed up by NFL.com analysts bringing up certain QB's which the top five have a very high Win/Loss ratio when they throw for over 300 yards.

For a guy who was going to be replaced by a player who may or may not ever reach peak form and is old, Smith probably should have toned his comments down a little.
Don't lower the credibility of your point with that last statement. The "may not ever reach peak form and is old" QB you're talking about is also a 1st ballot HOFer, arguably the most talented QB of our generation and definitely one of the best football minds we've ever seen. Don't paint him as Mark Brunell to further a point.

BTW, I look at the Cam comments similar to Harbaugh's bringing in the Pats when talking about fan reaction to the Saints situation. It's not "calling him out" so much as bringing in a relate-able example. It would've been more PC to point out Brady's games in the past or even Big Ben, but we should know what he meant. No reason to twist it bc the opportunity is there to. I hate when media does that. On one hand they want to make wins the biggest stat in the world to QBs, and in the same breath want to bury a guy making a point to help average fans understand how that can be true without big passing yards.

I think the only team that actually wants it will end up being Jacksonville.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. I think there are times when big yardage games by QBs are warranted and necessary but by and large it's not the only way to win games. Look at the Giants in the '80s or the Cowboys with Aikman. They didn't always put up huge passing numbers but the QBs were very capable of doing that if the need arose.

You're right that Smith should've reached back a bit further in time to make his point. Personally i'd trot out the Dan Marino point but that'd probably also cause some controversy though not as much as making the point about Cam Newton. It shouldn't matter though because everyone KNOWS what Smith is driving at. Don't cloud the issue just because you can.

What Manning did in the past has no bearing whatsoever on what he's going to do now. He had a great career and has the potential to add to it but realistically the guy is coming off of 3 neck surgery's and is old. That's the hard truth and the fact that Harbaugh was willing to take a shot with Manning and drop Smith speaks volumes.

The same way I'm sure Harbaugh would drop Smith if he could for Cam Newton. If you haven't watched the actual video Smith comes off as defensive and pretty much sounding like a child. I am not a Newton fan, but there is no reason especially being in Smith's position to answer a question by throwing another player under the bus.

Might give them that much needed publicity. Perhaps even another meme besides confused/angry Jaguars fan.

The expectations for Peyton is still very high. The Broncos gave him a 5-year $96 million contract. The Redskins wouldn't have given up two 1st and one 2nd round pick for RG3 if it meant that they could acquire Peyton Manning. Many people believe Peyton is still a top 10 quarterback. But they understand he has a short shelf life, yet would be tremendously valuable for a team that can win now (like the 49ers).

When Alex Smith used Cam Newton as an example, it was really more of a diss to the Panthers defense last year. The Panthers defense was always giving up so many points last year. So the only they could catch up with their opponent was to force Newton to throw a lot, which would increase the Panthers' chance of creating a turnover.

I watched the video once on NFL Network and most of his response is in this video (http://www.49ers.com/media-gallery/v...0-c0a73b10b995). He was simply giving his honest answer and acted calm when doing so.

              These were Smith's quotes:

"I don't know the league stat is, but check the win/loss ratio on 300 yard passing games. I think it has gotten better as of late, but tradionally if you threw for 300 yards, your chances of winning went down. As a quarterback you have to distribute the football and make your decisions and I think those areas is where you make your money. You make your money on third down and you make your money in the red zone and you got to be good there.

This is the honest truth. I could absolutely care less on yards per game. I think that's a totally overblown stat. Because if you're losing games in the second half, guess what? You're like the Carolina Panthers and you're going no-huddle the entire second half and, yeah, Cam Newton threw for a lot of 300-yard games, that's great. You're not winning, though."

Beason's point is stupid because you bet your *** Smith would have been out if Manning was gonna come to SF. Count how many QBs are safe if everyone had an equal opportunity to sign Peyton on the open market. I know Houston would throw out Schaub, a top 10 QB, if Manning seriously wanted to go there and the conditions were right.

Unless you know what Manning will do, what he's done in the past is everything. And it's what every team that went after him was going on. Again, don't act like they were trying to replace Smith with Mark Brunell. Everyone and their mother considered the 9ers a SB favorite if they signed Manning, and I find it hard to believe that didn't include you.

I'm sure he would've taken Netwon over Smith too. And nothing Smith said indicated he felt he was a better QB than Smith or anyone else. Like I said, he was describing his team's approach and how it's traditionally more successful than being forced to air it out enough to get video game stats. You're trying to make it more than it was and throwing Manning under the bus in the process.

Basically this kid was really good at football in high school, a classmate accused him of rape, he got put behind bars, and now shes saying she made up the allegations. The end of the article is what really made me angry though, it said
Last year, Gibson contacted Banks on Facebook, telling him she felt guilty about making up the rape allegations. She asked if they could "let bygones be bygones," though she said she did not want to admit her lie to prosecutors for fear of having to give back the $1.5 million settlement she won from Long Beach Unified School District after filing a lawsuit accusing the school of poor security."
                      What a stupid bitch.

I'm really starting to get cheesed off now. It's almost like everyone's telling these guys to be smart and then just dismiss it and go do the exact opposite.

                          It really is becoming frustrating....
