Granted, he never won a Playoff game, but he got them there 7 times, in a VERY tough Division. Pittsburgh and Baltmore went to 5 Super Bowls in that window.

I think he gets a bad rap for bringing in so many shady players over the years.
I agree. That was my point with. His tenure was in the prime years of Steelers and Ravens. And with a owner who didn't like spending money.

But, I do think his time is past. We're in the "young bright offensive mind" coach phase. Where defensive candidates needs to coach a top 10 defense and have the reputation. That's why I understand Patrick Graham going to Raiders. In his QB Collective video, he mentioned the team record several times as a deterring factor in being a candidate. If Raiders can have a good season or 2, he'll be a HC sooner than he would be if he stayed with the Giants

Wonder how much perception may matter. Me and my cousin use to clown on JC all the time because whenever the camera panned to him on the sidelines he had a confused look on his face. Cousin use to love joking about him during press conferences (usually centered around Peyton Manning, like reporter asks a question Caldwell gives answer along the lines of "we got Peyton" and then reporter informing him that Peyton isn't on the Lions that kind of thing).

Of course front offices don't have that same perception, but what did contribute to how me and cousin viewed him was his quiet and reserved nature. Kellen Moore apparently bombed an interview because of his demeanor so I'm wondering if it could be at play here.

Then again I don't even know of Caldwell has gotten any interviews.

Fanatics has stopped selling Commanders jerseys with John Riggins' name on them.

He just really doesn't like the new name. Not the fact that they rebranded, according to one source he's been trying to get Snyder to change the name for nearly 20 years. He just doesn't like the one they decided on.

I maintain that Strahan's final sack was a run play, therefore a TFL, and Watt should own the sack record outright.

Congrats on MVP #4 for Rodgers, I guess.

Thought this would be the year LaFleur would finally get Coach of the Year but the Football Gods said nah.

Vrabel had a strong argument though.

I was much more excited to see LeRoy finally got into the Hall.

.. Should have given the MVP to Brady as a parting gift. I bet the voters would like a do-over.

Speaking of the Pro Football Hall of Fame: anyone want to try to help me understand how Demarcus Ware missed the cut? Figured that his being a member of the NFL 2000s All-Decade team, a seven-time All Pro, a Super Bowl champion, and two-time NFL sack leader would have been as close to a slam dunk resumé as one could get.

I'm sure he'll get in eventually, he's clearly that caliber of player. It's just weird that he didn't get in this time. I think his resumé compares favorably to the guys they actually elected.

Slam dunk for the HOF, but voters probably felt wasn't a first ballot guy.

There's certainly a debate to be held regarding the merit of voters taking a "good enough to get in, but not to skip to the front of the line" approach.
