It's on the owners. Not wanting to spent that money on a top coach. Last two coaches have been a position coach and a coach from the Big East.

The Bucs are two plays away from a 2-1 record.

Way too soon to give up on Freeman, especially for the guy who couldn't complete 60% of his passes in the ACC.

I do put blame on Schiano. I put it on the owners and QB also.

As someone else said, you don't hire a rookie head coach in college to coach a team ready to win now. That's just dumb. They aren't superbowl contenders, but they should definitely be competing for the division.

Schiano needs to stop yelling at grown *** men like they're little kids. Especially since he's done squat in the league.

He also shouldn't be going after Freeman when Freeman has actually won games in the league.

Freeman is making the same mistakes he made last year, the year before, and his rookie year. They give him a running game; Doug Martin. Receiving threat; Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. Yet, he still holds on to the ball too long, throws into coverage, refuses to scramble like he did the year they won ten games, and just makes baffling decisions.

Enough blame to go around. Freeman has shown he's not the guy in Tampa.

You can't say "2 plays away" from whatever.

Yeah it's not likely, but the Jets could have completed a hail mary at the end of the Bucs game even without the penalty. And the guy did commit the stupid penalty. That's a play in the game. You can't discount it because they probably would have won the game without it.

Freeman simply hasn't been very good the last 2+ years. Maybe Glennon won't be either, but at least he hasn't proven it yet and there's a glimmer of hope.

I hope Schiano knows that if benching the QB doesn't work, he's next.

I'm skeptical of any coach that thinks making Darrelle Revis play zone is a good idea.

And likely a better college job than Rutgers since he's "a former NFL coach".

So did Eli Manning and Colin Kaepernick. QBs go through rough stretches.

Freeman is also something like 2nd or 3rd in the NFL in downfield attempts. His completion % will naturally suffer.

I think this is the first time I've ever commented about Josh Freeman on these boards.

Freeman hasn't been good, but it's a little early in the season to be yanking the starting QB for the 3rd round pick who put up mediocre numbers in the ACC.

I think just about everyone here will acknowledge that.

However, that QB is not Mike Glennon.

I can say that because it shows the very fine line between having a winning record and a team basically mailing it in for the season.

This is the basically the "We want Bridgewater" move, coupled with what Bucs' team sources are saying. Might be good long-term for the Bucs, but I thought Schiano wanted to stick around in the NFL.

Benching an established starter who has been an adequate NFL starting QB for the rookie 3rd round pick seems like the exact opposite of a "glimmer of hope" move, but whatever.

Except I wouldn't call Freeman an adequate NFL starter. Hell even if he was you pretty much know what you're getting with him, an inconsistent player with wild swings of play. Everyone craps on Mark Sanchez yet Freeman should be given more rope, when Sanchez has accomplished more in his career than Freeman has. Teams aren't going to be as patient with young QBs anymore, if you don't show something immediately teams are more than willing to move on to the next man up.

You don't know what Glennon can do in the NFL. A lot of things go into college stats - supporting cast, coaching, etc. So pointing to college results as reason for not giving Glennon a shot seems short sighted. If Tampa knew that Freeman wasn't the guy then why keep him in as starter? Yeah Schiano looks kinda bad in this but that doesn't change that Freeman hasn't been performing this season.
