You have Capitals and Nationals already, so Commanders I guess somewhat fits, not as much as a name like Senators would have.
Commanders just sounds so generic and boring. At least with Hogs there's some history. I would have loved RedHogs, Warhogs, etc.

He claims Steven Ross offered him 100k a game if he tanked for the
#1 pick, during the 2019 Season.

Bill Belicheck texted him (Flores) congrats on the Giants job. The text
was meant for Brian Daboll. Flores had not interviewed yet, so that
meant they knew he Daboll was the guy and interviewed Flores to
        satisfy the Rooney rule.

I wonder if this is going to black ball him for future jobs. Suing the NFL.

I wonder if they wanted to go with Admirals, but didn't want to seem partial to a branch of the army above others (this is the kind of thing they would take into account I guess). I mean, Commanders sounds so generic.

The part about Steven Ross pressuring him into breaking tampering rules and him refusing is interesting too.

Apparently, Steven Ross was trying to get Flores to meet with Brady "by chance" at his yacht, and it wasn't the first time Ross was trying to get him to break these kind of rules.

I think we all know that this kind of stuff is widespread throughout all leagues. Will be interesting to see what kind of fallout comes from this.

He is going after an owner (Ross), a General Manager that happens to be a legend (Elway) and is bringing in a fellow coach too (Belichick). All from 3 different teams. That's a trifecta. I don't think Flores is worrying about his next NFL head coaching job, sometimes you have to take one for the team to try an enact change and whatever happens, happens.

Washington Commanders sounds like the kind of name that would be a pre-defined video game expansion franchise. I don't like it. Will be easier to keep current colors than if they went with admirals I suppose.

As for the Flores lawsuit seems interesting. As far as lawsuits go, based on what I read it seems incredibly weak. It reads more as a publicity stunt.

I have zero doubts that organizations interview minority candidates solely for satisfying the Rooney Rule and the person interviewed isn't under serious consideration. Its why I hate the rule.
But its very hard to prove any one instance of this occurring. In almost every job you may schedule interviews with X number of people, get to one person and really like them and want to hire them, but you still finish the rest of your interviews. Everything will hinge on the discovery phase, but even if discovery unearths incriminating emails it may still be very hard to win.

Edit: After reading the full lawsuit it is definitely a publicity stunt, but not in the usual negative connotation way. I don't think it was filed with any serious intention of going all the way through courts but instead to give the NFL bad press (deservedly so) so that they "voluntarily" adopt policies to promote diversity.

From what little we've seen I like the stars. So we got that going for us at least. I hope the rest of the uniforms don't look horrible.

This whole process has been bad. They wanted fan input but ignored the fans. Dan knew what he was going to pick. He just led us on for two years and picked Commanders ugh. Redwolves was popular but I didn't like that one either thank god we didn't go with that but the whole Nwo wolfpac theme or whatever a lot of the people wanted for Redwolves was cool them playing that song before games woulda been dope.

I wish they would have gone with Warriors ditched the Native American theme and went for a Spartan theme with the spear logo.

It's worth noting that Stephen Ross is an investor in a sports betting platform Action Network.

If there's any truth to the allegation that he offered to pay Brian Flores to lose games, that's... that's bad.

It’ll be wild if Ross forced out and Snyder continues to survive in this league.

On the Washington Football Team rebrand:

The upper-class male-only social caste in the popular Hulu television series and book "The Handmaid's Tale" - a story about a dystopian future America where women have no civil rights - are in fact referred to as "Commanders".

Obviously a television show commonly seen in pop culture is just a work of fiction, but one can probably draw their own conclusions as to why that particular allusion might be a problematic association for this specific rebranding effort.
